Get ready to say goodbye to Walmart Savings Catcher!

That’s right! Walmart has decided to discontinue the Savings Catcher Program effective May 14th, 2019. This means that after May 14th, you will no longer be able to submit your Walmart Pay eReceipts to Savings Catcher. 😔

However, the money you have earned on your Savings Catcher eGift Card will remain yours to spend until you’re ready to use it in-store or online – there is no deadline by which you need to spend the eGift Card/rewards. Click here for more information about the program discontinuation.

What are your thoughts on this program coming to an end? Did you use it regularly or will you not really notice when it goes away?

(Thanks, Amber, Cristen, Allison, Ellen & taminator!)

Walmart is one of the only options I have where I live and given my schedule, it’s most convenient for me to shop at midnight and nothing else is open. I had over $100 built up in Savings Catcher and it suddenly disappeared. Spent hours with support but never could get them to do anything about it. Slowly started building it up again but then it went app only and now it just spends whatever it gets next visit so I have no balance currently.

    • Casey Meyers

There is a way to turn off Walmart Pay and just let the money build up till you are ready to use it. This is what I have done.

    • Elaine S.

Corporate Office refunded our “disappeared” Savings Catcher. We had over $160. They said it had to be an inside job. So now they’re cancelling it. I was told today that whatever balance you have on May 15 when it ends will be refunded to you. We’ll see.

      • Anthony Chappell

It will not be refunded to you it’ll stay on the gift card for you to use as payment

what is wal marts corporate number

I find Walmart has lover prices than Publix or Winn-Dixie. Publix is my favorite, if they had Walmarts prices I would shop there instead.

    • R

They do have lower prices than Publix and WD. Anyone claiming otherwise makes me chuckle.

    • Stephen Mann

Sadly we dont have publix up in pa but the price difference alone when I move down there will be crazy 🤣

  3. Cindy

I hate that they are discontinuing it! Used it all the time, and it was so easy to submit receipts once Walmart pay came out. Really disappointed. 😞

    • Maureen Cir

I shopped at Walmart BECAUSE of savings catcher! The price comparisons included drug stores and dollar stores even do if I bought my coffee at Walmart fit $6.99 and Family Dollar had it on for $5.99 then boom I got the $1.00…I will SO MISS…more money in Walmart’s trillion “bank” needed I guess. Sign of the times

      • clay dickason

On the whole walmart gave you the best overall price. Savings catcher was trying to get you into the store for one shopping trip by promising lowest price compared to competitors who do loss leaders, especially on soda. Their reasoning to discontinue isn’t accurate. They were losing money.

    • Shaw

It was easier back when you could simply scan your paper receipts.

    • Mary Tebout

I too am very disappointed that they discontinued savings catcher. I signed up for Walmart Pay, and now when i shop I can’t use walmart pay. So frustrating

  4. Mabos

I never even knew this program existed til now, but then I avoid WalMart if at all possible. I only go there for our RV supplies and pick up some keto-friendly items while I’m there.

  5. Kimberly

I used it all the time. I regularly received money back. Over the past year I have accumulated over $150.00. I will have to start clipping coupons again.
Do you know if they are going to offer price matching?

  6. sheri

in other news, Walgreens is fixing point redemption in May !

    • Luv2save2

      What does this mean?

    • Chelsey (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Sheri! That sounds awesome, can you let us know where you saw these changes?

      • sheri tallman

Store manager told me that it’s going to be reinstated May 4th
I have known this man for years so I absolutely trust that it is true
I am bummed about walmart savings catcher – I have used it since it launched , So convenient when you’re at a time and you just want to go to one place and save money

  7. oliaa

Slowly they are getting rid of everything that makes people shop there. I used to be there several times a week when they had their price matching… now only go there couple times a year- only if aldi dorsnt have something….

  8. JUDY Crandall

I quit using it after I could no longer submit the paper receipt. It was all too confusing!

  9. Miss Elena

Walmart prices are just several cents lower than any other grocery store. And produce prices are even higher. I did not use that feature before and not going to miss it at all.

    • Amber C Fincher

No there not. Where I live, there are several stores .50 to 1.50 cheaper. I’ll just start going to them instead.

