Attention Amazon Dash Button users!

If you have a physical Amazon Dash button that you currently use at home or at work, it will actually be discontinued effective August 31st, 2019.

What does this mean for all you dash button users?

You will not be able to use your physical Dash Button devices to reorder items; however, you can continue to order your products with the Free Virtual Dash Buttons or order through the Amazon mobile app and/or on Amazon.com.

Don’t toss the button! Amazon will recycle it for free!

Thanks to the Amazon Recycling Program, you can recycle your Dash Button device(s) at no cost to you. Just head here, click the “get started” button, enter the quantity of the Dash Buttons you wish to recycle and Amazon will generate a UPS shipping label. Then just print the label, follow the packaging guidelines and drop your buttons off at the nearest UPS location. Amazon covers all the costs associated with shipping and recycling your buttons!

What do you think about this news? Did any of you actually use a Dash Button regularly?

(Thanks, Tori and Amanda!)

This was still around? I never liked the idea of these.

  2. MA

Never used this. Preferred to go on the app and browse/purchase. I need to “see” what I’m buying.

    • Tammy

I agree, I always wanted to see the size, price etc before i ordered. Cool concept if you aren’t worried about price etc.

      • J

BINGO! I always thought it was such a scam to get people to purchase blindly.

  3. Laura

Never used it.. I feel that their prices fluctuate enough that it is worth looking each time just in case it is a better deal elsewhere. Also, it’s almost the same thing as subscribe and save since you are able to choose if you want the products then or another month.

    dummest idea ever…

    • me

      Dumbest

  5. Melissa

I was always afraid of my kids sitting there pushing the button and ordering a years worth of laundry detergent without my knowing.

    • Amanda

      Lol! My thoughts exactly!

  6. MamaBear

This is the laziest thing I’ve ever seen.

    • Jo28p

Nope, I can get lazier. With Alexa, you can just tell her to reorder whatever you want. I don’t have to get up to push a button 😂

      • Tracy

        HAHAHAHA!

  7. Dealzgurl

It never caught on with me either. Seemed like a waste of space.

  8. Ivan

Got one for free and never used it. Rare swing and a miss by Amazon.

  9. Erica

I never used these. I bought like 25 on prime day last year or the year before I think when they were .50, got the $5 credit for each, ordered once and then deactivated each one. That’s all it was good for IMO. The products and prices seemed to change without warning which I never liked and is probably what they were going for.

I collect these if anyone wants to get rid of it/them. ilovesavingg @ gmail

    • Deb

Just curious—why do you collect these? What about them appeals to you? I look forward to hearing your response.

      • Daniela

I wouldn’t send my dash button to anyone. It is linked to my amazon account and I doubt that can be wiped from the device. Sounds weird to me.

        • sherritierney

You can remove them from your account. I removed mine before I got rid of them.

      • Lo

I read on another site they can be re-wired to be a doorbell or smart gadget button to turn on lights, open garage door etc.

    • R

I just think it’s a novelty item: collectible and now no longer made. I believe you can wipe them but you could contact Amazon and find out.

      • Pat

I was wondering the same thing. Makes sense and after August 31st it will no longer be linked to anyone accounts.

  11. Jo28p

I never got one as I didn’t see much of a point but I have Alexa and I could just tell her to reorder whatever I wanted anyway! It seemed like those would just add to the clutter at my house.

  12. tipaye

I don’t own any of these, but I’d be upset if I paid for what is essentially a type of electronic that the company I bought from decided they are going to deactivate. It would be nice if they were offering some sort of compensation (besides recycling) for people who bought these and were expecting to be able to use them over the long haul.

    • R2

I wouldn’t feel *that* bad for anyone – the buttons sold for $5 and it came with a $5 promo credit toward your first purchase, so it was like getting the device for free. Assume Amazon did that so that people didn’t request buttons willy nilly with no intention of ever buying.

  13. Tracy Simmons

I never liked the idea, either, but, it could be a collector item one day.

  14. Rachel

Never wanted one bc I like to check and compare prices before I buy. Same reason I don’t keep a monthly subscribe and save. It’s just blind purchasing.

  15. Sara

I’m sad to see these go! Loved mine. I have one for razor refills and for tampons. Convenient and you get to pick the product you will have shipped so you know the price beforehand.

  16. Darla

Stupid. Didn’t you have to buy them? I have my phone in my hand at all times the day and it is just as easy to swipe the buy button

  17. Kitty

This was a dumb idea… plus who wants a button with a logo on their counter? It looks like of tacky to me.

  18. Katie

Really awful idea and I’m so shocked they didn’t die the same year they came out. I order so much online for my family yet I never found a use for these.
Recycling them…while wise, is likely just amazon wanting to look eco conscious but really they will end up in a landfill. Whole cities are ending their recycling programs these days..
