Since when did people start buying toys for Easter??? If any of y’all do, why? This is a great deal but the last few days I’ve seen “great for Easter” on so many toy deals. Sorry for being a party pooper, just sad if this is now becoming a thing.

This isn’t a new thing. Easter baskets have existed for a very long time. I’m 31 and I got an Easter basket with candy and toys every year as a child.

  3. Monica

I’m 47 and I have four children and they (nor I) ever received any toys. Just a small basket of candy.

I think everyone has their own tradition. What works for our family is that my son gets a few small toys inside his eggs and one of his favorite types of candy. I personally do not like giving an entire basket of candy because of cavities and health issues. I do agree that some treat Easter like Christmas though, but everyone has their own opinions. Just do what is best for your family and nothing else should matter.

Well said, Janelle! No reason for anyone to be posting petty, judgemental comments EVER. Keep it kind and happy folks! Every family is different and that is just fine!

I have always always given cheap small toys on Easter for my 2 boys. I hate giving them candy because of cavities. Their aunt however, my SIL gives only candy. It’s all a matter of preference.

AND because i’m always looking for sales and coupons, my basket of toys is always cheaper than her basket of candy. Lol

In the past, I have definitely put in toys (along with candy) for my kids lol. I grew up getting not just an Easter basket from my parents but an elaborate one from Grandma. At my husband’s request now though, we’re only doing candy and I can pick a small book/toy under $5 to include. He grew up only getting candy, so obviously it’s different for everyone and really, who is it hurting lol.

I typically get my young little ones something for outside usually it’s bubbles, water balloons, chalk, jump rope rather inexpensive small things they can use to get them outside now that it’s starting to be spring!

I always include new summer stuff that I’d have to buy anyways like flip flops, new swimsuit, sunglasses etc. I use it to fill up the basket and give it the wow factor. I buy ahead of time with sales and never pay full price. Then I fill in with a little candy and egg hunt.
