Earn Money While Shopping w/ Shipt (+ One Reader Shares Her Experience)
Love Shopping?!
If you’re looking for a side job, Shipt is hiring shoppers for their on-demand grocery delivery service and they pay around $15/hour! If you love to shop, this could be a great, flexible job opportunity for you.
We chatted with Kaitlin, a Hip2Save reader and Shipt shopper, to get all the details about what it’s like to shop for a living!
How can I apply?
Hop on over to Shipt.com to find out more details about becoming a shopper and to apply. Note that if there is a position available in an area near you, they will contact you immediately to discuss further steps.
Kaitlin says: You fill out an application and wait anywhere from a few hours to a few days to hear back about an interview. The interview is done through the web, they will ask you basic interview questions where you video yourself answering the questions and it’s timed.
I heard back a week later and I got the job, but I know it can take up to two or three weeks.
What is required and how is training?
Each Shipt shopper must be at least 18 years of age, have a reliable vehicle manufactured in 1997 or newer, have valid car insurance, and possess a valid U.S. driver’s license.
Applicants must also have an insulated cooler bag, a working knowledge of groceries, the ability to lift 40+ pounds, and an iPhone (iOS 10 or newer) or Android (5.1 or newer). All applicants must be authorized to work in the U.S. and are subject to a thorough background check before they begin shopping.
Kaitlin’s thoughts: Training is an optional slideshow course. It wasn’t the most helpful. There are a ton of YouTube videos that take you along with a Shipt shopper. They go more into detail on how to be a great shopper and explain how to make the most profit out of Shipt. These videos were incredible and really helped me understand the whole system!
How’s the pay?
Kaitlin explains: It really just depends on the day and the orders that are available. Orders normally range from $5-$40 dollars. Higher Price orders usually take longer and have way more items. Some days I had amazing tipers, and other days I’d get nothing on top of the order price itself.
I did Shipt on top of having other jobs as well so I didn’t take as many orders per week, but it was nice to have that extra money and I think the time that it took me to earn the money was fair.
I was hired-it took about 2 months-but I never shopped for them because they ask you to bring the groceries inside the customer’s house to their kitchen. I’m not going to enter a strangers home for any reason.
I applied and was not accepted. They never told me why. I thought it was my age, 61. But my friend is a year older and they hired her. She says she does make pretty good money. I have been Mystery Shopping since the first of February and I am making more money.
Who do you mystery shop for? That sounds fun!
