Walmart Grocery Pickup is helping those most at-risk!

Like many other retailers remaining open during the coronavirus crisis, Walmart has been adapting its policies for the safety of its members and associates.

The popular retailer has hired additional employees, launched special senior shopping hours, installed sneeze guard partitions, and even limited the number of people inside the store.

And now, select Walmart Grocery Pickup locations are offering a pickup hour for people most at-risk for COVID-19.

Each day from 7am to 8am, customers over the age of 60, first responders, customers with disabilities, pregnant women, caregivers of infants younger than 3 months and anyone designated high-risk by the CDC will be able to pop their trunk and receive their groceries contact-free – no need to sign for the order!

When shopping online, customers will see a new prompt on Walmart.com/grocery that displays the qualifications for selecting the slot listed as ‘At Risk Only’ and allows those who are eligible to opt in. While this time has been reserved for these groups, all other pickup times are open for their use as well.

Good luck getting a pick up time. It’s almost impossible around where I live.

    • Amber

Mine is out for 6-7 days lll

    • Bex

I’ve had success getting a slot early in the morning.. think they reset at midnight.

  2. Julie T

So happy to see this! I just checked and I have a local Walmart Neighborhood market that has these slots. Will definitely be taking advantage! Thank you.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yay! You’re so welcome, Julie T!

For elderly who needs groceries but doesn’t drive because of blindness. Could someone else drive them or pick up for them?

    • Carrie

If you order for them, you can go pick it up. I have not had to sign for or provide ID that last two times; however, I have signed in through the app so they know when I arrive.

    • J

      I’m sure you shouldn’t have a problem.

    • Tricia

Yes anyone can pick it up. I order all the time in my name and my husband picks it up with no issues. My parents picked up for me once too with no issues.

    • J.H.509

My mom can’t drive anymore and isn’t tech savvy so I will order and pickup for her. No issues so far. I just check in using the app. However slots are non-existent in my area right now.

This is so wonderful. I take a lot of immunosuppressants and am very scared to go to the grocery. Hopefully these extra times will help open up more slots. Instacart is so expensive in my area.

I completely understand, I have ulcerative colitis and also take immunosuppressant medication. It is very scary when you think about all that is going on right now and you are with your hands tied because for people like us it is not an option to go out. I live in Florida and as of today Walmart has not implemented those new policies, I have been relying on Instacart for my groceries but it does get very expensive at $14.99 per order and on top of that whatever you choose to tip. I have also been ordering from Whole Foods through Amazon for $4.99 per order. The only downside is that there are very few windows for delivery, you just have to keep on trying all day long until you find one. Hope this helps 😊

This is a great concept but in these times it’s proven difficult. Understandably they can not keep up with the supply and demand! Nonetheless, thankful for what I am able to get. 4. Days wait time for me. The delivery arrived today…4 substitutes and 19 items out of stock! 😬

    • J

Most stores are getting new inventory when their trucks arrive Mondays and Tuesdays. Kroger also offers free pick up.

  6. J

Try looking for a new day & time for pick up starting anytime after midnight. It’s the only way lately that I’m able to find & reserve my order.

  7. Tori

I never had any issues doing Walmart pickup until today (I’ve used it 3x). I received an email 3 hours before my pickup time, telling me that my entire order was cancelled. The reason stated was unusually high demand. The next date I could get is next Monday, so fingers crossed.

I love this being a first responder family. We have had a really hard time with any pick ups in our area and it’s the only way I shopped before all this. Haven’t been able to since 😩 My thing is it will probably get abused really quickly with people just selecting it anyway but it’s nice of Walmart to try 👍🏻

  9. Tricia

I love that they included first responders in this. My husband is high risk having hypertension and other medical issues but he refuses to go shopping during those special hours because he’s embarrassed and afraid he can’t give proof. I’m glad that since he is a first responder he can do this without feeling embarrassed.

    • J

Everything is done online, they should not ask for proof of your disability. It sounds like it’s based on the “honor system”, because otherwise a person would have to be really low to choose this time without qualifying. I’ve even had family pick up my order & never had a problem. Just make sure you CHECK IN once they send you the notification that your order is ready for pick up, so your order will be ready once you arrive & therefore cuts down on your wait time.

      • Tricia

        Ok thanks 🙂

  10. Tami

My parents are high risk and I don’t see anywhere where it asks and offers other times

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

It says select locations so I’m wondering if it’s not offered at yours, yet.

  11. AmandaJ

As a mother of a child who recently had a heart transplant and has just about zero immune system, I appreciate being included in this.

  12. Sarah

Their pick up has been a mess the last few times I’ve tried. Last week I finally got a spot for a week out. Today I waited (along with several other people) an hour and a half after they said it was ready pick up. More than half of it was substituted or unavailable which I expected. Employees not wearing gloves or masks either which I thought was odd. I would suggest going with delivery instead if you can.

  13. Bob

I live in the largest city with a Walmart in my area and smaller towns around me with Walmart’s offer pick up but not mine looks like at risk people in my area just have to die.

  14. Kimberann1

In my area a lot of people are able to place pick up orders and then they are getting canceled days after they place the order.
