Fun! We use to eat Ube ice cream at a fun little ice cream shop in San Francisco. I haven’t ever seen it anywhere else!

    • mamasweetpea

i’m surprised TJ has this. I’m going to have to try their version. We’ve only ever seen it at Asian stores especially filipino stores. That and Halo halo ice cream are super yummy

Ahhhhh! I think I know that little SF shop. Actually now I think there were 2 places I went. One in the sunset and one in the mission area but I could be wrong.

Anything ube is my favorite growing up in the Philippines. Ube ice cream, ube hopia, ube pastillas and halaya ube. All yummy!

If anyone knows, is ube like murasakimo (I think that’s the purple potato in Japan). I really liked that soft serve flavor when I was there and this is making me hopeful and excited.

Some of y’all really need a Filipino friend. I can’t believe how many people don’t know what this is or how to even pronounce it. You all would die if you tried a halo halo. You should at least google it.

    • Sophia

Not to mention how good an ube cake or ube slush bubble tea taste!

  14. Michelle

We just bought this yesterday! They were giving samples out with crushed cookies on top. It’s delicious!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      YUM! 😋

What’s catching my eye is the one just beside it, the chocolate ice cream *made with coconut milk*. That’s how they make local ice cream in the Philippines (the coconut tree and “nipa hut” drawing suggests that’s where they drew the inspiration from. This would pair so well with the ube ice cream.

Back home ice cream was peddled in the streets and the sellers would ring their bells so you know they’re in the area. Ahh, the memories!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

How neat! Thanks so much for sharing your memory with us, Carrie!

  16. sue

Just got this yesterday and it’s really good! You can taste the Ube for real and even have tiny bits in it. 😆 had to stop myself before I finish the whole point in one sitting!