    • Amy Hentman

Not only that they just got billions of dollars in their pockets due to the tax cuts for the rich and wealthy. Is there nonend to their greed? I have used this service since it came out and saved tons of money. Bye Wal mart!! I have choices and you just blew it along with your self service lanes which make us do all the work for you!

  10. Sherry

I won’t miss it. I used it when it used paper receipts but stopped once they started the wal mart pay. It never saved me much anyway because I live close to their home town and they don’t have any competition here.

  11. Rudy

I used it all the time. Got over $800 back over the years. I’m thinking that’s why they’re discontinuing it….probably losing too much money.

  12. Dan

Just because Savings Catcher wasn’t always giving me “cash back” did NOT mean Walmart had the lowest prices. But, it was still a nice “added benefit” which occasionally gave a few cents back. But, in the end, it sure feels that this was all just a long-play to get people to sign-up for Walmart Pay on their Walmart App – and now that they have some critical mass they are getting rid of Savings Catcher…

    • Amber C Fincher

I agree. They don’t even have the paper adds anymore to use to match lower prices.

  13. Ok

I won’t miss it because I never used it. I only would go to Walmart if I absolutely had to because I needed something I could not find anywhere else. I don’t like shopping there for a lot of the reasons other people said. I also do not like that they lock up EVERYTHING including items like hair serums, or eyeliners! I understand shoplifting can be a problem, but I do not like shopping where they treat you like a criminal and you can’t even look at an item without it being locked up in a case.

  14. Brandon

I received the notification yesterday and I will say that they USUALLY have the lowest prices, but not always. Out of every three receipts I bother to submit (usually my big grocery runs), I’d say one of them Wal-Mart beats anyone elses prices. It really depends on how many competitors are in your area. I’ve been able to rack up some pretty nice cash through the program. Sad to see it go.

  15. Rebecca Doster

I used it all the time. Walmart is really just a disappointment to me, anymore. First, they put in all the self check lanes. Then have you stand in line a second time so the door greeter can dig through your basket and rescan the items. Now they are getting rid of the Savings Catcher saying they proved their point and have the lowest price. If that’s true, why do I get money back every time I use it?

Let down for me. I used to use the Savings Catcher coupled with the Ibotta app to save what I felt like was the most possible. Switching to Walmart Pay made using Ibotta more difficult. Because I couldn’t go through the self-checkout line anymore since I needed an associate to print me a receipt. And not every associate knew how to do that and I hated standing there. Walmart isn’t the cheapest if I kept getting money back. I’m planning to shop at City Market (Kroger) from now on. At least they have digital coupons, work well with Ibotta, and I can earn gas points.

    • Aaron e

You can use Ibotta and Walmart pay. If you pay with any amount of cash, even a penny, it’ll print a paper receipt to use with ibotta

    • Crystal

You dont even have to pay with the penny. Just turn off credit and gift cards. Then you scan the Walmart pay code and can pay as usual and get your paper receipt.

      • Anthony

And the printing of the Walmart receipts for ibotta is actually what led to savings catchers demise. Walmart’s not gonna allow people to save twice duh. Either savings catcher or ibotta.

  18. Cheryl

Used savings catcher regularly and saved enough to buy a $700 intel pool for kids! Husband loves it and he will be sad to hear it’s going away!

  19. VIcki

I’m an employee at Walmart and a lot of my customers like to get this savings…I believe if they discontinue this savings people will be very disappointed. The elderly who don’t have a choice already are disappointed because we stopped price matching at the register. Som of Those who already know about the current savings catcher also use other apps to save money (IBOTTA, and others to save money) Saving money for the customer has been one of Walmart’s primary incentives to get sales….I hope they come up with something to replace this.

    • Vicky

I loved it until my balance of $150 disappeared! A total waste of my time and no one knew what happened.

  20. Kitcha

Jakki Kimball I am going to tell you right now, if and when you discontinue Savings catcher, I will stop shopping at Walmart, and only go there when there is no alternative.

