Christmas pickle ornaments on store shelf

While no one has been able to confirm the true origin of the Christmas Pickle Ornament, the long-standing and widely accepted tradition states that it should be hidden in the Christmas tree and the first person to find it on Christmas morning gets to open the first gift and receives a blessing of good luck.

This would make a fun stocking stuffer or White Elephant gift.

(Thanks, Karen!)

We do this and it’s so fun! My adult brother and husband couldn’t find it one year- It was the best lol

LOL! Thanks for commenting, Sonia. I’ll have to snag one this year for our tree!

I know it isn’t German. I lived there from 72-96 and go back every year to see my mother. LOL

We love this tradition. My kids love taking turns hiding it (even my 12 year old who’s too cool for everything had fun finding and taking turns hiding it in the tree last year).

      Hahaha! That is awesome, Lesli!

My family loves this tradition. Our family grew so large that we had to do the search in 30 second timed shifts, starting from elementary age to oldest adult. We had to add rules so our tree and precious ornaments weren’t damaged . . . Rule #1: if you knock an ornament off the tree, you are disqualified. lol I am really good at hiding it, too. For younger children I do make it easier for them to find, of course.
