Costco is adding additional special shopping hours for vulnerable shoppers!

In an effort to make shopping a little safer for vulnerable shoppers, many stores have been offering special shopping hours for senior citizens. Costco has decided to increase the frequency of its special shopping hours to Monday-Friday from 9 am to 10 am. Previously these hours were Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9 am to 10 am.

These special hours are set aside for those ages 60 and older and for those with disabilities or who are immunocompromised.

As the number of Coronavirus cases continues to rise, Costco has decided to increase the number of special hours to allow vulnerable shoppers a chance to get what they need in the safest environment possible.

Costco is still offering priority access for healthcare workers and first responders to move to the front of the line at any time, as well as still requiring face coverings in order to enter the store.

How does costco know if one is immuncompromised? Also does this apply to pregnant women?

preexisting conditions. for example, i have an actual autoimmune disease, which makes me more at risk, as my body is constantly fight a disease i already have. so my white blood count is always off, making it more difficult to fight off infections or a virus.

I don’t think Costco is asking for proof, but they are expressing to people as they enter that it is special hours for certain members only. I would hope people would be honest, for these special needs sake. I personally have no reason I need to shop during these times and am thankful to not be in a compromised position during this difficult health situation. I would never attempt to shop during these designated times because if someone needs to be out for these special hours they should be able to shop with as limited risk as possible. My grandparents are high risk but lucky enough to have me and my mom to go shopping for them, not everyone high risk is so fortune.

I’m with you on this. I am not immunocompromised and I am so thankful to God that I wouldn’t act as if I were. I wouldn’t want to put this in the universe. I wish more people had moral compasses as it pertains to restrictions. I also wish everyone well.

I always wonder if this includes asthma? I always wonder that with Kohl’s too. I hardly ever shop anymore because my baby and I have asthma but I also feel weird utilizing these special hours.

I would say it does. I have asthma too and will take advantage of this new schedule.

My dad is 85 and in the last year he has had a double bypass and is now undergoing radiation treatments for skin cancer that took hold under the skin and required extensive surgery along with a skin graft to close the wound. He loves his weekly trips to Costco and we all worry about him being around so many people. This will be awesome for him.

Not mine. They started out a few months ago allowing only 60+ but then now everybody gets in at 9am or before. It even states that there are special senior hours but they are not honoring it whatsoever. I as a senior go early just to avoid the big later crowds however everyone is allowed in regardless at 9am everyday. My Costco is in Clovis CA.
