There isn’t a JCP’s near here but I would love some tips on how to save at the Great Clips / Super Cuts / Fantastic Sams options for my kids’ haircuts! We occasionally get coupons in the mail, but end up paying full price often as well. Would love to see a H2S post about this! 🙂

    • Andrea

My Great Clips accepts all competitors coupons!

      • Luna

I got a great clips coupon 7.99$ in my local zoo booklet

    • CAJ

Agreed. I’m always on the look out for hair cut coupons! My favorite is Great Clips. My boys prefer short, closely shaved sides/back hair which looks great on them but quickly grows out and at $20 a cut (including tip) it’s hard to keep up with the cuts. Problem with GC coupons is that they’re locally owned so they don’t have universal coupons. We just got 2 $8.99 cut coupons in the Value Pak coupon mailer. They’re good until the end of August. I’m trying to stretch them til then for a back to school cut but their hairs are pretty shaggy right now.

      • Melissa

Maybe check with a neighbor that doesn’t use the coupons, then you could get one now and at the end of August. 🙂

Not sure if this is helpful, but we have a beauty school/academy near us. They are always super inexpensive (like 6 dollars for wash, cut, and dry) and treat our kids like celebrities. Fair warning, it takes much longer than a typical cut as they have to have an instructor sign off on/ approval at different points of the cut, but they are always so grateful to have younger clients. They also offer good deals on hair coloring and that kind of stuff and in our area will even do birthday parties. Just an inexpensive option that also helps the community of young professionals get experience.

      • Stephanie

That is an awesome idea for a win/win!

      • Melissa

I’m a barber and I can tell you that as a student I really appreciated when people brought in their kids for haircuts. You have too do over 100 cuts before you can graduate here, I hit that mark on my last day. Most schools here charge $8 for a shampoo, cut and style but you’re right about it taking longer.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the request! I’ll be sure to pass that along to the team!

I just got a $7.99 great clips coupon yesterday. I would keep checking the mail, with back to school coming soon, I’m sure you’ll see one soon.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Ooh! Awesome offer for sure! Thanks for sharing with us, Melissa! We’ll have to keep a lookout!

Thank you hip2save. They do a really beautiful job with little girls hair cuts at JCP.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re welcome, Rae! I agree! They did a great job on my daughter’s hair a few years back when we went in for their back to school offer.

Can the same coupon be used if I have 2 kids?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Rosi! Here is what I found listed in the details –
“One use per coupon, one coupon per customer ”
You could always call in to your location to be sure on how they might honor that for you.

Unfortunately, my daughter had her very first-ever haircut at a JC Penney, because the other salon had suddenly closed. She was so excited i didn’t want to disappoint her after she got all pumped about a first haircut. (she’s 3 with straight hair)
Welp, they ruined her hair. The woman had absolutely no clue how to cut it, and on top of that she charged me an additional $18 for 3 minutes of blow drying! (which was not in the quote i was giving when we arrived) Please avoid JC Penneys, they are horrible and not worth the discount. I had to spend more money and go elsewhere just to fix it. Trust me, i know.

    • Rae

I didn’t have that experience at all with my daughter’s hair. I made an appointment ahead of time, I let the jcp salon know it was my daughter’s first haircut, and they put her with someone experienced who did a beautiful job. The stylist even blow-dried and styled her hair for no cost. My daughter’s wavy hair had grown to the bottom of her back, and had never been even trimmed before we went. The stylist did such a beautiful job I ended up tipping her more than the haircut, my daughter couldn’t stop smiling, and that’s our go to stylist now. It may be a good idea to check reviews for a specific location.

Do y’all tip when getting your child’s haircut? And if so, how much? I’m talking like an easy cut/trim- TIA!

Our JCPennys wasnt uo to date on the boys hair cuts. We have one done there last year and his hair cut wasnt done correctly at all. It was a week before school and we were at the mall school clothes shopping. They were advertising $10 cuts so we decided to save time and get one there. It was a mistake. We had to go 2 weeks later and have it re cut at our normal salon. I told the girl at JCPennys he wanted a fohawk and she had no clue what that was! I had to show her a photo. So im sure they do good girl cuts but i dont think they did many boy cuts at our JCPennys.
