For the first 10 years of marriage, Hubby and I attached this to our condo patio to store a key for in case we lock ourselves out. That said, we lived in garden style condos where multiple buildings face a center common area (read: lots of foot traffic). The patio faced out to the common area and not the street. We also lived in a low crime neighborhood. And we did not have nice things because we were young, so the only thing a burglar would get away with would be a 15 year old couch that came from a thrift store. That said, if this product was attached somewhere that was not highly visible (like a backyard at nighttime), I’m not sure what is to stop a criminal from sitting there for 15 minutes trying every possible combination. It’s really not that much work – There are 4 dials and each dial goes from 0 to 9. One could easily open this lock by trial and error in 15 minutes or less. Now that we have a house with stuff inside that is worth money, I would never place this product outside with my house key inside it. Just my own 2 cents.
There are 10,000 possible combinations for a 4 digit lock…
Yes, and you can work your way from 0000 to 9999 sequentially. Just a flick of your thumb is all that is required to go from one number to another. You can go from 0000 to 9999 in no time (or, 15 minutes like I said). This isn’t a dial lock like you see on school lockers where you spin a number to the right, spin the next to the left but pass the first number, and spin to the right for the third number. That takes a lot of effort to try each combination. But this product has literally 4 dials that move independently of one another. Again, just my two cents based on personal experience.
Not sure if it is true or not, but it appears this lock can easily be picked by almost anyone. A lot of one star feedback on Amazon.
