Normally, I’d be stocking up but this whole pandemic has changed all that. My kids will be going to school on a hybrid schedule, but no eating lunch at school. They will be done by 12:30 on the days they go! So much for the new bento boxes….haha!🥴

I also bought a bento box at the beginning of the pandemic thinking surely they’d go back in the Fall. No dice. We are homeschooling but my kiddo is still super excited to pack herself a lunch to eat at home. 🤣

That is so cute, lol. It’s like the audible commercial where the lady leaves home for her “commute” back home to work just so she can listen to audible.

OT: how do you clean/disinfect your kids’ lunch bag during this covid era? Thanks.

I always make sure I get lunch boxes that are insulated so they have that slick inside. I wipe that down daily, and on the weekends I turn it inside out and give it a good scrub with soap and hot water. I suppose I’ll have to start doing the same to the outside and maybe weekly tossing it in the washing machine (maybe in a laundry bag to keep the zipper from snagging on anything)

My school is going back full time or online option.

Same for us. Brick or Click. They will eat in the classroom.

Brick or Click – I don’t know if you or your school district came up with that but it’s clever! 🙂

Our school is doing the same, plus they’ve always offered Virtual School (virtual school is self-taught, self-paced; this year’s online option is taught real-time via Zoom and allows for easier integration back into F2F learning once the family is ready.)
They’re not eating in the classrooms but they’ve created a new, separate lunch room for the middle school students (it’s a K-8 school) so they can spread the students out and sit them on only one side of the tables. Each cafeteria also has adjacent outdoor eating areas (although in Florida I doubt those will be pleasant for a couple months…)
They just did a “Virtual Open House” and I loved it. The principal, assistant principals and teachers all recorded short videos that were posted online. It was so much easier (no rushing to the school after work), more organized (since the teachers all pre-recorded the messages every student got the same information) and less awkward. I was really impressed with how well the teachers did on the videos – I would hate to have to do one myself.
I know this has been a difficult year – more so for some than others – but there are a few things that have changed for the better that I hope continue. (Necessity is the mother of invention or some such, right?). Allowing parents to participate in school meetings, ceremonies and events virtually is a HUGE help to working parents who are always trying to balance being there for their kids with being a good employee, especially when both parents work traditional 9-5ish schedules. Even my daugher’s theater-based summer came recorded the week-end performances and emailed them parents. When we signed her up pre-pandemic I was already feeling bad that it would be a struggle to make sure that at least one parent or grandparents was there for her Friday/2:30pm performance every week .
