Have a box of Grape-Nuts cereal in the pantry?

Did you know that you can make an excellent custard-like pudding with crunchy Grape-Nuts?! Serve up this classic dish as a decadent dessert or even as a yummy breakfast. I think this would be a great addition to any holiday or special occasion brunch, too! YUM.

I grew up eating Grape-Nuts pudding (it was one of my favorite treats!), so it has a special place in my heart and reminds me of my childhood. 😍 I’m thinkin’ it may not sound that appetizing to some of you, but seriously, don’t knock it until you try it. 🙌

Such a simple and easy to make idea!

Essentially, this method includes whisking all ingredients together including milk, cream, vanilla extract, eggs, and spices (cinnamon and nutmeg). Pour all of it into a 2-quart casserole dish with Grape-Nuts cereal and bake for a little over an hour until the mixture becomes firm.

You’ll want to place your casserole dish inside a larger roasting pan, then fill the roasting pan with water about halfway before baking.

P.S I’m still loving my vintage inspired Cornflower Corningware! So fun.

Classic Grape-Nuts Pudding Ingredients


Classic Grape-Nuts Pudding

Make creamy vanilla custard with Grape-Nuts cereal as a delicious breakfast or dessert.

Serves: 6-8

Cook Time: 75 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 cup Grape-Nuts cereal
  • 3 cups milk
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla
  • 4 large eggs, beaten
  • 2/3 cup granulated sugar
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon

Directions

  • Step 1:

    Pre-heat oven to 350 degrees, and grease a casserole dish with butter.

  • Step 2:

    Soak Grape-Nuts cereal in hot water to soften for about ten minutes. Drain water.

  • Step 3:

    In a mixing bowl, whisk together milk, cream, vanilla, eggs, sugar, cinnamon, and nutmeg.

  • Step 4:

    Pour mixture into the casserole dish along with the cereal. Mix to evenly distribute the cereal.

  • Step 5:

    Set casserole dish in a roasting pan filled halfway with water. Bake for about 60-75 minutes until custard is firm all the way through. (It took closer to 75 minutes in my oven.)

  • Step 6:

    Once firm, remove from oven and let cool. Serve warm or cold. Leftovers must be kept covered and refrigerated for no longer than 3 days.

So creamy and rich!

OK, guys, I’m here to report this custard is delish! You can serve it up warm or cold – it’s up to your preference. You can also top it with whipped cream, fruit, or additional Grape-Nuts for some crunch. The texture reminds me of yummy Flan, and I love how the grape nuts become soft and fit in nicely with the custard.

I actually had never heard of Grape-Nuts pudding until Collin shared with me that it was one of her childhood faves. I only vaguely remember my parents making us eat this cold cereal in the 80s and it didn’t go well. HA! I think you’ll enjoy this yummy baked cereal vanilla pudding!
