Watch out Amazon Prime – Walmart is about to give you a serious run for your money!

Walmart is expanding its Walmart+ program by removing the $35 shipping minimum for members who place orders!

For $98 per year or just $12.95 per month, Walmart+ members already enjoy benefits like unlimited FREE grocery delivery, the use of Scan & Go in the Walmart app for faster in-store shopping, and discounts on fuel at nearly 2,000 gas stations, including Sam’s Club!

Beginning December 4th, Walmart+ members will receive free next-day and two-day shipping on items shipped by Walmart without having to meet a minimum shipping threshold. Walmart has reassured customers in a statement that its everyday low prices will remain the same. Delivery from Walmart stores on items like groceries will still require a $35 minimum, but the delivery fee is waived for Walmart+ members.

Customers have been clear – they want this benefit. Being able to toss an item into your cart, regardless of the total, and check out right away lets them knock little things off their to-do list in no time. – Janey Whiteside, Chief Customer Officer of Walmart

If you’ve been thinking about joining Walmart+, this new benefit is really appealing, especially when paired with free unlimited grocery deliveries and the program’s other perks. A Walmart+ membership costs $21 less than an Amazon Prime membership, and you can’t get fresh, refrigerated, or frozen groceries delivered from Amazon unless you live near a Whole Foods!

Some Hip2Save Team members use Walmart+, and they love it.

I have Walmart+ and LOVE it. I get all of my groceries delivered to my home multiple times a month. I can even get small orders of $35+ delivered. ALSO, I use it to deliver some groceries to my son from a Walmart near his college in another state. It’s a game-changer! – Michelle

I’ve used this SO many times during the pandemic for pretty much weekly grocery deliveries. I’ve also used it to send groceries to others. When I have to go in the store, I use the Scan and Go feature. You can scan your purchases, go to self-checkout, scan the code on the app, and you’re done! Love, love, LOVE this service – it’s well worth the $98 a year! – Paige

I’ve had a Walmart Grocery Unlimited membership since March, and it automatically rolled over to Walmart+ when the program launched in September. I get groceries delivered once or twice a week, so my membership has paid for itself many times over. In fact, my Walmart+ account tracks how much time and money my membership is saving me, and I’ve saved $447 in grocery delivery fees and fuel discounts in about 8 months! Best of all, I haven’t had to go inside a Walmart since March, which has saved me an estimated 45 hours of time! I will DEFINITELY be renewing this membership when it expires! – Jenna

Want to give Walmart+ a try? You can head on over here to learn more or to sign up for a membership. Walmart+ costs $98 a year or $12.95 a month, and it includes a FREE 15-day free trial period so you can take all the features for a test-drive before committing to a subscription. Happy shopping!

This is wonderful news! I can’t wait. That $35 limit drives me crazy when I just need something small and I can’t find anything else in stock and actually available for shipping that I can stock up on to hit that limit.

  2. Joy

Would love to do this but this and Amazon gets pricey

  3. Pam

Great news! While not a regular Walmart shopper, I signed up for this service in September due to Covid. Have been having grocery delivery once or twice a week. It’s a great value compared to delivery fees charged by other grocery stores in my area. This is an added bonus!

  4. IB

I will wait and see if WM can really do 1-2 day delivery. Their prices are usually the same as Amazon, so I would drop Prime for this, especially since it includes groceries.

  5. grandmat57

We do have the grocery delivery. Remember you are expected to tip your delivery person on the order.

Also, Ibotta has $1 cashback right now if you sign up for the free trial of Walmart+. The benefits in my area are only scan and go and one gas station so I knew I wasn’t going to keep it anyway but I went ahead and signed up, received my $1 Ibotta credit the next day, and then immediately cancelled. A free buck!

Tried their free trial so I could get the “free” grocery delivery (not really free you still have to tip). One out of three orders were cancelled at the last minute. One was missing a few things. And one had random substitutions that hadn’t been listed on my receipt, had several expensive things missing, was delivered 4 hours late, and when I called to ask about it was yelled at rudely and then hung up on. Walmart has a long way to go if they ever truly want to compete with Amazon. Obviously I did not continue the subscription after the free trial.

