More Walgreens

woman pointing to personal care products on a counter

I’m shopping Walgreens this week for some awesome deals!

Through September 18th, Walgreens is offering big savings on personal care items, laundry detergent, and more! Even better, there’s a variety of digital coupons available for even more savings.

You can easily order online and choose in-store pickup to avoid shipping charges! There is a $10 minimum pickup charge but with the scenarios below you’ll meet that threshold!

Note that the scenario below includes one offer for Register Rewards so you’ll need to pickup your order to grab the Register Rewards, it won’t be available if you have the order shipped to your home. I’ve found that going in to grab the order rather than having it brought out to your car usually guarantees you’ll get the Register Rewards.

two tubes of Colgate toothpaste

Plus, make sure to check your account for a “Booster” coupon that offers $5 in Walgreens Cash Rewards when you spend $20! Your offer may vary a little but they are usually close to the same amount for everyone. You’ll want to make sure you have that clipped before you order so you can score those extra savings!

And, keep in mind that while this is the exact scenario that I ordered, you can mix and match products or deals to best suit your family! If you feel like you’re already stocked up on toothpaste for a lifetime, you could also consider donating it. The school my daughter attends has a hygiene closet and that’s where I’ll be sending some of these items!

Hip Tip: It’s easiest to clip the coupons by heading to the item you’re going to purchase and clipping it right on the product page! You can also clip coupons during checkout and it will even let you know if there’s a coupon available!

Shopping Walgreens online has been the absolute easiest way for me to score deals and even though they’ve added a minimum pickup threshold, I’ve found that I can just stack a few deal scenarios and still pick up my order. This is the very FIRST time that I’ve placed an order for so many items and have had every single one fulfilled, so while it may be frustrating when your order gets canceled or items are substituted, just know that it doesn’t always happen.

Plus, keep in mind that Walgreens does offer substitutions and they will honor coupons and offers if you choose to have your items substituted! Also, I know that looking at the huge list of coupons to clip may be daunting and time-consuming, but it’s super simple to clip the coupon while you’re adding items to your cart!

Where would you find if you have the booster coupon?

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hi there! Be sure to head to the coupons section when logged in to your account. I find the booster coupon to be the first listed there. It can vary by account. Hoping this helps!

      • Samantha

I have it but can’t tell if it’s applied. How do you know if the booster is applied?

        • Brenda

I’m wondering the same, it doesn’t show it’s applied in the list

          • Chelsey (Hip Sidekick)

Hey! If it shows that you’ve clipped the booster coupon then you can check to see if it applies by checking your ‘Estimated Walgreens Cash Rewards’ which show in your cart below the payment options. If you’re following the exact scenario above then you’ll see $14 in estimated rewards because you’ll have $5 from the booster, $5 from Garnier and $4 from Colgate.

You can also just test it by adding at least $20 to your cart and making sure it shows $5 in estimated rewards. It won’t show up under the prom codes and coupons section. Hope that helps!

            • Brenda

              Thank you

Can someone explain the difference between Walgreens cash and register rewards?

    • Brenda

The walgreens cash goes into your account and has a long expiration date and the register rewards are printed out with your receipt and is only good for 2 weeks

      • Hallie

Do you know if register rewards print with a pick up order?

I get them in Illinois. My daughter does in Kentucky. Some people have reported they have trouble. If you are concerned go in rather than wait in the car. Ask the cashier to be checked out on a register with a working printer that is loaded with paper. Make sure they scan the bar code on the paper bag. Even when shopping in the store if I know I should get RRs I always ask if the printer is working.

Hi Brenda! It’s really all going to depend on your store. I wish I had a better way to know for sure, but our readers seem to have mixed experiences on this.

          • Brenda

Oh ok, sorry for any miss information 😊

You are very lucky! I tried this for 6 different stores and could not get most of the items.

    • Brenda

Just placed an order and received an email that half the stuff was out of stock, so not a great deal for me either

      • Nicole (Hip Sidekick)

Well, that stinks! I order from Walgreens at least once a week. It’s rare that they are out of stock on items, but it’s very disappointing when it happens. Sorry to hear you weren’t able to get all the deals you wanted, Brenda.

    • Laura

This week I tried to order all these deals for store pickup, but website showed my store was out of stock. Took my list of deals when I visited the store in person and was able to get all the items. Maybe they just restocked? Might be worth trying in person…

  4. Ann

I have $5 off $25. Do I need to have $25 after all the digital coupons come off or before?

    • Nicole (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Ann. For a coupon like that, you will need to have $25 after all the digital coupons come off.

  5. Susan

Yeah!!! Great job! Thanks for sharing!

    • Chelsey (Hip Sidekick)

      Thanks, Susan!

  6. lzj

How do you know when you can use Walgreens cash to pay and still get the new rewards cash?

