Last Day to Grab USPS First-Class Forever Stamps Before Price Increase (Starting 1/27)

Today is the last day to grab stamps before the price goes up!

On January 27th, USPS First-Class Forever Mail Stamps will increase from 50¢ per stamp to 55¢ per stamp which amounts to an extra $1 cost per book of stamps.

This is the largest percentage rise since 1991 when postage increased from 25¢ to 29¢ so you may want to head out today and stock up if you’re running low!

Also, select USPS mailing services will be increasing! As an example, Priority Mail will increase approximately 5.9%, so a small box that previously cost $7.20 to ship will rise to $7.90, while a medium box will jump from $13.65 to $14.35. Also, Priority Mail Express fees will increase by approximately 3.9%.

Wedding Invites at Target

However, on a positive note, each additional ounce to mail a single-piece letter will be reduced from 21¢ to 15¢, so a 2-ounce stamped letter, such as a typical wedding invitation, will decrease from 71¢ to 70¢. Visit USPS for more details.

Where’s a good place to buy these stamps? I’m trying to find somewhere with free shipping if possible.

    • Liz

      Costco

      • Juliette

        Thanks Liz!

    • Rich

You think maybe the Post Office would be a good place?

      • Momma

        😂😂😂

      • Ariel

        No need to be flip.

    • Sonya

You can also order online at the US Postal Service website (https://www.usps.com/). They do not charge shipping fees. That is where I usually order my stamps because of the wider selection.

      • Sue

I got charged $1.75 for shipping

      • Wrsmc

        They charge a handling fee.

    • Darla Brigman

Amazon is having a sell on stamps and free shipping if you have prime

  2. Wren

Thanks H2S… but I’m hoping to rely on some sweet eBay deals that you post in the future 😂

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re welcome! We’ll be sure to post if any pop up!

  3. Gail M

Sams has free shipping, but Costco is warehouse only.

  4. Kate

USPS has put their eBay store on vacation so you can’t buy from them today. 😕

    • Lynn

Yep Kate I saw that too! So disappointing!

  5. Princess

Thank you for the reminder. I ordered from Officedepot.com and used my reward certificates from Duracell battery deal. That’s what I normally use my reward certificates on anyway. I’m glad I was able to stock up before the increase because I use stamps to mail in my mortgage check each month.

    • Wes

Pay your mortgage online directly at your lenders website or with your banks online bill pay and save not only the postage but also the price of your check and envelope.

  6. Shannon K

Thanks for the reminder! I ordered mine from USPS. It’s inevitable that we’ll use them so I ordered 100 stamps 😳

    • Ginny

Just stocked up at USPS. Thank you for the idea Shannon K and the reminder Hip2Save! I was just at Costco yesterday and forgot but now I ordered themed specialty forever stamps from USPS.

Used my Office Depot Rewards too. They added $5 processing fee for each roll, which is the equivalent of the new price. Needed to use my rewards and typically everything is so overpriced there that it is worth it to get something I’ll actually use.

    • Garfield

This is why I don’t do the OD/OM deals – it’s difficult to spend the rewards.

    • mamasweetpea08

od price matches so i sometimes pricematch and use my rewards for things that i need like printer ink

First Class Packages will be going up 11.9% and they will be using zones to calculate the cost which is something new. If there’s something you want on ebay or something under a pound that you need to ship out to someone…. today is the day to get it done!

Stamp booklets are sold at many drugstores and grocery stores. You can buy them this weekend and use certain credit cards with the 5% back category this quarter (Discover for 5% at grocery stores; Chase Freedom for 5% at drugstores)
    Search for locations here:

    • Sandy

Wait what do you mean you can get them at your bank with no extra cost?

      • brooke

actually my ATM machine [KeyBank] has them. 🙂

  11. Dee

Would have been nice to receive this Hip2Save email earlier in the day. It’s 5:15pm NY….post office is closed. 😕

    • candym

you can go to Wegmans to but stamps at checkout or customer service desk.

  12. DeeDee

I was charged $1.75 shipping fee at USPS too.

  13. Donna

You can still order from USPS online – they do charge a S&H fee but it’s minimal.

    • Dee

Thank you Donna. There are no Wegmans near me. I’m in Yonkers, NY

  14. Katie

I bought some below cost on Ebay (200!) Which would be a great place to look. I usually buy them there when there’s a discount on everything 🙂

Join Quad Readers Club. For rewards, we get stamps every other month mailed to us. I think it’s 20. Just got my Jan stamps today, which was perfect timing. I read this post too late too, so I panicked that I didn’t stock up on stamps before tomorrow. Then I saw my QRC stamps in the mail. They last me a long time. I only really use a lot when it’s Christmas, n I plan to skip cards this year anyway.

  17. stlcardsfan

You can buy them at Walgreens in store until they close tonight and get a book of 20 for $10.

  18. T

If I printed a label today for shipping Monday how will that work? Thanks…

    • Lindsey

I just printed some labels on Etsy to ship out on Monday. Prices were up. If I chose today’s date to ship, prices were the same. Hope that helps!

      • T

Ok thank you for the information! 😊

  19. cynthia stein

you can go to usps.com and they do free delivery and if you go through ebates.com then type in usps it will take you to Office Depot where you can buy a roll of 100 stamps for $50 and get the $1.25 cash back.

    • cynthia stein

If you do the Office Depot one and have it mailed they charge a processing fee, but you can do free pick up at no charge.

  20. riss

There’s a rebate from ebates.com on office depot.

  21. Casey Meyers

    Walmart sales stamps.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing! Good to know! I do sometimes grab my stamps from Walmart!

  22. Bev Maloy

The price has already gone up on the USPS site!

    • Kendra

Still showing .50 on my end.

  23. Ivan

Expect Amazon to raise prices too since they rely heavily on USPS.

  24. Elyse

I think Costco might be selling them at the old price until sometime in February.

    • Rita

No, the sign in Costco said get them before they increase on the 27th. Was there yesterday.

      • Bernadette

Was just at Costco today. They said you can get current (lower) pricing until Feb. 17. So reader Elyse above is correct!

  25. Hello

Also try the grocery store at checkout.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for the helpful tip!

  26. Jean

Thanks, I thought I had until the end of January. I ordered online.

    • Liza (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      You’re welcome Jean!

  27. Irene

ShopRite sells stamps. Verified by phone they are still selling them at old price. Most stores open until midnight….

  28. CW

My Costco had a sign last night at the check out that member prices for stamps (before price increase) were good until Feb 17th so you still have time to get the cheaper stamps.
