With Halloween just a few months away, Target is already releasing a sneak peek of their exclusive Halloween decor, supplies and costumes from Hyde & Eek.

And this year, Target’s Halloween Boutique includes lots of fun costumes for the entire family including an assortment of the most adorable adaptive kids costumes!

girl in wheelchair wearing Target princess costume

These princess and pirate costumes feature openings in the back for easy dressing and a wheelchair-friendly design. And the legs are roomy enough to allow for getting dressed with shoes on. Both costumes come with realistic detail and all the accessories you need to complete the look.

Even better, they are making it easy to incorporate your kiddo’s wheelchair into their costume with these Pirate Ship or Princess Carriage wheelchair covers! No super-crafty skills required!

Boy wearing adaptive shark costume

Also included in the Hide and Eek Boutique this year are a Unicorn and Shark Costume! Both are designed for comfort and have flat seams with no tags for a sensory-friendly design. Plus, the front pockets in both costumes have a hidden opening for convenient abdominal access.

All of the adaptive costume accessories – like the wings on the unicorn or fins for the shark – can be removed making each costume totally customizable for the comfort of your kiddos.

I can’t express how much I LOVE this, my son is 8 years old and uses a wheelchair. It does my mamma heart good to see inclusion ❤️ thank u target!!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I agree! I am so happy about this, BB!

  2. Gretchen

    This is beautiful 💜💜💜

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      It is!

  3. J

This post is awesome! Thank you for never forgetting about the disabled & including posts like this that make life easier for them & their families. God bless you.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You are SO very welcome, J! ❤️

  4. Lmh

Love this beautiful example of inclusion! My 5 year old has expressed wanting a unicorn costume this year (yes, she’s already thinking about it!). I showed her the pictures of these costumes and it provided an awesome opportunity for discussion. We’ve preordered the unicorn costume, but more importantly, my daughter and I had an awesome conversation about diversity! Thanks HP2S for posting about this!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

Aww, how sweet! You’re SO very welcome! That’s wonderful to hear! Thanks a ton for taking a moment to share that with us. We sure appreciate YOU!

  5. KD

This is so great. I work at a Children’s Hospital and I appreciate this for our kiddos and their families. We take some things for granted sometimes but it makes the staff smile to see the patients be able to participate and have fun.

  6. Sandy

Love, love, love this!!! Makes me like Target even more!

  7. Julie

I don’t personally have a use for these—however way to go Target! I love that they are including all kids. As a working parent it is hard enough to come up with a halloween costume for my kids and we don’t need to adapt it for special needs like a wheel chair. I would think this will help out parents tremendously and helping kids feel like they are special on halloween.

    • Staci

Good question! If you sew or know someone who does, I suppose you can cut a space in the abdomen and put a Velcro strip there for easy access to a port. This is still great!

  8. Courtney

So cool! I’m curious what the easy access on the abdomen is for tho?

    • Katie

Hey Courtney – happy to fill you in! Kids (and grown ups) with long term feeding tubes can have them implanted directly into the stomach through the abdomen. Flaps in outfits allow for feedings (which can take a while!) to be set up, monitored, and disconnected with a minimum of fuss.

      • Courtney

Oh that makes sense! Thanks 🙂

  9. Mau

I love this….way to go Target!!!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      YES!

  10. Edy

Thank you target !! As a mother with a especial needs daughter that uses a wheelchair if they have Velcro perfect for easy for kids that have problems using their hands

  11. Janelle

So awesome! Dress up is so fun for kids. I’m glad more can be included. Hopefully they don’t cost an arm and a leg either!

  12. Wendy

Can’t even express how much I love this!!!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      YES! Yes, you can, Wendy!

    • Erica

I’ve noticed Target uses diverse adult and child models — race, size, age, as well as intellectual and physical differences. I was looking at dresses the other day and one is the models had a prosthetic leg. I also love that they’re part of groups and happy. In the past, representation was usually segregated and sad. Love just seeing everyone portrayed as living their lives.

  13. Gina

I’m so overcome with emotion I’m full on crying. Good job, target! So happy for the families that this will make things a little easier for.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      AWWW!

  14. kayti

As a mom with a child with SPD, I am SO GLAD there are finally options! It’s been hard finding anything without tags or that is “too itchy”! Every year we end up making our own or finding crazy things to go under costumes and hoping the weather cooperates!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

I agree! Thanks for taking the time to comment, kayti!

  15. Patricia

I just ordered some dresses and was pleasantly surprised to see differently abled models!

  16. Sab

Love this! Hopefully more stores will follow.

  17. Bree

This is wonderful! I hope that people will reach out to parents in their community and make sure everyone’s kiddos can afford these costumes for Halloween. I’d love to start saving and donate some to St. Mary’s, a hospital we have in Norfolk, Va. Maybe a CHKD or St Jude even…kids all around. This is inclusion done well!!

  18. Carina

That is so beautiful. I love that target cares..not that we needed another reason to love target.😂😃

  19. Kitty

This is another thing I love about Target. They listen to customers!

  20. Meghan

As an Occupational Therapist, this just warms my heart. Way to go Target! Just another reason to love you!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Thank you so much for you being an OT, Meghan! An occupational therapist helped our family through some really hard times with our son!

      • shop4mybabies

my daughter that has Aspergers really benefited from her school districts OT, and the OT’s therapy dog.

  21. Katie

    Couldn’t love this more!!!

  22. Justine

Now THAT is a step in the right direction!

  23. Becky

As an adult with progressive M.S. & having been a kid with (and still having) S.P.D., I love all of the inclusive clothing that has come out lately. Halloween costumes aren’t (commonly) known for their comfort at all ever and I’m so glad that they’ve addressed this issue FINALLY and made easy and affordable costumes for (special needs) kids. There are some awesome costumes out there that parents have made and that’s great!! But not all of us can rig up an award winning cardboard ship and that’s all right because Target is doing it for us!!! And $45 is not a bad price at all to pay!!! Now to convince my son that he doesn’t need to borrow mommy’s wheelchair for Halloween 🤪

  24. Mizz Mo

Well, there went my mascara!! Thank you so much for posting this – I will share with some of the teachers at my kiddo’s elementary so they can pass this information along. These are so awesome!!! My nephew is a bit too old for these now (15 yo), but perhaps they will see how well-received these are and expand in the future to include teens and adults as well (they like dressing up too). Cheers!! 😃

  25. Nancy

WOW!! First the barbie in a wheelchair and now this. How amazing! Yay! For Target, for everyone, for recognizing and being so inclusive of EVERYONE! I cannot believe this is finally happening. Where were our eyes (and hearts) so many eons ago? I am so impressed. I just wish it didn’t take this long. My sister (who has passed) was born with spina bifida. She was paralyzed from her waist down from birth until her passing at the age of 46. I will spare everyone the details and all the things she went through. But besides the surgeries all her life, the worst were things where she couldn’t or it was difficult for her to participate, and Halloween costumes were one of them. So thank you for whoever’s brain(s) were working to come up with this! Now children will not have to endure things that were not part of the ’60s and ’70s when my sister was a youngster. I hope they keep going on this same track with everything!! Thanks for this post H2S. While it’s not relevant to me now, it’s so awesome to see and makes my heart so warm.
