Our Blanket Obsession (Plus - Shop 5 of Our Favorites!)

Hot off the heels of summer, my addiction to cozy, snuggly, comfy blankets is flaring up. I’m serious, guys — I absolutely love buying new blankets. 😬 My house has blankets scattered everywhere, and it’s not even that cold yet. But what can I say. I. AM. OBSESSED. My daughter may share in my obsession, too. 😉

I recently received my order of blankets (yup, plural) from Target when they had their 30% off blankets promotion, because why buy just one comfy blanket when you can buy three or four, right?! ☺️

Thankfully, I’m not alone in my intense love for blankets — my team shares in this same strange addiction.

“I, too, have a serious blanket ADDICTION. If there was a rehab for people addicted to blankets, I would be there. They just make my house feel so cozy (even when it’s 90 out!) and make the cutest decor. My husband sometimes complains, but then I see him cuddled up with one and I know he secretly likes my addition.” — Amber

To help you become one with us in our blanket obsession, we’ve rounded up our top FIVE favorite blankets for your snuggling enjoyment. 😍

1. Amazon Bedsure Sherpa Blankets

our favorite blankets we have an obsession and shop for — amazon bedsure sherpa blanketSmooth and soft on one side, fuzzy and warm on the other — what more could you want from this blanket?! We’ve seen these for as low as $14.39, so not only do you get one of the most comfortable blankets, you get a hot deal, too!

“It literally puts me in a nap trance on Sunday afternoons. So cozy. I’ve washed it several times and it is still super soft. I have the bigger size.” — Michelle

“I agree on the sherpa ones! So comfy, soft, and warm. Everyone always fights over them! They look pretty and hold up well, too!” — Lina

2. Vera Bradley Throw Blankets

This oversized micro-fleece throw comes in 10 different fun patterns. They’re a little pricier, but we’ve seen them marked down as low as $27.56 — such an awesome price for an adorable blanket. These would make great gifts for kids, teens, and young adults!

“Vera Bradley blankets are AWESOME! The ones from the outlet aren’t quite as good as the ones from the main site, but I love them.” — Paige

3. Eddie Bauer Down and Fleece Throws

our favorite blankets we have an obsession and shop for — eddie bauer sherpa blanketTake the weight of a comforter and the softness of fleece and combine it into one blanket… that’s what you get with these oversized blankets from Eddie Bauer. It’s another pricey option (retailing full price at $129), but last November we scored them for half off at $64.50! Be on the lookout for another promo like this from Eddie Bauer during the holiday season as these make awesome Christmas gifts!

“One year I bought one of these blankets for my husband, then someone gave me one for Christmas, then EVERYONE had to have one. They are so well made — my husband’s blanket is probably 6 years old!” — Paige

“I love the Eddie Bauer blanket that I got from Collin last year! I take that to outdoor sports ❤️ so warm and cuddly” — Lina

4. Sam’s Club / Costco Blankets

While you’re stocking up on bulk buys at warehouse stores, check out their selection of throw blankets. They’ve been known to carry plush, sherpa, and even discounted Eddie Bauer throws. Their inventory varies but the prices can’t be beaten!

“I’ve seen Costco have some really good blankets on sale for $9.99. They’re typically in-store only, but it’s worth the trip!” — Michelle

“I love the big fuzzy ones from Sam’s club. They’re so snuggly!” — Amber

5. Kohl’s The Big One Blankets

collin with the big one blankets from kohl'sThe Big One throw blankets from Kohl’s are the creme-de-la-creme when it comes to blankets. First of all, they’re incredibly soft — you’ll feel instantly cozy the minute you touch it.

Second, they come in a ton of colors and patterns (making our blanket addiction even stronger 😂). Finally, you can regularly find them for as low as $10 when you combine sale prices with promo codes, and we all know Kohl’s frequently has sales. Did we mention these blankets have a 4.7 star rating with over 2,700 reviews?!

