Because those of us in the cheap seats need free Bellinis the most…

Delta is planning to improve its economy experience for passengers on international flights of 6.5 hours or longer. This November, Delta will begin offering perks to its Main Cabin passengers that have traditionally been enjoyed by its business and first-class flyers only.

These luxuries include welcome cocktails (like peach Bellinis!), hot towel service, bistro-style dining, and wrapped chocolates during descent. Passengers may also notice these upgrades on select shorter international flights that offer Delta One or Delta Premium Select.

“This is about investing in every single customer who chooses Delta, no matter where they sit on the plane,” said Allison Ausband, Delta’s Senior Vice President of In-Flight Service. “The thoughtful touches we’re investing in throughout the new Main Cabin experience were designed by flight attendants with one goal in mind: delivering an exceptional experience that our customers will rave about and one that our team, the best in the business, is proud to deliver.”

Designed to delight its flyers and create “wow” moments, Delta’s upgraded Main Cabin experience received high customer satisfaction scores as it was tested during the past year. This new service is part of Delta’s multi-billion dollar investment in the overall customer experience, said company officials.

I remember when airlines used to offer meals and drinks to everyone on shorter flights. Luggage was free, too. You didn’t get hit with all the unexpected surprise fees that make your $29.00 flight go up to $200. Back then I traveled a whole lot more. Now I don’t enjoy flying anymore because of the hidden fees that pop up.

I quit smoking years ago; but, remember when smoking was allowed on planes AND you could change your seat if there was an opening. Also, many times I showed up for a flight 1/2 before liftoff (with or without a ticket) and could still get a great seat at a great price. I do not fly anymore unless it is an emergency. Nowadays, it may take longer to get to the airport, get on the plane, fly, land, and get to your final destination than it does to just drive.

        I meant to write 1/2 hour…

Unfortunately, that was before 9/11 which put Airlines through bankrupsies….

Good to know. Thanks for sharing. We’ll be flying delta on our next trip

As someone who works in the airline industry…it’s not free, it’s included in your fair and you get to pay for it whether you will consume it or now. I hate all the fees too, but at least that way I get to decide what I want and don’t pay for it if I don’t want it (premium seat assignment, food, lots of baggage).
As a good consumer it’s worth comparing all fares every time you travel.

This is why I still go with Frontier or Spirit. Bare minimum, no perks, base price.

        • Dillon

Only issue with Spirit and Frontier is there is often only 1 or 2 flights per day. Next flight to that location may be 2-3 days later. So if there is a delay or cancellation, you could be stranded without options.

Haven’t had a major issue yet, and can usually get my round trips for under $100. I also love the lottery of not picking a seat and being surprised at airport lol. Another big advantage, I haven’t had issue with lost luggage since solely carrying on. Frontier was late leaving Nola this Feb by 2 hours and they gave me $25 gift card due to issue. My one way was $39, bonus!

I wanted to share that Delta has great customer service. I bought round trip tickets to Europe and I had great experience with them.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

That’s awesome to hear, Garfield! Thanks for taking a moment to let us know about your experience!

I only fly Delta now. There customer service was so great when I had a family emergency and had to fly back to the east coast with only a days notice. The only thing they required was where my dad was being hospitalized for verification. They gave me such a great deal. I really appreciated that. Otherwise I wouldn’t have been able to go.

I’ve had really great experiences with Delta! I just flew Delta to Ireland and their customer service was great! I will def fly with them again. Highly recommend!

SWEET! Thanks for the recommendation, Cheri!

What about the customers that pay for higher prices for first class today? Those used to be part of the perks of flying first class….

I understand that many things are add-on costs in flying these days, but many fares are now lower than even taking a greyhound bus (and often much lower than the cost of a taxi to get into the city you flew to)! Years ago, I never even thought about flying due to the high cost of a basic ticket. I’m happy to fly on an airline that charges extra for certain services if it means I can actually afford the tickets in the first place! However, on international flights of 6+ hours, it only makes sense that a basic food and beverage service is available for low or no cost. That’s a long time to sit like sardines and not have some basic needs available.
