The one closed near me, but seldom printed up the freebies. The cashiers said”there was nothing they could do.” Very quickly became returns!

    • SueJo

There’s 5 Walgreens in my small town. There use to be 6 until one recently closed. But I hear ya, sometimes the deals work without a hitch and sometimes they don’t. The inconsistency with drug store deals/stores is disappointing.

  2. Mendy

Just had the same happened to me. I just gave up on Walgreens in store. Have had no trouble redeeming coupons, or points online though. So there’s that.

  3. Lois Schultz

I tried to buy Dove Body wash with B1G1 and they wouldn’t take it. Said because Dove is on sale this week coupon cannot be used until next week when Dove is not on sale. Made no sense to me.

    • annie

first off, you can always use a coupon on any item that is on sale. (period) I swear walgreens staff makes up stuff.
but I got one better to tell.
a couple days ago, I also went to use the dove coupon, that came out in Sundays paper. so that was 2 days ago, as the cashier, which was the manager, rang me up, she precedes to tell me , I can’t use the coupon before 6/21. that what the message was on the register, (I did see it myself on the digital screen)
the coupon has no start date and only has an expiration date of July 4, 2020. I repeatedly told her no where on the coupon does it state this.
Botton line, she refused my coupon. this got me thinking, is walgreens manipulating the coupons. as June 21st is sunday, the start of a new ad. I have had this same message pop up on the register, telling me I can’t use this coupon before such and such date. what is going on with walgreens?

      • queen62

Sounds like a call to the corporate office is needed. You can’t tell a customer when a coupon can be used.

Now isn’t that interesting? I’ve been mostly ordering online so I don’t have anything to compare to. Oh will say that on Senior Day an amazing variety of things are on sale for a penny under the usual price so the Senior Discount doesn’t apply. There are still good buys to be had so I keep coming back.

        • Dianr

I always tell the cashier to charge me full price and then I get the senior discount. I also call customer service when the store tells me I can’t use a coupon.

      • SueJo

Really, what is the big deal about Walgreens not wanting to take valid manufacturer’s coupons? They get reimbursed for these. It is not coming out of Walgreens or the cashier’s pocket. So if it’s the manufacturer’s coupon that is bringing the customer into the store, it’s a win for Walgreens and the customer. I really don’t get why they treat couponers so poorly.

        • patricialavenz-goff

Walmart stopped taking paper coupons because they don’t like dealing with the coupons and waiting to get paid or something the clerk told me. They want people to use Ibotta instead of paper coupons.

          • Becky

My Walmart in Arkansas still uses printable coupons.

      • Mel

@annie – I had the same issue when I tried using a Kikkoman coupon at my local grocery store a while back. At that time, I was getting my RMN insert in the junk mail the Thursday before they’d come in the Sunday paper. So there was a 1 day Saturday sale, and the Kikkoman soy sauces were on sale $1. I grabbed a bottle, thinking it’d be free after the coupon. But nope, the coupon beeped and an alert came on the cashier’s register screen that said something like invalid start date. I told the cashier the coupon came in the mail, but she couldn’t override it. The manager explained that the coupons that come in the Sunday paper, have a start date embedded in the data-bar. And some brands have it set as a perimeter when scanned to not accept if used before the insert issuance date!! I thought he was full of it, but sure enough the same thing happened a few wks later. Another Kikkoman coupon comes out and I couldn’t use it (I shopped on a Friday, got a stir fry sauce that was on sale $2.00). But it did scan fine when I went back a few days later!! Crazy

        • annie

This is interesting Mel…. that the manager says the coupon has an embedded start date. so my question to them is, how we as consumers are we supposed to know this beforehand, we aren’t clairvoyant. how do we consumers, know what the start date will be?
I’m going to call unilever tomorrow and get their scoop on this. something isn’t right here.
I will come back and post the answer I get from dove brands Unilever.

          • annie

ok, this is being escalated to a higher up person at unilever, as of now , the lady I talked to says, she never heard of embedded coupons start date. she says that. if it’s not written in the body of the coupon, like one per purchase etc, or the start date, then the coupon is valid til the expiration date.
I will follow up again. stay tuned. lol

            • Mel

I found this article, and it does say that the start date can be included in the barcode as an optional field.
And you’re correct in that we, as consumers, don’t know theres a ‘start’ date, unless its printed on the coupon. I have seen that a few times. But when I clip a coupon, I’m not looking at the insert date to see if I can use it!

              https://www.barcode.graphics/education-coupon-barcodes/

            • annie

hi, I finally got a response from unilever, their answer, plain and simple, they never heard of an embedded coupon with a start date for their coupons, they told me this is an issue at the store level (walgreens). interesting enough, i got to use the coupon before the 6/21 date at target with no issues.

    • jos

They told me that too when I tried an IcyHot deal a few weeks ago. They were BOGO50% and I tried using two different coupons and they would only allow one coupon because “they were on sale.” Like, how does that make sense!?!

  4. FSUGAL

Today 6/21 new ad; my Walgreens insisted only the 18 ct Bud Lite, Lite, Coors & Budweiser “beer” was $12.99 (not the 12 pack Seltzers) and came with a $5 rebate. However, the 12 pack of Bud Lite Seltzers I purchased did print out an $8 rebate form which I have already submitted online. You can have credit your Rewards card “wallet” or receive a Prepaid plastic card. The 12 pk of Seltzer was $15.99, so still a pretty decent deal; after rebate $7.99. On a side-note, my Publix grocery store (Florida) is running a buy one/get one free deal on the Bud Lite Seltzer 12 pk – ($16.99) no coupons or rebates needed making them $8.50 each.

    • Stacy F (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Thanks for these tips, FSUgal!

  5. Pam

I’m unsure how to unlock the mystery discount. I tried the “unlock” text but it wasn’t valid. I am a rewards member.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh darn! Maybe try once more. When I send that text I get “Coupon Clipped” with details and a link to click through. Hoping it works for you soon!

    • Pam Bennett

Can someone help me with that?

      • Pam

Whoops! I did not see your response until after I sent the last note and the page refreshed. Thanks.

  6. Pam

    Thank you!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      You’re welcome, Pam!

  7. chelsie14

Where can I find the $2/1 pampers diaper/easy up coupon? I have looking in the Walgreens app as well as trying to eclip from the coupons.com app and neither have it?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Darn! It seems that offer is gone. Thanks for the heads up!