“My kids are obsessed with The Big One plush blankets! Actually, my 3.5-year-old son has had his same one since he was a baby. These blankets hold up so well! BUT… he actually chewed all of the corners so much (I don’t know if that is normal, but if it is not, please disregard I mentioned it) that my husband just took him to Kohl’s the other day to pick a new blanket. We’re currently in the process of making the other one disappear!” — Erica

    Monte & Jardin
Got it at Costco for under $20, wish I had bought 4! Haven’t seen them again. 😢

  2. Kristin M.

I too have an obsession with blankets! Which is somewhat strange since I live in California and we don’t really have much of a winter lol I just bought one of the Sherpa throws on sale at Costco for 9.99 last week. My favorite blanket has to be my kind size Big One blanket from Kohls I bought last Black Friday. It’s the perfect blanket for cozying up on the couch with my kiddo for movie night. I have a bunch of the regular Big One throws and love them but the king size is worth the jump in price if you can find a good sale. I think it was 19.99 for Black Friday last year.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, I agree – The Big One throws are the BEST, and I love how you can often score great buys on them! 😍

    • Julia

Do you feel like the Sherpa throws from Costco that are $9.99 hold up well? I was wondering if the fuzzy inside washes well or if things cling to it?

      • heather

I bought one last year for my daughter for Christmas, and it still looks awesome. I totally think they hold up well.

      • Sophie

We bought two of them and have had them awhile and wash often and they really don’t shed at all. The sherpa lining stays relatively fluffy too and doesnt clump, which is awesome.

  3. ~Jenn~

I have to trim my blanket addiction regularly! Every year I go through ALL the blankets and then take the “slightly over-loved” blankets to the local No Kill shelter in a town about 30 minutes away. It’s a perfect time to take all the free animal supply samples you post about too!
I just love throws! When I first met my fiancé the first thing I did was buy 2 blankets for everyone in the house. 1 fleece throw (matching their personality) and then one great knitted fleece style blanket for them to lay on their beds….again personality matching.
    It’s just too much fun!

    • Melissa

      Thoughtful idea!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I love that you donate the “slightly over-loved” blankets ❤️ AND I also love the idea of matching blankets to personalities! FUN! 🙌

    • Janie

      very thoughtful!

  4. Marie

I’m glad my family is not alone in our blanket obsession! lol. We also have to have just as many pillows to go along with all our cozy blankets tho!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      lol Love it! 😉

    • Jen

OMGOSH Marie, our family too girl!! I honestly thought I was the only one!! My poor BF thinks I’m crazy so I had to show him this article..!! Thank You Hip2Save team. I can’t say enough good things about your team Collin!!
My favorite blanket right now has to be the blush UGG blanket I found at Marshals a couple months ago on clearance for 70% off! It lays across our new couch in front of the fireplace. Can’t wait to use it sometime next month when we start to get the cool Indiana fall weather!! Gonna have to try out the Eddie B blanket you posted next, it looks perfect for my sons high school football games!!

  5. Jo

I love a good blanket, and while I love Kohl’s blankets because they have some of the cutest patterns, it is such a pain in the tush to find one that washes well! Their quality control has gone down the drain these past few years. I have literally bought multiple blankets of the same pattern just to see which one will wash without ‘pilling’. Last Christmas I bought three of each one I wanted, and each time two of the three had fluff balls all over it by the time it was washed and dried. So frustrating and disappointing!

    • Just passing through

Oh no! I haven’t had any pilling yet. I wash in gentle ( no fabric softener) and dry on low 3-4 blankets. I make sure to check drying often cuz one of my tags is sorta melted. I also don’t let my husband launder them. He washes and dries everything the same

    • Shannon

If you wash fleece and flannel in cold water gentle cycle and dry on lowest setting or air dry if possible it keeps them softer. Heat and fleece don’t go well together.

  6. Dollbaby's mom

No blankets for me, just glasses and cups. I really love the ones with saying on them lol.

  7. Audrey

I love the Berkshire blankets from Macy’s. Super soft and cozy blankets for your bed. Wonderful!

  8. Verline A Ferris

My favorite is an electric throw I got at Target. It keeps my bed sheets warm for restless legs. I place it across the bottom of my bed.

  9. Cami

Minky Couture is my favorite blanket. Not cheap — but now, none of these look soft enough! Sometimes you can get up to 50% off if you follow them on Facebook or Instagram.

  10. Brittany

Me too!! I LOVE blankets. My husband got me one for Valentine’s day from a gas station on our way back from a trip… lol…I am slightly obsessed. It’s a wonderful soft throw. I was so excited! 😊

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

lol I love that you love your gas station throw! 🙌 Next time we take a road trip, I’ll be keeping my eye peeled for throws at our gas station stops. 😉

  11. Nicole221

I too have a blanket obsession! Remember when you find that you have to many you donate to your local vet or pet shelters. The animals love them too 😀

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

I absolutely LOVE this idea. ❤️ Thank you!