I have been doing Savings Catcher almost since it first came out. Where I live, in a 20 mile radius I have 9 Grocery stores, alone. I used to go, each week get their sales advertisement, scour through them clip coupons, and have the store closest to me Price match my items.

But then came savings catcher. It was going to ensure me and my family, that if I shopped with them, I would no longer have to do this task. So, we switched to Walmart as our Primary and almost exclusively go-to grocery store. It was also the furthest in that radius.

All this time, I have saved a lot of money on savings catcher. I am not ashamed to tell you, that this savings was used to by food when were were short of cash 1 day or two before payday.

What you are saying now is NOT true, there are still MANY items in your store (you have millions and millions of items) that are still cheaper elsewhere. So you are wanting US to do the exploring, find out where they are cheaper, bring the items and receipt back to your customer service for the price comparison difference, to get the benefit. Who is going to bring a can of peas, or a 10 pack of toilet paper back top get the difference?

Personally I think, they looked at how much cash they were giving their customers back, because they were NOT the cheapest in many cases, and that money added up to a liability. It was costing them too much money to comparison shop for thier patrons. If I have to go back to doing this myself, there is no need for me to come back to Walmart. I can price match my things like I used to at the closest store to me, which is around the corner. Also there is Amazon, I get free delivery, so will be utilizing that as well more often now.

I call this a disloyalty to your patrons, it is a disservice.

    • Michele Smith

I agree, I too started shopping at Walmart to save the hassle of shopping several stores to get the most for our family budget. So needless to say I will be returning to the my local grocery stores.

    • Anthony

Uhm ma’am price matching was discontinued a few years ago. It’s not coming back and customer service only gives you the difference if an item goes on rollback in the store you bought it. Can of peas at Walmart $0.54 today and within 14 days it goes to $0.50 you’ll get the 4 cents difference. That’s about it.

    • Amy Hentman

      Preach it!

    • Jen W

you do realize the person you are responding to didn’t make this decision, right? It isn’t the employees fault.

  21. Jacklyn

I used it for a while until they changed it that you weren’t able to submit receipts. It had to be paid with WalmartPay and then submitted automatically.

  22. Michele

I agree, I too started shopping at Walmart to save the hassle of shopping several stores to get the most for our family budget. So needless to say I will be returning to the my local grocery stores.

  23. Elle

I may be the only one, but for me Walmart’s prices came back lower only because many deals didn’t show up. It did not work with ANY of our small grocery stores or drug stores. When it did work on Target/ Kroger, sometimes it would work on one variety of a product but not another (i.e. 2 different flavors of same coffee creamer). I saved more price matching.

  24. gwenmcclellan

I’m disappointed in the discontinuation of their program. I’ve saved over$200 in last year. To me that says they don’t have the lowest prices. I’ve enjoyed it while its lasted. I guess, I’ll make an extra trip to get those products i was saving on before to get them elsewhere. I have used the program religiously. So it’s paid off for me, better than they wish I’m sure.

I liked it when you scanned your paper receipts!! When they changed the program to automatically take the pay from your account, I never got it to work right despite customer service folks checking my account and saying it was set up correctly. After it didn’t work in Maine, Arizona and Florida, I gave up and stopped trying to scan and get points!! So I don’t care it’s going away. They took a great program and ruined it!!

  27. Stevenson

Need to keep this, Because i’m doing their job for them by self check out . Not enough cashiers .

    • Anthony

If y’all could raise kids to not steal, cashiers could be staffed at every register. Y’all want the lowest prices but still want more associates like that makes ZERO sense!

  28. Pat

The program was over for me when they switched to the App only. Had to pay with Walmart pay, then I didn’t get a receipt, which I need for Receipt Hog and Fetch Rewards. So, no change for me.

  29. shan

Last trip for me to walmart was yesterday. Nearly 300 bucks for this trip! 🙁 I, too, have been a long time user of savings catcher but since that is going away and they dont offer the rewards back like they used to; i’m done. I will start hitting the local grocery stores that are close to work. Their staff are jerks 95% of the time anyway

  30. Felicia W Foster

I always save money using the savings catcher so since you will be doing away with it in May, I will start checking the ads for the other grocery stores and shop less at Walmart!!!!!! Walmart says they are going to lower prices since they are doing away with the savings catcher and that’s bull!!!! I guess i will be making more trips to Food Lion, Harris Teeter and Lowes Foods from now on! Bad move Walmart!

