I just tried their Jasmine Tea deodorant this week and I love it! I’m super stoked to hit up Costco for the Rose & Vanilla.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh awesome! Hope you love the Rose & Vanilla too!

  2. kayti

I loved the smell of this! But it has baking soda so it burned me like no other!

    • Christina

They have a sensitive formula line(no baking soda) , it has several scents but last time I looked charcoal magnesium wasn’t included in the line. It’s wierd because I have reacted to baking soda in the past and only using the sensitive formula, but I tried charcoal magnesium and nothing happened.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh bummer! SO sorry to hear that, Kayti!

    • Debby

I have used Schmidt’s for years…. I received a sample of the jasmine deodorant with my Birchbox a few months ago. The smell is amazing!! But shortly after my armpits started itching like crazy…. and at a point my underarms were so red and blistered the only relief was cortisone 😬

I have tried the bergamot & lime… the ceaderwood (men’s)…. same results. They changed something in their ingredients and I can no longer use this line. it’s either the magnesium or the baking soda…Schmidt’s thought it could be the fragrance. I contacted them because the red welts & burning itchy skin took weeks to go away… and I wanted them to be aware of the crazy strong reaction I had to it. They offered to replace everything ,but I graciously declined because I didn’t want to go through the issue again 😂.

So just a little heads up…it may not happen to you… but just be aware if you find yourself really itchy.. I would stop using it and see if your having a reaction to it. Side note- their charcoal toothpaste is awesome!
      😀

Yes! I really wanted to like this. I loved the scent, but yikes! I thought my armpits just needed to get used to it… nope. I tried using some apple cider vinegar before applying as suggested on a review. It helped some but still had bumps. I switched back to Tom’s with no problems.

      • C

For me it stained my armpits and was a little itchy as well. Used the lemon scented one.

  3. Casey Meyers

I didn’t like it, felt like sandpaper on my pits. Anyone else think it felt ruff?

    • Mirela

This was the charcoal kind? I got it too and it’s kinda grainy….does anybody know if all are like this? It smells wonderfully and works the same but it’s grainy and if you press a bit hard it will stay on your skin in large chunks

      • Kelly T

The pineapple one is really soft I have found.

        • Kelly Tinnin

Also the Jasmine Tea one isn’t as soft, but not grainy

      • Christina

I only used charcoal magnesium that was grainy, but my 1st 2 weren’t.

    • Chelsey (Hip Sidekick)

I use a natural deodorant and it has the grainy texture but if you hold it under your armpit for a few seconds it helps to heat it up and makes it feel less grainy. Hope that helps!

    • Tatyana

if read instructions, it says to hold it on your skin for a little to let it melt, and then slowly amply the rest 🙂
you have to be patient applying this deodorant

  4. Suzanne

I found it to be very pasty and clumpy. I loved the concept, but unfortunately I wouldn’t buy it again.

  5. Maggie

This was a sample in a Target Beauty Box a while back. For anyone who doesn’t like the texture of this, try Tom’s of Maine deo. stick. It’s gel-like, and works very well!

  6. ashley

I loved the rose vanilla, but after a few weeks of using I itch like crazy. I ended up switching to Lume (the deodorant with the crazy Facebook ad), and I love it. If you’re sensitive to baking soda, Lume is a wonderful alternative, and very effective and safe for odor control in multiple areas. I promise I don’t work for them, just thrilled to find a product that works.

    • Kristie

      I love Lume!!!!

  7. Jessica

I really, really love this deodorant! I switched from Degree Ultra Clear to Schmidt’s and have only good things to say about it.

  8. rebecca

for those here who loved it, and those who said it was grainy and scratchy, it would be helpful to add to your post which variety you tried. i am wondering if one kind is much more likeable than the other?
i really appreciate the feedback on this! i was trying to decide if i wanted to try it. thanks!

    • Jackie

There’s a few new varities for sensitive skin you may want to check out that use magnesium instead of baking soda (neither of these) or I would suggest the charcoal one above because it uses both magnesium and baking soda. The rose and the other non-sensitive skin ones use baking soda only and are grainier.

    • Julie

I have tried the rose and vanilla, the lavender, and the lime. I love them all. No texture issues for me, and no burning at all, even after I shave. My son has tried regular men’s deodorants, and other brands of natural ones, and they all leave him with a burning rash. He loves the lime. The rose vanilla smells good, but it’s a little on the stronger side for me, so I prefer the lavender one. I also have the pineapple one for sensitive skin. It smells nothing like its name would indicate, but I do love the scent. It’s easier to apply, but I have found that I end up with BO if I do any type of swearing whatsoever. I like to wear it after I shower at night in the summer. I just bought the magnesium 3-pack from Costco but haven’t used it yet. Keep in mind that these are natural deodorants and will not be as easy to apply as ones that aren’t natural. It even tells you that on the package.

