Thank you for bringing awareness to the dwindling monarch population, which is endangered. My daughter and I raise monarch caterpillars in the summer and we take such delight in watching them grow, then create a chrysallis, then emerge as butterflies. It is quite a remarkable process to watch. We have done this the last 5 years and will continue to do so 🙂

    • A

That’s wonderful! Can you please share the link where you buy them?

      • GisMom

We live in Wisconsin where monarchs solely lay eggs on, and only eat, milkweed which grows heartily here. My daughter and I go around looking at milkweed plants and find caterpillars which we then raise at home. If you Google milkweed, you’ll probably find some where you live. Hope that helps!

    • danaehoobler

Yes, where do you get them?? We have have raised punk lady butterflies many times. Would love to be help with the Monarchs!

    • Tonya Holley

We grow and release Monarchs in WI too! We have hatched 5 as of today and have found a handful more eggs. If you haven’t started looking for them yet, now is the time! 🧡

      • GisMom

Toyna, that is awesome! We live in eastern WI and have only spotted a few monarchs so far and no caterpillars, yet. We will keep looking 🙂 So grateful for your monarch rescuing efforts! Thank you!

I also did this when my kids were younger and it was so much fun to watch the cycle of life! Some tips… grow milkweed in your yard. You have no idea how much the larger caterpillars eat! Thats usually how you get your first eggs, when you find a plant. Join a discussion board so you can see how people raise them. Gardenweb/houzz has a great board to get info. Best of luck and have fun!

Thanks for sharing. I live down the street from one of the last monarch butterfly migration sites. Unfortunately soon that area will be townhomes and hotels. But get this… they are still going to name the new development Monarch Bay.

    • grr

Oh that is so sad 🙁

I also have been raising Monarchs butterflies. For anyone buying milkweed plants from a retail location, verify that they have not been treated with pesticides. Any caterpillars eating the leaves of a treated plant will be killed.

    • GisMom

That is so sad! Especially hearing the importance of it as a migration site 🙁

Is it bringing anyone else to a broken link after submitting information instead of confirmation page?

    • pjane

      Not me.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hmm, I did not see that after submitting my information. Maybe try again in a different browser. Hoping this helps!

      • mrswagley

Thanks. I tried two different browsers last night with same result. Maybe it was some weird issue but it worked today!!

        • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Woohoo! You’re welcome! SO glad it worked for you today!

  10. Michelle F.

Thanks, this is cool! After submitting, mine didn’t go to a confirmation page. But I did receive an email from the NWF confirming, just within minutes.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

That’s great to hear! You’re so welcome, Michelle F!
