Heads up Target shoppers!

It is probably no surprise that Black Friday 2020 is going to look a bit different this year!

Due to Coronavirus worries, Target is the latest large retailer to announce they will be closing their doors this Thanksgiving Day.

Target CEO Brian Cornell stated in a Target press release Monday morning “This year more than ever, a joyful holiday will be inseparable from a safe one, and we’re continuing to adjust our plans to deliver ease, value and the joy of the season in a way that only Target can.”

Target also stated that they will begin their holiday shopping promotions in October offering their lowest prices of the year on items in stores and online in order to stretch out deals and avert larger crowds from gathering in stores during the holiday season.

This news is coming just days after Walmart revealed plans to close its stores on Thanksgiving Day as well.

      Sent you one:)

I have many & am a coupon fairy when I shop in the store. Simply sign up online or go into the store & they will be sent often through mail or email. Don’t throw expired coupons away bc the stores both Harmon & BB&B take them.

when you think about the way our culture/society is now a days, it’s kinda sad that it took a pandemic for a major company to see the importance of having a holiday off with family lol.

    • Steph

      Exactly!!! About time!!!!!

    • Casey

Agreed. More time with family less about money.

    • Flgrl017

To be honest it still ruins the holiday when you have to go in super early on BlAck Friday. When I worked retail stores weren’t opening on Thanksgiving Day, and the norm was more 2am. To be honest I would have preferred to eat Thanksgiving and go on to work at 5pm on the holiday vs getting up at 2 am on Black Friday. Plus they get holiday pay.

Wonder if because Walmart announced they would close for thanksgiving that Target decided they wouldn’t lose money and it would look bad if they didn’t 🤷‍♀️

    I’m thrilled they’re closed!

All businesses should be closed on holidays except gas stations. This country has lost sight of what is important. And although some may think the best deal is important those retail workers might argue otherwise. (I’m not a retail worker)

    • C

I’m curious why you think gas stations should be open? There are always going to be people that have to work on a holiday, police, fire, military, hotel workers, hospital workers, some pharmacies, workers at Disney and Universal and the list could go on. It’s not ideal, but families for decades have learned to make the best of it and keep sight of what is important.

    • Qvcnut

Not that hard to get gas on Wednesday.

      • Katie

Sometimes you need more than one tank of gas to get where you’re going, especially if you’re traveling far to see family.

        • Qvcnut

If you know the gas station will be closed then you plan accordingly. I think all businesses should close for the holiday. Why should a gas attendant miss dinner with his family do you can see yours?

          • Ashley

Why should I, as a labor & delivery nurse, miss dinner with my family?

Maybe everyone should do their family planning to avoid delivery on the holidays, too. 🙃

      • snpy496

It’s easy to forget to get gas the day before too!!!

  7. Kristin

Great news, but you know they are only doing this because they figure there won’t be a typical Black Friday like years past.

    • DebJ

Absolutely! They don’t care about their employees having the day off. I know. My daughter’s fiancé worked there and was treated like crap.

      • Tia in FL

Yep, these stores closing this year is not impressive….let’s see what happens in 2021.

  8. Scott S

Happy to see it go back to the way it once was. It allows the employees to have a day with their families before they have to deal with a solid month of madness.

  9. Nkiser

    Good as it should be

  10. Sue

    YAH!

  11. Evie

When I was growing up all stores were closed holidays and sundays.
I have noticed when I worked in stores it is always the bitter, problem customers who shop on holidays.
Maybe people should spend more time with their families. If that is not possible maybe read a book. I bet the stores are not making the money to pay labor or utilities on most days.

  12. Aleshia

I’m happy that they are closed for Thanksgiving day, but kind of curious if they still plan to do a black Friday sale? Will they open at midnight or later in the morning? I’m curious if they are doing away with black Friday all together this year to avoid crowds, or what?

  13. Casey

With Covid we don’t need the crowds. Should be this way with all stores. More time with family and less about money.

  14. Joyce

Totally off topic – anyone know how a Walgreens generated coupon of 5000 points back on $20 spent works? Before or after coupons and does manufacturer vs. Walgreens coupon make a difference? Thanks

    • Mel

It is based *after* any Walgreens coupons have been deducted. Manuf coupons don’t matter. I would not use points as payment either as that will nullify earning points.

      • Joyce

        Thank you so much!

Target is a major disappointment since corporate banned Shop With A Cop program in their stores for Christmas in 2020. Any Hip2Save fans willing to try and change this decision? So many families need this program for their children to have a nice Christmas! Please let them know.

What is the Shop with a Cop program?

  16. Csandst1

So glad Target will be closed. I hope it becomes a corporate policy.

  17. Sunflower

Many retailers start their sales online before Black Friday anyway. I enjoy getting the deals online while earning something back from Rakuten or BeFrugal.

    • PrincessMom

Agreed, I do most of my holiday shopping online. I do head out for a bit on Black Friday, though, just for the excitement of it 😂

  18. Monique

Everywhere should be closed unless you’re a hospital or cop and fire dept including hip2save…

  19. queen62

Most stores will follow due to Covid and crowds. They won’t be able to enforce mask and limit the amount of shoppers in the store at a time. Family first. Some people might still be unemployed for the holidays. Stay safe and stay healthy.

  20. Teres

I hope this is something they continue, all stores should be closed on major holidays, otherwise what is the difference between these days and any other? We need to go back to how it used to be…it was better. And as people have mentioned, you can shop online at home.

    im glad
