This new cleaning product promises antibacterial “protection that lives on.”

Just as concerns about germs are growing, Procter & Gamble is introducing a new line of cleaning products that are made to protect surfaces against bacteria for up to 24 hours.

The new Microban 24 line of products promises to kill bacteria on surfaces for up to 24 after they’ve been sprayed, even after multiple touches. It was developed based on similar products that have been used in hospitals for some time.

According to a statement from P&G, most Americans believe that their current household antibacterial products kill bacteria after they apply it. Actually, bacteria can grow on surfaces every 20 minutes and survive for several days.

Microban 24 works against this growth by using a solution that provides ongoing protection against bacteria after it’s been applied to surfaces and allowed to air-dry. The solution then activates small amounts of bacterial-resistant ingredients over time.

“People deserve an antibacterial product that works as hard as they do to shield their home from the spread of bacteria,” said Martin Hettich, VP North America Home Care, P&G. “We want to push beyond the status quo and offer families a new sanitizing product that keeps working around the clock. Now, they can rest easier knowing our breakthrough technology is hard at work, even when they’re not cleaning.”

Microban product lineup

Microban 24 is available in three different forms – a multi-purpose spray cleaner, a bathroom spray cleaner, and a sanitizing spray disinfectant. These products are all offered in both Citrus and Fresh Scent.

The entire product lineup will be sold at major retailers nationwide as well as online. We found them available for purchase in-store at Walmart, where the multipurpose and bathroom sprays were priced at $3.94 and the sanitizing spray was priced at $5.94.

That’s timely. Good for P&G. Will look out for it in the stores.

It doesn’t kill viruses, which is what is in the news now. All “germs” are not the same.

    • Dawn1029

The bottle says it also kills viruses.

      • MrsG

        You can’t kill a virus. They aren’t alive. 🤷🏼‍♀️

        • Lissa

The technology is probably physical not chemical and explodes the viruses.

  3. Crystal

Looks good except that it shouldn’t be used on surfaces that may come in contact with food.

  4. Sandy

With all the news going on right now that is a very SMART company. I will buy it.

    • Lisa

Agreed, Sandy. Any additional protection one can take, the more the merrier. It’s that added layer.

Basically admitting at the same time that all their other products are useless after 20 minutes at the same time though

Ha! I thought the same thing!

Be careful with antibacterial stuff. It is soooo not good for our bodies. Causes antibiotic resistance and this is what causes super bugs! I wish we would crack down on these products. Just wash your hands a lot. Soon as you enter the house wash your hands, after you go into a store, wash your hands. Good old fashion soap and water with proper time to wash your hands goes a long way.

As a medical professional, I wholeheartedly agree with you on this. All of these claims to “protect” us from these illnesses are so misleading. And the fear and panic over one virus while another has killed (this season alone) many times the number of people while already having a vaccine people choose not to get…..such hypocrisy and mislead people.

      • StephB

You are exactly right, RNrightnow! The media does a good job of scaring everyone with info that isn’t true! 🙄 ✔️💯❗️

    • Kathleen

Yes I wish more people understood this and didn’t buy into the ‘antibacterial products’ hype 🙁

    • Mima

Totally agree with you! I refuse to use anything “antibacterial” just wash myhands and use common sense.

    • Lissa

New technology Physical vs. chemical. If it is a physical killing product. It will not create superbugs.

Target has a circle offer for these plus $15 gift card offer on $50 household purchase 😁

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the heads up! We’ll be sure to check it out!

Be sure to spell Procter and Gamble correctly! Procter with an “e”

  9. Momma of 7

I have 7 kids and while I wouldn’t want them to catch any bug or virus, I do think it’s healthy for them to be exposed to stuff. I’m not saying hey let’s go here where Corona virus was known to have been, but rather if we come across where someone has left their germs then so be it. There is no way anyone could keep their kid in a sterile environment 24-7. Being exposed to bacteria and viruses helps build your immune system. I taught my kids since they were little that after a trip out to the store or anywhere we always wash our hands first(or second) thing when we walk through our front door. We unload/put away groceries and then wash our hands. They don’t even need to be told to do it anymore. It comes natural now. They wash their hands very often as do I. If you’re worried about your skin drying out, use coconut oil like you would lotion.

Wish it was available. Can’t find except on eBay where they’re charging upwards of $50 a bottle.

  11. Cindy Brinker

It’d be nice if you could find this or any bacterial cleaning stuff in the stores. It’s getting ridiculous