  31. Robin

I used Savings Catcher from the beginning and saved almost $400. I didn’t care for it when they went to Walmart Pay to use this. I would have to email the receipt to myself then use Ibotta app to scan the receipt in my email which is way more work but it worked. I regularly go to the grocery store and use the Walmart app to scan the items I am buying and if they were cheaper at Walmart I would go there to buy them. My grocery store and Walmart are side by side, so it’s easy. By the way, Walmart is price matching the other grocery/drug stores ads for Savings Catcher not everyday priced items so Walmart has no idea if they beat the grocery stores everyday prices.

  32. Nora

Will miss this feature. Am a senior citizen and it’s much easier to shop one store and receive the sale/lower prices. Guess I will shop as I used to. Check adds each week and go to multiple stores. Bummer!

  33. Susan

I am very disappointed that Savings Catcher is being discontinued. I’ve gotten back nearly $1000.00 since its inception. I live in a small town and don’t have a lot of other options, but Savings Catcher always shows you the store that had the cheapest price. In my case, a lot of times it was Dollar General and Winn Dixie, so I’ll be looking more carefully at their sale ads now. I will also discontinue using Walmart Pay. I only set that up to be able to continue using Savings Catcher. For those of you saying that you need the paper receipt to use Ibotta and Fetch, I would always email the receipt to myself in the Savings Catcher App, pull up the receipt on my desk top computer and use my phone to scan the receipt right off my computer screen.

  34. Judy

I used it all the time along with Walmart pay. Hate to see it go.

  35. Elmer DIllon

Of course people stopped using the savings catcher, they changed the format. What was a fairly easy system to use they complicated and made us use there pay system to take advantage of our savings.
We are getting a Menards opening right across the street from the Walmart in our area. Guess where I’ll be shopping starting April 1st. The jokes on you Walmart. To say your savings catcher program is a success is stupid.

  36. Bill

Walmart is run by the same people that call you wil those scam calls you get all day long. They just want you to buy ITunes cards with the money in your Savings Catcher account

  37. Carol johnson

I have several grocery store options in my neighborhood but me, my family and friends all bypassed them to go to Walmart because of the savings catchers program. Even some relatives in other states were doing the same. However, we are so disappointed with the end of savings catchers, we all have vowed to boycott Walmart all together. I think it is a disgrace to all their loyal customers. It was deceitful to lure in customers with this program and then pull it when they think they have us hooked. That shows how much they care about us (none). My family, friends and I have decided we want be shopping at Walmart anymore. There are lots of other store options with far better quality items than wal-mart. So without the savings catchers program there is no need to pass them up to go to Walmart. Walmart is it worth all the loyal customers you are going to lose when you stop the savings catchers program or do you just not care?

  38. Christi

I will never use Walmart pay again! Only reason I use it is so I can submit my receipts. My debit card works just fine on its own instead of having to go through logging in on the app. I will avoid many of my trips to Walmart picking up just a few items now, just stop by the Dollar General where parking is closer and the lines aren’t as long.

  39. Kim

I hate Walmart.. the people that work there are lazy, rude, and do not want to help, much less say Thank You when you pay them!!!! I put up with this treatment because of the Savings Catcher and lower prices.. I will not be shopping at Walmart after Savings Catcher has ended.. that was the only incentive that kept me shopping there… SEE YA WALMART.. not gonna miss ya!!!

  40. BECKY REGNIER

Everyone should follow your lead !! I agree ! Wish I had another option. I will be looking !! Great post !!

  41. Gwen nulph

What are my thoughts on this program? I had $50.00 in my account that I will never be able to cash in. I find it is BS. You should be able to cash that in then close out your account! Just another reason to shop some where else.

  42. Robin

Any money that you accumulated in your account will be yours till you spend it. It doesn’t go away.

  43. Tim Robinson

Walmart keeps changing the rules. Walmart refuses to refund my money. Boycott Walmart!