I had a very similar experience. Gave them two chances and they failed on both attempts. I was supposed to get a grocery order last night between 7-8. Around 7:30 I checked to see what was going on with the order and it was listed as being “shopped”. I contacted Walmart through their chat after not receiving anything after 8 and was told the driver canceled a few minutes ago and they would need to contact the store. I told them just to cancel and I’m done with them.

Has anyone tried using this for gas? There are no Walmart or Murphy stations where I live, we only have Sam’s Club which I do go to however it says you save 5 cents at Walmart or Murphy’s stations and you get member’s prices for Sam’s Club.
So there isn’t an additional discount when you fuel at Sam’s Club then?

    • Heather

You cannot purchase gas at Sams club unless you’re a member. OR have Walmart + membership, so while I have not tried it, I would say there is no additional discount at Sams since it’s a club-based gas station anyways.

      • DawnPuhalsky

Our sams is still by far the cheapest gas around without any additional discounts. It was $1.59 on monday while it was $1.89 everywhere else around us. Live near Cleveland, OH.

  9. Momof3girls

None of the Wal-Mart’s near me are close enough for delivery😞.

    • LisaK

      Same for me.

    • Chantel

I have a Walmart 5 minutes down the street I live on but my address is not eligible. Probably because I live in Alaska to be fair. But I was going to buy a membership for my uncle who lives in Missouri and his address isn’t eligible either. I guess you have to live in a big city or a suburb. Bad business for them if they are trying to compete with Amazon.

  10. Sherry

I am a Prime fan. I can watch and stream shows from the prime channel and I get Kindle books for free as part of my Prims membership. No thanks Walmart.

    • Sherry

      Prime not Prims

    • Erica

I am too! I use Amazon for everything, books, music, photos, audible, business, you name it so even with this new service I cannot give up my Prime.

  11. Tia in FL

I’d pay a small fee just to be able to scan and go! My Sam’s Club doesn’t have a gas station and I don’t live too far from an Amazon warehouse and often receive orders the same day. What carrier does Walmart use for next-day? I wonder if they’ll be getting their own delivery service as well at some point.

  12. Kristen

I tried it and they will only ship groceries from the Neighborhood Market, even though there is a Super Walmart just a half mile away. The selection isn’t as good and therefore I canceled. If they would be willing to deliver from Super Walmart, I’d love to sign up again.

  13. Dexcer

They cant beat amazons value At w+ you still have to give tip so basically you still have to pay every delivery Plus amazon have music and video streaming with it

  14. Linda

I love this service from Walmart, and I am delighted they are dropping the $35 minimum. I have ordered groceries – used to be for pickup, but now for delivery – almost once a week as I do not want to go into the store. I have had excellent service and products. They always email with substitutes and you can accept, or not,, and I have found that usually the substitutes are larger, or higher priced items, with no additional cost to me. I have had a couple of items that were not quite right ( bruised bananas ) and I called and received an instant credit for the item, no questions asked. Cannot wait to use the scan and go when I can go back into a store!

    • Pam

Totally agree with you Linda about the grocery delivery! I’ve had great service. Seems that might vary with different stores/areas. All supermarkets near (Meijer, Kroger) charge $9.95 delivery fee+tip. It’s a great savings if you use it often for grocery delivery.

  15. Tricia

Woohoo!!! I’ve had Walmart+ for a few months for groceries and was gonna cancel but now it’s really worth keeping.

  16. Laura

This is a GAMECHANGER. So many times I have found things I want and need quickly at Walmart but I can’t just add items to my cart to meet the $35 minimum. I love this!!!

  17. Michelle

I wonder when this change will take effect, today is December 4th, I just signed up and it still charges for delivery on orders and Walmart Grocery orders still require a $35 minimum even though it says my account has unlimited free delivery….

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hmm, maybe log out and back in again OR try a different browser. If still having issues, you could contact customer service for help. Hoping it works for you soon!