    • Marie

Hi Nicole! Another great idea is to put them on Freecycle or Craigslist. We have a blanket obsession in our house, but also foster very young kittens. We pass our pre-loved blankets down to our fur babies, but we can go through an incredible amount of blankets in the course of the week (15-20 is not uncommon as they learn to eat, potty train, etc), so having extras is really handy! Plus, they love to knead and suckle on them since they are often separated from their mother before they naturally should be.

Sorry for the long post, but THANK YOU to all those that donate their cuddly blankets to the pets that haven’t yet found their forever home or are too young to adopt out!!

      • *Angela-Miles*

We foster too! I always hate when the poor little kittens are taken away from the momma too early. Makes me sad for them. But the last five litters we have fostered were brought in with mommy 🙂 . So sweet. I LOVE cats

  12. caseye98

The Kohls soft plush are my absolute favorite! Totally love them. We keep three in our van to use when we go into the movie theaters too!

    • heather

I have a dedicated movie theater blanket too!

  13. Susan

YES! The more the merrier, Colin!!!
The BIG ONES throws and full size are super soft and cuddly. BJs makes a nice one as well. Then there are the quilts and on and on. The Better Homes & Gardens throws at Walmart are very soft, just a thinner version. All good 🛏🛏🛏

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      I couldn’t agree more! 😍

  14. Kelista

I am extremely addicted to the super soft throws that are also electric! Right now, since it is starting to get cool, I love sleeping on top of the flat sheet wrapped up in my electric throw. Later, that throw will move downstairs and I will get the electric mattress pad and electric blanket turned on high. Michigan winter’s can get brutal!!

  15. Kellie

The Pure Bliss Quilted Sofa Comforter from Brookstone is the most amazing thing ever! It has a foot pocket and it’s reversible! The fabric is sooo soft and there’s some weight to it so it’s really comforting. Washes up beautifully!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Ohhhh… that sounds AMAZING! Thanks for the recommendation!

  16. Marie

My children and I are all blanket thieves. Not to say that we take them from stores without paying for them. We just take them from each other. My youngest son is the worst, one day you have a nice blanket the next your finding it on his bed. Our favorites are from Bebe Bella they have a nice weight and are super soft. The only problem is that as soon as the cat sees a blanket he’s in your lap for the rest of the evening.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

OH YES, I can so relate to blanket thieves – I have 4 in my house! lol 😉

  17. Susan Crawford

I bought an $150.00 throw for $18.00 at Macy’s after Christmas. This is the most extravagant thing I have ever done. My cat loves it. It is so warm and I put it on the clothes line to give it an airing out and it is just like new. I could not spend full price for it and the clearance price was perfect. I did buy a Macy’s brand blanket for $15.00 regularly $80.00 and that is on the bed now. It is perfect for the fall weather. Otherwise we just use comforters.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

WOW!! What awesome blanket deals you scored! 👏

  18. Danielle

My favorite blanket obsession is Pendleton Blankets. I save up for months to get one. I love the designs, and they are so warm.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Thanks for the recommendation. I’ve not heard of these before, so I’ll have to check them out!

    • JES

I have one and love it! They are a little on the pricey side, but they are very well made.

      • Danielle

They are Pricey, but I have learned a couple tricks. I only buy from the outlet store, and I use the outlet mall VIP coupons. That automatically gives me a 20% discount off of any non sale purchases purchases of $100 or more. Pendleton locations have a stamp card program. Every 100 spent, earns a stamp, every 10 stamps earn a $50.00 gift card. If I am planning on spending money at Pendleton, I know I am going to spend at least $100 to earn a stamp. Online orders don’t count towards this. If I see something that I like online, I will call up the store I frequent and ask if they have it in stock, if they don’t they will try to find it for me at another store. I save up the Gift Cards to use towards a new blanket. This was perfect last year. They had a Spiderman Blanket online at Christmas time for $130, I called the store, and found out that in a different store, they had them for $99.00, and they would accept the 20% off discount. So my son received a nice Pendleton Spiderman blanket that cost me $80.00. He also got a Harry Potter Slytherin one too. These blankets will last generations.