    • Janie

Rebecca, I have tried the bergamot and lime and that one burned my armpits after three days. I have been using the rose and vanilla for a month without any issues. I have not tried any other varieties. I hope this helps.

    • Natalya

I bought rose+vanilla, bergamot+lime, cedarwood+juniper. I liked the smell but that’s all I like about them now. They stained my clothes. I’m not sure if all or just cedarwood-juniper… It’s more like oil type stains…

  9. Dorothy

I love the unscented one that contains magnesium hydroxide. The other version with baking soda as the main ingredient does not work for me. Also, the texture feels smooth to me. This is my go to deodorant now. Other natural ones have not worked well for me.

    • m

I also had great success with the unscented one. It is my go to. No body odor for me or for my teen unlike others that we have tried in the natural deodorants. Don’t really notice any grainy feeling or any irritation.

  10. Mrs. G

I love this kind, but I buy the sensitive kind!

    • Rebecca

I’m with Mrs G- I tried the non sensitive variety and within a few weeks my armpits were on fire due to the baking soda. I now use the sensitive type (scent jasmine tea) and I LOVE IT. Disclaimer, I don’t work out- but it lasts all day for me.

  11. s

Can you use this to workout? Does it keep you from stinking? It’s deodorant so you still sweat, right?

    • Katie

I use it when I work out. If you’re switching from a traditional antiperspirant/deodorant then expect for the first few days to kinda stink. Your body is finally doing what’s supposed to be doing to regulate your body temperature. Now when I sweat, it’s not a stinky as when I was using a traditional deodorant. The strong B.O. smell I got with traditional deodorant was caused by the interaction of the deodorant and my body’s sweat. With the natural deodorant, I don’t interact and it doesn’t stink nearly as much. Hope this helps.

  12. Kate

I tried the bergamot lime 3 pack from Costco that they had this summer. It is very rough and grainy. I switched to Native and it glides on and works really well. It’s a little pricey, but my body and health are worth it!

  13. Janet

The absolute best is Native deodorant. You can now find it at target, but I get it on a subscription basis from their website. Lavender Rose is my fave.

  14. Jamie

I Love The vanilla coconut native deodorant. Been using it for a few years now! It’s the smoothest natural one in the market!

  15. riss

I tried this last year and my armpits became dark! Same with Native 🙁 I’m back with Crystal stick deodorant.

  16. AJ

Deodorants with baking soda are too irritating for me, but I think magnesium is key to preventing odor. I found a deodorant through kickinksoap that works great (all natural, no irritation, no odor), but I’m willing to try Schmidt’s, if they have one without baking soda and contains magnesium.

  17. Aleshia Jones

NO THANK YOU! I used the charcoal one and I had a horrible rash under my arms for weeks. It was painful and itchy. The company wanted to fix it by sending me more 🙄. I am not allergic to anything, but this item is extremely irritating. I read numerous reviews of the same problem.

  18. Rosanne

I’ve been using the charcoal one and love it!

  19. Jess

The charcoal one stains white clothing, from lots of expeirience. It and the lime one give me bumps in my pits and it’s hard to get it on if it’s cold, you have to let it warm up on your skin during winter months to get it to glide on. I have found another natural deodorant that is smooth and works better. If you can use this and it works for you, great because it is a lot better for you than regular deodorant, but I don’t think you could use this every day with out some skin issues.

  20. Lauren

I like the charcoal one the most. Like other commenters wrote, it’s important to hold it under your pits to warm it up before you use it. It might stain your clothes when you first use it, because your body is getting rid of the toxins that is in it, and those tend to stain- although, I like the GAP breathe shirts and this deodorant always stains the grey ones no matter what I do. Although I’m sure I tend to over apply. If you’re on the fence and don’t want to commit to a 3 pack, TJMaxx usually has them for $4.99 a stick.

  21. Jessica

I have tried a number of Schmidts. Worked ok at first, but soon irritated my skin and smelled weird. Switched to Native. Hands down Native is the BEST! Soft, smells amazing, and works great! Now at Target, although I have a subscription.

  22. Rachel

I’ve been using the charcoal variety for a month now and won’t ever go back to anything else. It’s natural people–it’s not gonna be the same as a chemical filled tube you’re used to. But I dont stink AT ALL and it glides on smooth if you don’t push too hard.

  23. annie

The charcoal one was the only one that seemed to be effective in getting rid of the body odor in my family and it REALLY was effective , however, I ended up eventually breaking out in a rash as well so now I switched to EOS and it seems to be working fine and no rash.

  24. hollyp1234

I liked this deodorant a lot. And I have tried almost ever men and women’s deodorant out there. I tried the Rose one. I have been using it for about 3 weeks with no issues or concerns.
