I went to my local CVS and did some of these deals today, and bought 2 Cover Girl lipsticks, using 2 coupons, and the clerk told me I couldn’t use the second coupon because it said on it “only one coupon per product per purchase.” I said that’s what most coupons say, you can only use one coupon for each item you are buying… she insisted I couldn’t use it because I already had one other Cover Girl coupon. We went back and forth about it and finally I told her, “I don’t like to argue, but you’re not right about this. Is there someone else I can speak to?” She shrugged and said ok, she’d try scanning it and when it worked (which I knew it would…) she said, “Well, if the manager was here, SHE wouldn’t have let you use it.” Has anyone had any experiences like that recently? I have never encountered this woman before, but she was very convinced she was right. I’m trying to figure out how to shop there only when she’s not working.
I have run into that issue before. And it’s not just CVS, but pretty much every store I’ve been told that. Walgreens used to be the worst for me, so much that I stopped shopping there for a while. Could be due to lack of cashier/manager training to understand the terminology. One thing that I read, and used several times when cashiers tried to pull the one per purchase, is to take each item and put a coupon on top and say this is a purchase, this is a purchase, this is a purchase and circle my hand over the top of everything and say this is a transaction. None of the coupons I’m using are limited to 1 per transaction. One per purchase means that you -the cashier-, cannot scan one coupon for my multiple items. If I’m buying 4 items and you scan 1 coupon 4 times, the store will not get reimbursed b/c they’d be short 3 coupons.
That usually gets the lightbulb to go off.
