dd perks data breach – dunkin' coffee cups

Do you have a DD Perks account?

If so, you may want to change your password ASAP. That’s because Dunkin’ (formerly known as Dunkin’ Donuts) customers who have a DD Perks account may have had their personal information – including names and email addresses – stolen during an initial data breach that Dunkin’ learned about on October 31st.

Dunkin' name change

It appears that the hackers were able to log into some Dunkin’ DD Perks customer accounts and got access to the information through other companies’ security breaches. In addition to retrieving names and email addresses, they also may have had access to account numbers and the DD Perks QR code (used to pay for orders).

To be on the safe side, it is recommended that you change your DD Perks account password information. If you have questions about this data breach, you can contact Dunkin’ at 800-447-0013 for more information.

Hubby had his acct taken over last year. They loaded $$ to the card and then used it at a store in NY. They used his rewards too. Dunkin did refund our $$ but it was a pain. We don’t have any cards saved to anything anymore. Too many data breaches.

Oh bummer! SO sorry to hear about that! Super glad you were finally able to get your money back!

They did a forced password reset for all potentially affected accounts. If you are able to log in with your existing password, then your account likely wasn’t affected.

Thanks for the feedback, Sara! I’ll be sure to pass that along!

I think I’m more upset about the name change than the data breach. 😂

    • Sara

Same here. I refuse to use the shortened name.

This is a bummer for sure but more shocking…when did they shorten their name to just Dunkin? I didn’t know that. What’s next…they going to shorten it to just a symbol? It’ll be all purple rain with a coffee cup.

The Dunkin’ Donuts news release linked to in this post is from 9/25/18.

    I changed my password anyway…
I don’t link any CC to my account ( here or Starbucks ). When I want to re-load $$$, I go to the store and pay in cash.

I don’t link credit cards to any restaurant accounts either.

I would reload my DD card with cash if they hadn’t closed all three locations in Baton Rouge last year. I still have $12.68 left on my card. I won’t get a chance to use some of it until February when I go out of my way to MCO the day before a cruise. I won’t be able to visit again until September 2019. I am going to lose all of my points due to inactivity, even though the inactivity will not be my fault. I also won’t be able to use the birthday reward anymore.

I buy Starbucks gift cards from Sam’s Club for the discount or Albertsons for the points. I add them to my account and then transfer the balance to my main card.

I am able to transfer the Sam’s Club e-cards with no problems. I can add a physical card from Albertsons to my account, but I have to call Starbucks and have them merge the balance with my main card. I have no idea what the difference is between transferring and merging.

Albertsons gives 2 points per dollar on gift cards. If you then buy something from a Starbucks in Albertsons, you will get an additional point per dollar. That is 3 points per dollar on Starbucks gift cards.

Can’t even figure out how to change my password. Not an easy account to navigate on their webpage.

I had a hard time finding it too, but eventually located it on this page: https://www.dunkindonuts.com/en/account/perks-rewards. Just select “Manage Profile” in the drop-down menu under “What would you like to do today?” Hope that helps!