  19. Jennifer

You definitely sold me on The Big One blankets! I had to have the unicorn pattern. Very soft! I bought one last week with a gift card. 😉 Looking forward to the cooler weather.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

YES – the unicorn pattern is so fun! Had to have one! 🦄

  20. kaitlinsarah1121

If you have a local “Paper store”/Hallmark store they have great ones! Plush on one side and Sherpa on the other. Usually marked down to $20 around the holidays

  21. Sue

My favorite blankets are 100% percent organic cotton blankets. They are so warm and soft.

  22. Meg

Saranoni! These are expensive but so worth it. They are so soft and warm.

    • Brenda

      Love Saranoni as well!

    • coupon6167

Was coming here to suggest this as well!

  23. Miranda L

I love the CuddlDuds blankets from Kohl’s! I have purchased two times (usually around Thanksgiving) when you have posted them here. I’ll probably be buying another one this year!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Yes, I love those too! 😍

    • Brenda

My cuddle duds comforter from kohls is my favorit too, I have a ton of blankets and that by far is the softest.

  24. Sarah Pitzer

We LOVE LOVE LOVE the Eddie Bauer ones with the furry one-side and cool other side – just perfect for our family! 🙂

  25. Tricey Scott

I don’t have a blanket obsession but I do have a need for blankets and throws for gift baskets for the elderly in my neighborhood. So if anyone can point me in the direction of some good ones under $10 that would be most helpful. At the moment I’m doing this by myself so very limited budget. Thanks in advance for the info 😊

    • Just passing through

Sears has st. Nicolas brand for like $3.99 but they are thinner and probably a smaller throw.
Walmart has some $4? Throws but again thin and small.
The big one throws are best during Black Friday online cuz you also get Kohl’s cash and I think there’s a coupon that overlaps. So they’re about $6 or $7.
I also wonder about buying the same soft material at Joann’s, cutting it and fold over/ sew the edges. The construction of the big one throws seems to be the same.

      • Tricey Scott

        Thanks

    • Trin

Actually some of the better homes and garden throws from walmart are amazing. I bought several for $8 each last year around Christmas and they are the family favorites and have washed so well. Totally surprised me!

      • j

if lucky some of those have a free 6.00 rebate or year magazine subscription

  26. lori

Anybody have a favorite stadium blanket they love for those wintry school sporting events?? The wind/snow/rain can be brutal here in upstate NY. thank you

  27. Cara

I love a good blanket and I’ve been scoping Costco for new ones. I have a small basket of blankets under my desk at work since we’re not allowed to have space heaters. As soon as the temperature dropped below 70, I tossed the blankets in the washer with some suavitel and I have been in blanket bliss ever since, lol.

  28. Chrissy

I too have a blanket obsession. I think I keep Kohl’s in business every year buying new blankets and throws… especially on Black Friday. I am all about comfort and staying warm. In fact, I stopped at Home Goods this weekend and bought another blanket. I love these soft blankets and Sherpa (Cuddl Duds) throws.

When I buy new ones, my older ones go in my dogs crate for him to lay on. He loves to nap in there especially with these fuzzy blankets. Or he tries to steal mine on the couch.

  29. Valerie

Blanket obsessed here – Vera Bradley are my favorite!!

  30. Cherryluva

Same! BUT I live in an apartment, anyone have storage ideas?

    • ashleynwagner

I got a big sturdy wire basket from Home Goods. I kept by the front door to throw shoes into and to tidy up quickly a pile of blankets would go on top. It’s now just for blankets but that worked for 3 years in an apartment.

    • elaine

You can pick up a wire or wicker round basket to store them in and it easily sits on your floor. Just roll them up 🙂

  31. JenB

BERKSHIRE BLANKETS! But not just any, the recent $10 ones from Macys were not the same at all. I like the velvet soft reverse to fluffie. Looks like some recent ones have bad quality control. My mom bought me one after I fell in love with hers.

  32. JenB

  33. FSUGAL

Living in FL we don’t break out blankets until after Christmas, but the Vera Bradley blankets are super soft, don’t pill when washed, and are a very nice weight to take the chill off. Great patterns and a wonderful gift for all the ladies in your life. I do like the Cuddl Duds at Kohls, but even better….. the Cuddle Dud sheet sets! I gave each of my teen kiddos a set for Christmas last year and they absolutely loved them. When the weather warmed back up it was a challenge for them to peel them off their beds and give them up for the season. LOL!

