I loved the ones my grandma and aunt had but it was mesmerizing mostly because they made them in a ceramics studio. it wouldn’t be nearly as nostalgic or even fun to have replicas…It does make me wonder which of my 9 aunts has it in her house though! I sure hope someone kept it…

vmm – I have the tree my grandmother made me in the mid 70’s and the one I made for my mother in the mid 90’s at the ceramics studio. I may not decorate much for Christmas, but the ceramic tree is the one thing I always put out. I didn’t realize so many people did this back then.

    • Lisa

I have 12 homemade ones. I’m slightly addicted lol all original with the exception of some replacement pegs and stars. Mine range from 17- 48 inches tall. The originals sale for quite a bit on eBay, not that I’d ever part with mine lol

  2. MrsFelix1004

I found an original one on Etsy and replacement colored bulbs too

    • Sue

How much was it? My Mom has my Grandma’s I have always liked it.

      • MrsFelix1004

They vary depending on the seller

  3. Sara

Are any of these plug in? I don’t like the battery operated ones.

    • Tori Nelson

Looks like the larger one from Best Choice is the only one that is plug in

  4. Shelby

I got mine at Target and love it! The Target one has a 24 hour timer so it’s on for 4 hours and off for 20, then the next day back on at the same time 🙂 Perfection, decorations I don’t have to mess with! 🙂

  5. Bonnie

I have one too and love it. I think I picked it up a few years ago at a church sale. I did see them at CVS for $19.99.

  6. Kalynn

I bought one at Target, and then my mom told me she found her old one that she made (she stopped putting out – changed her decorations a bit), and I told her I wanted it!! So now I have the one she made from 30-40 years ago! Woo hoo! And she also gave me the original cardboard box my grandpa had constructed himself with perfect measurements and cushions that holds it perfectly, though it’s falling apart lol

    • Carrie C

How awesome!!!! 🙂 So sweet!! We bought one a few years back at a craft show from an elderly couple who make ceramics. Just love our tree!

  7. Kalynn

Didn’t I see an ornament version on here before, too? I think I want to get that! So cute! I would probably get the white one so you could see it better on the tree.

  8. Sue

Anyone know where to buy bubble lights?

  9. Denise G.

I have one for a few years since I saw my ex boyfriends mom had one. Just picked mine up at Kohls. It was $25 then with the 20% discount and Kohl’s cash I had to burn I got a terrific deal. Now I just have to figure out where to put it that my toddlers won’t break it.

    • Lindsey

I just looked online and didn’t see it on the kohls website 🙁 Did you buy online or in store?

      • Diana

Its the st. Nicholas square tabletop tree. Very cute- only $18 with 25% off coupon 🙂
Wish it was plug in though.

  10. Rachel

These are at Walmart for $8.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh wow! Thanks for sharing, Rachel! Did you find that in store? I don’t see that when searching online.

  11. Lisa

My grandma gifted hers to me before she died, knowing I’ve always lived it growing up.

  12. Deanna

I have a huge one my Aunt made in her ceramics class years ago. I love it. I just found replacement bulbs & birds at A.C. Moore.

  13. beth

Menards also had them for $25. They are battery operated.

  14. Yolanda A.

Michael’s has them as well, in green and white. I bought both, with packs of plastic replacement “bulbs” shaped like bows and doves.

  15. *Angela-Miles*

I didnt grow up in the 80s lol but my mom still has an old one that my grandma originally had. It’s missing a few of the pegs but still looks great!
I have had one similar to it, got two of them off QVC about 4 years ago. Not exactly like the originals but still looks cute, one of them sits on a shelve in our bathroom…adds a little Christmas to the bathroom 🙂 !

  16. Vicki

does anyone know where to get the replacement little plastic bulbs— I have the one my grandmother made me back in the 80’s but need more of the bulbs as they have gotten lost over the years

    • Yolanda A.

Michael’s has them. They have bulbs, bows, and doves!

  17. Jeanine

My Mom has a whole collection of trees of all different kinds that she displays at holiday time. Ceramic ones with and without bulbs, yes, but also many different kinds. One that’s wood (turned on a lathe), one I made with wee pine cones glued to a papiér maché cone, one my cousin made with seashells on a cone. She makes a little fanciful forest scene with little animals and faux snow. It’s adorable!

  18. Iluvh2s

My aunt who lives in Arizona gave me a ceramic light up cactus Christmas tree and it’s always been my favorite Christmas decor!!!

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Aww, How fun! ❤

  19. Ann Stokman

Love these. An easy fit in a smaller apartment.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yes! SO cute for smaller spaces! Thanks for taking a moment to comment!

  20. Lois

My friend Debbie still makes them. She’s always really busy during the holidays because people order them this time of the year instead of during the warmer months. I don’t know if she ships them or not but if anyone is interested in I can get her contact information and pass it on.

    • kelli gol

I would love her contact info please Lois! I have been looking for a larger white ceramic tree for my daughter for several years now without any luck. Her great grandparents recently passed away and theirs was “lost” somewhere along the way instead of making it’s way to her 🙁 Thanks in advance and hope you’re having a blessed holiday season!!

  21. Miranda

My grandmother’s tree had birds instead of bulbs. I wonder if you can still get those.

    • Amber (Hip2Save Sidekick)

How cute! I think the one my mom had when I was little had birds too! Thanks for sharing!

  22. Daniela

I got a small one, battery operated, from Michael’s last Friday during doorbusters for only $3. It’s super cute!

  23. Marcia

I was a sucker and went to eBay and bought true vintage ones. I bought a white and a green one.

I have loved them since I was little. My dads aunt had one.

  24. Bethany

We have 6 in our house! . The first three belonged to our grandparents, and the last three we picked up at estate sales and a ceramics store, so they are vintage 80s. Our kids each have one in their room, and Santa puts a gift under the tree in their room. Then the kids know which wrapping paper that Santa used on their gifts.
