“You can never get enough books into the hands of enough children.” Dolly Parton

Do you have young kiddos at home? If so, they may be eligible to score a brand new, age-appropriate book every month from birth until five years of age courtesy of Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library!

All you need to do is head over to ImaginationLibrary.com and enter your country and address to see if this program is available in your area. If so, you’ll be able to register your child and start receiving FREE books.

And if you sign your child up right at birth, you will end up creating a home library of up to 60 books if you stay in the program for their first 5 years of life! So awesome!

NOTE – Keep in mind that you can only enroll your child or grandchild if the child lives in a community that participates in the program. Not all areas in the United States participate in this program.

We’re foster parents and we always sign up new kiddos who come to our home as soon as possible after placement. Whatever books they receive, go with them when they go home. It’s a great reminder of our time together when they read the books after they leave and I love knowing that regardless of the situation they’re in, at least they have some books. It’s such an awesome program!

This program started a few months ago in my area & I was thrilled. My 2 & 4 yr old sons each get so excited to receive and read their books. Every book they’ve received so far has been adorable. Such a great program!

I registered my 1st born almost 5 years ago (SE MI) and she LOVES getting a book every month! We’re sad it’s almost over. I have been trying to register my 2nd born for almost 2 years now, (still) not available in my area anymore. 🙁

I have two kids and they are 2 years apart and both involved with this program. I love that they both get books, but it’s the same book each month when they get them (we haven’t gotten them every month either) being they are two years apart I thought they would have different age groups and get a different book each especially being in the same household. I end up donating a lot of the doubles to either local daycare centers or offices with child waiting rooms so they don’t go to waste though.

(Thanks, Angelica!)

This is a pretty awesome program.
TIP: If it says you are not eligible or does not submit correctly GO TO: Getting Started, Affiliate Locator. Find your county in the drop down list or on the map, hit search. It will pull up your local contact in charge of this program for your county. Email them directly and they can get you enrolled if it is not working on the website. (This is what I had to do – & now the boys both get a book each month)

Thanks so much for the helpful tip Julie!

Love this program. My daughter knows the books are coming and every month she asks me when will her book present be here. They’re great books. Our favorite discovery was the Otis the Tractor series, such cute books. And Bunny’s library trip was so cute.

    • Liza (Hip Sidekick)

We loved the Otis the Tractor books too, Jen! So happy your daughter has enjoyed the program!

  3. Jessica

I did this and loved it! Sad my daughter outgrew it.

  4. KCha

It’s available in my area but the library that takes the applications says they aren’t accepting them at this time 🙁 I’ll fill it out and hang on to it for now.

Love this program my 2 youngest now 17 & 20 loved to get new books every month in the mail. We still have the books and I read them to a little boy I watch twice a month.

  9. Tina

Love that they do this! It did take about 6 months after I signed my daughter up for her to get her first book but I think that was our local group’s fault not the organization. Can’t complain about free though! Love the message from Dolly in the front of each book too.

https://pjlibrary.org/home is a similar program for families with young Jewish children; the books are all chosen to be consistent with and to show Jewish values and traditions.

I’m so sad this isn’t available in my area 🙁

We love getting these! Two of my kids get them and we enjoy all of the books! Such a great program! We got Violet the Pilot a couple months ago— so cute!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome! Thanks for the feedback, E!

We were getting them and all of a sudden it stop. Not sure what happened. My girls were sad books were coming to them anymore after three months

    • HQB

Did you contact them to ask?

      • Colette Hill

I couldn’t find any contact info for them. There are no local affiliates for us, but there is a few counties over. I was going to contact them and ask about getting one started in my area or possibly piggybacking into the other county’s program, but I didn’t find an email or phone number.

For those that are enrolled in the program, are the books mailed to your home or do you have to pick them up? I want to sign up my grandkids but their parents have transportation issues.

    Thanks!

    • Angelica

They are mailed to the address that you provide during the registration online.

  16. Melissa Sandrock

This sounds like a great program for my 3 grandchildren.

Both of our boys, ages 3y and 16m, LOVE getting their book in the mail every month! Our older son has never been into reading or story time, but this helps make it so much more exciting for him. Our younger son has always loved books and you can tell it makes him feel extra special to get his very own every month. I am so excited to sign our new addition up when they arrive in a few months, too.
