Walmart just announced they’ll be adding free Next Day delivery across a wide range of general merchandise from Walmart.com – all without a membership fee!

With NextDay delivery, customers can choose from over 200,000 eligible items including diapers, laundry detergent, toys, and electronics (the specific assortment of eligible items may vary by customer location). Note that NextDay delivery will only be available on eligible orders of $35 or more.

NextDay delivery will be available first to Walmart.com customers in Phoenix and Las Vegas (we are jealous!) and will expand to Southern California in the coming days. It will roll out gradually over the coming months, with a plan to reach approximately 75% of the United States this year (this includes 40 of the top 50 major U.S. metro areas).

Here’s how NextDay delivery works:

Visit Walmart.com and toggle into the NextDay delivery experience to view items that are eligible for free NextDay delivery. This option will be slowly rolled out across the country in the months to come.

Add eligible items to your cart and proceed to checkout.

Everything in your cart must be eligible for NextDay delivery to qualify and cut-off times vary by location.

As we mentioned last week, Amazon recently rolled out Amazon Prime One-Day Shipping for millions of items. But in order to take advantage of this perk, you do need to be an Amazon Prime member which currently costs $119 per year. This seems like a pretty hefty price tag for one-day shipping, considering Walmart is offering up NextDay delivery for free!

What do you think? Will you be ditching Amazon Prime & using Walmart’s NextDay delivery instead?

Once my prime is up for renewal next month I am cancelling. I’ve been a member for over 10 years but I can’t justify the price for the music and faster shipping. I hardly ever order single items under the free shipping amount, and most things are on subscribe and save.

    • Doug

I haven’t paid for Prime since last year. Sign up for the free 30 days and cancel before it auto renews. Then use another email address to sign up again. Read about that online and it works fine.

      • Krisp

Great idea do you have to use different credit card numbers?

        • Ivan

No. I’ve even used same address multiple times.

      • Lynn

Can’t imagine who has that many email addresses to use but glad it works for you.

        • Raz

i have 5 email address to use on amazon,so i never paid, amazon account based on email not based on credit card, use one month free trial than end it before renew, than after three months enjoy again 30 days trial on same email .get rid of prime fee 🙂

        • Ivan

It’s very easy to create as many email addresses as you want at places like Gmail.

      • Laurie

I don’t have to sign up under different emails – they keep giving me free trials every few months. Why people pay for Amazon?

  2. Julie

I didn’t renew my Amazon prime membership last month. It had just gotten too expensive. I don’t have the internet to stream movies so I was only using it for the shipping. I’ve been using Walmart and it’s not hard to hit $35 for free shipping.

  3. Ellen

Good subway I will actually get my stuff I order on time I have had 6 yes 6 delivery’s show up late or not at all with amazon the tracking goes no where or is delivered in 4-5 days instead of two like when I ordered 🙄

    • Ellen

      Maybe not subway lol

      • Jenn

@Ellen – contact Amazon when your orders are late. Usually they’ll add a month of Prime or give you a $5-$10 credit.

        • Monica

They stopped doing cedits. That is one of the reasons I didn’t renew. If your package isn’t delivered on time they refund shipping cost, which was $0 because you paid $120 for a membership to have free shipping. Seem like I was being scammed.

          • Alisa

I learned this recently as well. My package went ‘undeliverable’ and they were unable to order me a new one. I asked for a free month of prime for my troubles and all they gave me was a $3 credit, the value of a clippable coupon I used.

  4. Cindy

    Yeah, that’s awesome!!

  5. Jess

Capitalism is amazing! Companies competing with other companies and the consumer wins with better services and better prices.

    • Paulina

      You can say that again!!

  6. Laura

I’m pretty sure we will be canceling our Prime membership once it’s up
For renewal. I love the music, free books, etc but I don’t see that worth the price when I can go purchase the items elsewhere. Sorry Amazon! 🤷🏻‍♀️

  7. Homeland Couponer

Nope, I’ll stick to Walmart for free in-store pickup only. I order lots of single items that don’t reach the $25 minimum for free shipping at Amazon so Prime works for me. I like being able to order what I want, when I want it, without having to worry about meeting a minimum in order to get free shipping!

    • Tia in FL

I don’t like having to meet the minimum. I’m about 35 minutes from an Amazon warehouse and the next-day delivery has been awesome. My last order was placed around 2pm and it was here the next day around 11am. Being that we consistently use Amazon for music and streaming, the value is there for us.

    • R

But even if you have Prime, they still get you with the “Add On” program. And since their one-day shipping roll out, I’ve found some of my cheaper repeat purchases, like a $10 pool reagent I need about every 3 months, suddenly went from being Prime to regular ground shipping – it took a week to arrive.

  8. Renee

Nice to have this option too! Sometimes Walmart has what I’m looking for and Amazon doesn’t or not at the best price.

  9. Jen

Yeah, in select cities. Prime delivery is nationwide. Not to mention all the other shipping options like prime now (big cities), key delivery, prime day delivery, fresh etc. I actually use a ton of other benefits like the video, free kindle books, free audible books, prime pantry, wardrobe, music, photos, free ship on woot etc. I probably have 20 single orders per month at least so that coupled with all the other benefits WM can’t compete. But if you only order every once in a while and only have Prime for the shipping, it may not be worth it.

