In Girl, Stop Apologizing, #1 New York Times bestselling author and founder of a multimillion-dollar media company, Rachel Hollis sounds a wake-up call. She knows that many women have been taught to define themselves in light of other people—whether as wife, mother, daughter, or employee—instead of learning how to own who they are and what they want. With a challenge to women everywhere to stop talking themselves out of their dreams, Hollis identifies the excuses to let go of, the behaviors to adopt, and the skills to acquire on the path to growth, confidence, and believing in yourself.

      I agree with you Mary.

    • Beth

      Yes, agreed.

    • Becky

Thanks for posting that link! It’s a good reminder that just because something is published by a Christian publishing company, it doesn’t mean it is truly presents a Gospel-centered message.

    • Amy

Thanks, Mary! The article is a must read. I completely agree with what the author is saying.

    • Tina

Thanks so much for posting the review link!

    • Ashley

Thank you for sharing! I read a similar review on Girl Wash Your Face. I was appalled when a family member’s wife (who is a Christian) recommend that book. No thank you. I’m struggling enough in my walk without these types of influences.

    • Jessica

Thank you, Mary! I had already read this review. Thank you for posting it 😊

Thank you for posting that link. I enjoyed reading her response to Rachel’s new book.

Hated “Girl, Wash Your Face.” I found it to be whiny and preachy but that’s me.

  4. Lindsey K

Yes, I fully agree with Mary 👏👏🙌

  5. Kelly

Why do you keep pushing this lady’s book? They’re not good and insincere.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Kelly! This as a new release at a discounted price. We wanted to share this so that anyone who might be interested, could score the deal. Hope that helps!

Readers, do your research on this author. Shady practices and very condescending.

She is not the best person to be taking advice from. It’s easy to say “girl, stop” when finances and job security are not an issue for you. Not saying she doesn’t have problems, but they are not equal to the everyday woman, which is who she targets.

Use the link above and just google her name, You’ll find many articles.

Glad to see the above comments. I feel the same way about this being viewed as Christian reading. We easily fall for the label of Christian without doing our homework on what’s really represented. I was coming here to link TGC article and expected some push back from her fans but pleasantly surprised that so many beat me to it. I have no problem with the author but do have a problem with Christians just saying oh she’s a Christian author so her advice must be solid.

    • Ashley

Right! Follow Jesus, not other Christians. Judas, anyone?

  8. Laura

All these negative reviews. I bought this audio book today and I loved Girl, wash your face. But that’s just me. 😂😂🙌🏼

    • Ashley

Anything that disagrees with the world view is negative.

Woe to those who call evil good, and good evil; Who put darkness for light, and light for darkness; Who put bitter for sweet, and sweet for bitter!
      Isaiah 5:20 NKJV

      • Emily

I don’t think it’s negative for the sake of disagreeing with the worldview. I think the point was just to say this is put out with the front of being a Christian book when it doesn’t necessarily adhere to true gospel centered thinking. Some people just blindly believe if it says Christian it is when that isn’t necessarily the case.

This is a good price for a new release but I thought her first book was kind of lame. To me it talked about how great she is and didn’t offer anything new except insights into how she built an amazing company which was admittedly hard work but also to me elements of luck.

I listened to the Audiobook and loved it! I thought she was super motivational and had a fun personality. She says numerous times in the book that everyone is different, and these are her approaches. We read it for our church women’s book club, and there were mixed views for some of the above reasons. Many people are often envious of the success for others, but everyone lives and ambitions are different! I don’t think she’s saying not to follow Jesus’s example, she’s just promoting us to be strong as women.

  11. Karen

I listen to books too. It was $19.99 on Audible pre-order.
