We have Freetime Unlimited & I do think it’s worth it… but if you don’t like the cost, you can use FreeTime with your own apps (books and videos too) & still set time limits. There are tons of free apps, especially with the Underground section. And watch for free apps of the day.
My kids use their Kindles with Freetime Unlimited on our car trips all the time. You just have to download whatever apps or books you want before leaving. After downloading, most of the apps don’t require WiFi to play them. I think you can download videos as well, but we haven’t tried that.
I am not a new member but I was still able to purchase it for $2.99. I just received an email that they are refunding me the difference.

My kids are obsessed with the kids YouTube app. Is this a good replacement for that because I’m thinking about making that app disappear lol
They can still look at kid appropriate YouTube content, so you can’t escape it lol. Although you can turn that option & web browser off I believe.
