I purchased the mechanical pencil at my local Staples for $1. It writes smoothly. However, the eraser pops off and the small sticks of led slide out.

I was there a few times in the past few weeks and every time they had new things added to their clearance section or bins for cheap! One time they had book bags for cheap another time they had magnetic dry erase boards with magnets and a marker for $1! Same things as posted in the post where there, too. They also had plenty of other clearances, too. Worth checking in on Staples on the regular, IMO.
