This book is described as C. S. Lewis’s classic confession of near-despair and rediscovered faith while probing the issues of life, death, and hope in the midst of the loss of his beloved wife, Joy.

This book has received some powerful reviews…
This book was recommended to me by friends who learned I had lost my wife, also named Joy, 9 months ago as of this writing. My path was, of course, different than Lewis’s, but remarkably similar. It’s strangely comforting to know I’m not alone in my thoughts and thoughtlessness. I believe this book should be a part of any grieving spouse’s must-read list, as the insightful essence of the book mirrors those of Lewis’s other writings.
You don’t have to be in the throes of grieving a loss to read this book, but if you are, you will be comforted by Lewis’s words. Lewis’s anguish is raw, and his honesty is rarely encountered in books or in the people in your life, and this honesty is what is ultimately comforting. Yes, we have all been here, more than once. And will be again. This level of rawness is sorely needed.
Here is an honest account of a man grieving the loss of his beloved wife. It is a vivid picture of what occurs to the soul when loss and disappointment mix with something permanent in this world. Though there isn’t the typical faith declaration, faith fills each word.
