Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive is May 11th (Collect Non-Perishable Food Items to Donate)
Get Ready!
On Saturday, May 11th, the National Association of Letter Carriers will be hosting their annual Stamp Out Hunger Food Drive!
Stamp Out Hunger is the largest one-day food drive in the nation and will help feed millions of families in all 50 states! This is a perfect time for you to go through your stockpile and donate as many non-perishable and unexpired food items as possible to support this cause. ❤️
HIP TIP: Keep an eye on your mailbox as you may receive a bag to fill with your donation items.
The top requested non-perishable food items are cereal, pasta, spaghetti sauce, rice, canned fruits and vegetables, canned meals, peanut butter, macaroni & cheese, canned protein (tuna, chicken and turkey), and beans. You can also donate unopened baby food or formula.
Be sure to leave items at your mailbox on May 11th. Your letter carrier will pick up your items and deliver them to local food banks or pantries.
(Thanks, Alex!)
Love this! We are moving on the 15th so that’s perfect timing 😊
Thanks for the heads up!! The Post Office always tells us last minute, which makes it harder to help.
You’re welcome!
Volunteers are also needed to help load (and possibly) sort the food once the postal workers drop it off at the food bank trucks; check with your local food bank. A co-worker of mine has done this in the past and said it is a fun way to volunteer. Also, check the website of your local food bank (where the donations will be headed) to see if they have a list of “most needed items” as well as more information about the impact of your donations. I’ve volunteered at the local one in my area (Raleigh, NC) many times for sorting and packing donations, and it is a great way to give back to your community.
Hi Tracey, am from Raleigh, NC too.
Thanks for the info, will check.
Thanks so much for the helpful comment, Tracey! Good to know!
I volunteer at our local food pantry and we moved to another bldg, same town, which is in the same strip mall with the post office. Well, the postal workers didn’t like the traffic the food pantry recipients created, eventhough we have volunteers directing the flow of traffic. So last year they had the food drive (our first year in the new building), they gave the donated goods to another pantry, not sure if it was in the same town. We are only a hundred steps from the post office, and they used to give it to our pantry when we were miles away from them. SMH. Did it out spite? Maybe. We’ll see if they give the donated goods to another pantry this year. Hopefully, it stays in our town coz we serve 400 families a week, a lot of seniors, but some families have 7-9 members!
Thanks so much. I’ve been looking for something to have at work – I’ll be putting a collection box out today.
That’s awesome! You are SO welcome!