    • Lynn

I agree! Maybe not 20 orders a month but at least 4 and we love all that amazon offers – music, tv, etc. We hate the price but use often enough to warrant it. Many things like our water filters, odd sized ac filters, are delivered quick & easy, price good for the larger amount we order and we generally get our orders in 2 days.

  10. Sue

I can’t wait for next day delivery in my area. I don’t feel safe shopping at my Walmart so this is great.

    • Saydee

I live in touristy Orlando and ive had such bad experiences with panhandlers and homeless in the parking lot that it has literally deterred me from shopping there after sundown!! What a shame…
I think walmart has some great prices and i basically only shop walmart online so….bring it on!! I say. 😊😊

    • Ash

Yes, I’ve noticed this in more populated areas. I actually see more negative things during the day. Everything from a man walking around with an empty gas can asking for money, to someone being held down by officers because they stole something.

      • melissastone

I agree I’ve also had bad experiences like the ones mentioned at Wal-Mart. I either shop Meijer, Kroger, or Amazon now.

  11. DeAnn

I will be keeping my Amazon prime for now. I like being able to shop at multiple stores. My biggest grape with Walmart is packaging. I’ve received many ripped up boxes from Walmart.com

  12. Ivan

I try to order from Walmart over Amazon as much as possible. Usually Walmart’s prices are the same. And i like the option of picking it up at the store when it’s something expensive to prevent porch pirates.

  13. Kristina

I think Walmart has to offer next day shipping, otherwise it will eventually be taken over by Amazon. I don’t see this hurting Amazon at all. Walmart will have to raise prices to cover additional shipping costs and it will end up costing the consumers who do shop at Walmart more. Amazon charges $119 for annual membership, so you have to order regularly to get the value. However, I order what seems like daily and buy just about EVERYTHING from them now.

    • Ivan

Walmart will be fine. People still love to shop in store too.

  14. Di

Just be careful what you order at Walmart.
If it’s something you’re going to keep and are for sure on all is well but
I recently placed an order online and decided not to keep it. So I went into store to do the return and they charged me a restocking fee of almost 5 dollars off of the purchase price
Left me with a sour taste

  15. Di

Sorry- and I forgot to tell you that I did not receive the reimbursement at the time of the return.
    Not happy

  16. MamaBear

Stick it to the man! ( well, Wal-Mart is kind of the man also…lol)

  17. robby69

Problem with Walmart online delivery is that while they state 2-Day delivery now, it doesn’t show up for 3-5 days. Why?…. Yes they ship it 2-Day, but unlike Amazon which ships the same day you order it, Walmart takes a few days to ship.

    • R

You are lucky if you’re getting same day shipping from Amazon! That definitely has not been the case for me and to be fair, it’s not what they advertise – it’s 2 days from when they ship. I think a lot of folk’s success or failure with 2 day delivery is based a lot on geography. I click on “prime” items all the time that have a projected delivery beyond two business days. I actually have a better “2 day” track record with Walmart, but most of my purchases are ship to store, so that may make a difference.

  18. hrosana

    Lol

  19. Kcmiami

I love my target free two day shipping. No membership fee, no $35 minimum order…. just a FREE target red car using my bank account.

And if I want my stuff right away I do the drive up. Personally I can’t stand Walmart or amazon, but I do occasionally use them since I am an add on to someone else’s membership.

    • Sharon

Target is so expensive. I just can’t.

  20. Christine

I live in Phx within walking distance of a huge Wal-Mart and I hardly ever go there because the lines are long, the store is dirty, the parking spaces are too close together and the lot is filthy. (The area is adjacent to a very desirable neighborhood and you could say that it’s being revitalized). It’s hardly ever a fun experience to go in there. I don’t think Wal-Mart is that cheap anymore, either. Not sure if having things delivered would change that perception. Wal-Mart has a few big PR problems, IMO…like low wages for it’s employees and the dirty stores, just to name a few. I’d rather spend a little more to shop at places like Costco and just be able to go get what I want when I’m ready, whenever possible.

    amazon sux

i was a seller there many years til they started 2 step verification

they kicked me off cos i only had one number to giv them lol

    i love walmart

  22. Steph

Had Amazon prime for a long time and did not renew last October when membership was set to renew for higher rate. I do not miss it at all. I order from Walmart, CVS and Walgreens all with free shipping and everything else I get from Kroger or Meijer.

  23. CocoaMom

At first I thought the one day shipping on Amazon was a joke but its true. I live close to Orlando. I can’t stand Walmart or having a order minimum. Maybe it is just the area I’m in but the people are rude. I shop at Target, Aldi, and Publix. I’ll gladly pay more if it means being happy and treated kindly.

I often need one item so having an order minimum for free shipping turns me away and makes me want to just drive to the store myself. I can order from Target and pick up an item too.

Amazon membership is more than shipping for me but I like being able to hop on, buy what i need and it be here in less than a week. There are times when it will say it will take longer, and it still comes early.

At this point, everything is increasing, Netflix, Hulu, cellphone providers, insurance, …..only thing is struggling to keep up is wages. :/

  24. Lee

I would pay extra and wait for shipping just to not have to deal with Walmart or its employees. Walmart has to compete and this is one way they are trying.

  25. Rebecca Clark

    Wal-Mart.
    Wal-Mart
    Wal-Mart
Awww.. Many people like posting about Wal-Mart
If ya don’t like something about it .
Then go take the time to help with the facts.
    pray too
    Amazon …
Idk what it is .. but again
Stand up or shut up !! (Kindly)
