Pinkglow Pineapple on cutting board

This is one pineapple you won’t find at any grocery store!

After 16 years in the making, Del Monte has released a very special new pineapple! While it looks like a typical pineapple from the outside, the Pinkglow Pineapple is completely pink on the inside.

The pretty color of this fruit is due to the natural pigment lycopene, which gives other produce like tomatoes and watermelon their red color. The Pinkglow Pineapples are also said to have a unique taste, with notes of cotton candy, more sweetness, and less acidity than traditional pineapples.

The one-of-a-kind Pinkglow Pineapple is grown only in the south-central region of the Costa Rican jungle, which has the exact right soil and climate needed for this variety for fruit. They aren’t sold in stores anywhere in the US, so the only way to get one is by shelling out $49 to have one shipped directly to your home. 😱

Your Pinkglow Pineapple will be packaged beautifully and guaranteed to arrive fresh, but note that it will arrive without its crown. They’re harvested this way because the tops are cut off and replanted to grow the next batch of pink pineapples.

If we had a dollar for every time we cut into a pineapple and were disappointed that it wasn’t pink… well, it still wouldn’t be enough to cover the cost of this beauty. But if you’re super committed to the dreamy pink vibe of your Instagram feed or looking to create a really memorable fruit tray, then the Pinkglow Pineapple may be just what you’re looking for!

Think of the possibilities a pink pineapple would bring to your kitchen! Pink Dole Whips, Pinka-Coladas, and monochromatic ham and pineapple all come to mind. If you’re looking for more recipe ideas, Dole has them for you over on PinkGlowPineapple.com.

wow cute but kinda pricey for a pineapple

  2. Emily

I have to talk myself out of this. It’s so pretty, but so expensive for a fruit.

  3. Erika V

I would love to try one but not for $50. I had to pass on that price.

  4. ToriSC

    It just looks wrong!

  5. Kathleen

I’m wondering if it’s GMO or naturally hybridized?

    • Bonnie

It is GMO. How do you think the lycopene got in there? ๐Ÿ™‚

I wondered the same thing and checked Del Monte’s web site, which doesn’t specify, but a little more searching got me the answer. Fine for people who don’t mind, but I wish the company was more upfront about it.

      It is rather pretty, anyway!

  6. Melissa

No. It looks like ham lol

    • iamkris10

that is EXACTLY what i thought. i guess it’d be fine for an April Fool’s prank or something.

    • Sindhu

Totally!! looks like meat rather than sweet (pineapple) especially when cut in circles. Other cuts are looking better (like watermelon) but either ways, first I won’t buy it, 2nd in case I have to buy I won’t spend more than what a normal pineapple costs.

    • mrswagley

I didn’t like the look either. Lol

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

LOL! I was thinking the same thing!

  7. growingbhoomi

    NEVER

  8. Mommyx6

    No gross! GMO?

  9. Emi

I saw it on tv this morning. They cut it and it was totally pink! They said it tasted sweet but not crazy sweet. I like companies that keep innovating, and this is a unique way for a pineapple to be different. I love pineapple but this one is too expensive for me

Although we do enjoys different fruit or veggie experience, this seems overrated. The ones pictured here look different than what’s advertised on the website. No way am I shelling out $50 for any pineapple.