    • Cw

Yes, our whole 3 days a year after Dec. it gets under 50 degrees in FL – lol.

  34. Danielle

Yhese blankets are spendy. The wool and material is from Oregon. The blankets will last generations. my son has 3, and I am up to 8 or 9.

  35. Theresa

I love love love my blanket I bought a few weeks ago at Sam’s! It’s called “Shaggy Throw.” They caught my eye because there’s a rainbow pattern, and I’m obsessed with all things rainbow for our rainbow baby. Then I felt it and had to have one, errrr, maybe two! 😬
Fast forward a few weeks, the weather is getting chilly, and my husband and kids keep stealing my new blanket! So I just ordered three more tonight so we can each have our own. Now I really need to weed out some old blankets to donate!

  36. Lorrie

I love blankets, throws, sheets, pillows, towels. if it goes in a linen closet then it’s my obsession! BTW we donate our old throws and towels to our local non kill animal shelter.

  37. Kay

My fav blanket is the one our realtor gave us as a housewarming gift. It has our last name on it, so it’s customized. I don’t know the brand. It’s so soft n sturdy. My second fav is a blanket my friend made for us as wedding gift.
Collin, you buy a lot of stuff because you’re great at deals. But what do you do with all your stuff?

  38. Shelly

I too have a blanket obsession Collin. Costco and Kohl’s have the best! I have 4 containers for all season!

  39. Sandra Grund Pallotto

    Thoughts on weighted blankwts

  40. Laura L

I do too!!!! My favorite blanket is a vellux blanket! It feels like crushed velvet and is so soft. My daughter also absolutely loves vellux blankets!!!

  41. H

I haven’t been able to find Collin’s favorite Sorel Slippers in stock in my size on amazon 🙁
Anyone have amazing slipper reviews? Please share!!

  42. Crystal

Big One throw blankets will be on sale for 9.99 starting Sept 26 during the lowest prices of the season sale plus $5 Kohl’s cash for every $25 purchase…just got the flyer today

    • Mommaoftwogirls

Thank you for sharing! I have some Kohl’s cash I need to use and we love our blankets!

  43. Amanda

I’m so glad to know I am not alone! I cannot pass up a good blanket! I just bought a super soft Snoopy throw at TJ Maxx. I also like to keep light weight blankets in the car and Wal-Mart has fleece throws under $5 in store.

  44. *Angela-Miles*

I like blankets and have several to lounge in but I’m more of pillow person lol. I’m always collecting throw pillows of all seasons and designs.
This is my favorite throw blanket. I have the cat and horse design both. Super soft sherpa and washes well. The black and white with a pop of color really stands out!
    https://www.walmart.com/ip/Horse-Photo-Real-Reversible-Velvet-and-Sherpa-Throw-Blanket/237033304

I got these sherpa blankets on clearance at Walmart for $8 🙂 . I do buy alot of cheap regular priced $4 or $5 blankets to donate as I don’t give mine up once I’m attached Lol 😉 ….we foster kitty cats ever couple months and I’m always buying them cheaper towels and blankets to use, that are still soft.

  45. AndreaB

    https://www.llbean.com/llb/shop/113434?page=wicked-plush-throw

I bought a couple of these blankets last year for Christmas and we all fight over them. They are so soft. I got them when they were on sale I think they were $25 each and they were also offering a $10.00 gift card with purchases of $25 or more. Right now they are offering $10 gift card for future purchases on $50/more and free shipping on $50/more too.

  46. Kingc

Barefoot dreams!!! I love everything barefoot. 🙂

  47. Brittani

Oh my, I thought I was the only one with an unhealthy obsession with blankets! Mugs too 🙈

    • JES

Me too! I love a good coffee mug! And I don’t even drink coffee!

  48. AmyH

I live for those 3 days a year in South Florida!

  49. Tina

I haven’t seen anyone mention my favorite… it’s from Pottery Barn and it has Sherpa on one side and cable knit cotton on the other side. I started with one, then got one for hubby since he stole mine all the time. Then my sister in law fell in love on a visit and got herself a couple from eBay. Hen I found myself a couple more on eBay! Now we have four! They are so warm!