    • Nicole (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Izj! If an offer says you must buy a certain quantity to get rewards, i.e. Buy 2, get $5 Walgreens Cash then you can use your Walgreens Cash to pay. However, when it says that you must spend a certain amount to earn Walgreens Cash, i.e. Spend $20, get $5 Walgreens Cash, you are not going to want to redeem your rewards on those offers. I hope that helps!

Look for deals in the ads that say something like “Buy 2 widgets and earn $10 WC”. Those you can both redeem and earn.

  7. Pat

I have all the coupons and the bonus $5 loaded, but the bonus $5 doesn’t show up in my cash back estimate. I even added a can of coffee to bring the total to $21, still no bonus for spending $20.

Take a look at what your actual out of pocket before tax is and add it together with the line “manufacturer’s coupons”. Does it equal $20? The line “discounts and coupons” doesn’t count because those are dollars Walgreens gives you. If it checks out maybe chat online with a rep for help.

    • Nicole (Hip Sidekick)

Hi Pat! I’m not 100% sure what the issue could be. Is your total at least $20 before tax is applied?

  8. Carlos

I followed all the steps, my total comes up to around $39 and after the coupons it drops to $25. I’m up by almost $7, i see the cash rewards at $14, could it be the boost ? I did find the $5 off $20, and I clipped it, but that’s the only one I don’t see under Promo Codes & coupons section. Can I use the $5 off $20 with this purchase or is that something that I can use on a next purchase ?
    Thank you

    • MaaMaaBear

Mine is coming out the same way! I paid $29 oop, then it shows $14.48 in Walgreens Cash Rewards! I can’t figure it out. I still placed the order though. It was about $1 each item, still a good savings!

      • JM

I had the same problem. Now the $5 off $20 says “on a later purchase” and would NOT apply. I think Wags changed the coupon last night.

    • Chelsey (Hip Sidekick)

Morning Carlos! Could your higher total include tax? Our scenarios don’t include tax because it varies so much per state. Also, I would check under your coupons that all of your coupons are clipped, it should show that you have 8 coupons applying to your order. Also, the booster won’t show under your coupons clipped, that will be reflected in your ‘Estimated Walgreens Cash Rewards’ and if you’re seeing $14 then it’s included! Hope that helps!

Walgreens in store pick up… Here’s my experience. I was super excited about using this feature. While the idea of allowing substitutions, if the item you’ve purchased for an in store pick up is out of stock, is a good idea in theory, it is HORRIBLY executed on the store level. I’ve attempted this on 5 or 6 orders. Each time, I’ve checked the box to “substitute with any brand”, for each item in my order, if that item happens to go out of stock. Literally with EVERY order, at least 1/2 of my items are cancelled instead of substituted. This has happened with at least 5 orders, in at least 3 different stores. Yesterday’s experience, was the same. When I asked the manager why my items were cancelled instead of substituted, she told me that the employee “didn’t know how to substitute items so she just cancelled everything”. Disappointing. What they also fail to tell customers is that you lose any coupons that you’ve applied to the items that the store cancels. This employee’s error cost me over $20 in coupons that can’t be returned to my Walgreens account. I think employees may need a training or retraining on how in store pick up works. It could really be a great service if executed correctly.

Call or chat with a customer service rep. I have never failed to get the value of the lost coupons returned to me in the form of Walgreens cash. You are right about substitutions being a problem. If it is a cosmetic in particular I will write. DO NOT CANCEL I NEED TO COMPLETE A COUPONING DEAL. I will take anything this coupon will apply to and exchange later if it isn’t right but don’t cancel.
Something else I will write down 2 or 3 other items that I would take. It improves things. I sympathize with you.

      • Kim C.

The last time I tried to get the value for my cancelled order coupons I was told they were no longer doing that and only max of $5 in points was being returned. So Walgreens “gets” $20 in coupons, cancels my order and after waiting 20 minutes I get $5 back. I even tried multiple times.
I see now on a cancelled order it says your coupons are automatically returned to your account but mine were not for the order that was cancelled this week.

That’s new. Looks like they are changing up policies quickly. Bummer. Walgreens is losing out with the manufacturer’s coupons. If they don’t sell the product they can’t redeem the coupons from the manufacturer. I’m sure they were bleeding financially. Manufacturer’s coupons are paid by the manufacturer to the vendor on behalf of the customer. No sale no money to Walgreens. When customers request the value of the coupon back that comes directly out of Walgreens pocket not the manufacturer. Doesn’t mean we have to like it but if orders are canceled at the rate people are saying they would have to limit it. Better thing to do would be to improve order fulfillment.

  10. Patricia Goff

I wish my store gave RR if you order curbside pick up. They make you go in the store to purchase items to get RR.

Is it like that at every store in your town? Have you tried going in the store to get your online pickup and watched them checking it out to you? Because honestly if they are checking it out to you on a cash register attached to a Catalina printer they are going to spit out regardless. They are not checked out until you arrive at the store. For curiosity sake go in and ask them to check it out to you at a register attached to a working Catalina printer.

  11. Mary S

So frustrating! Spent an hour adding items to cart and making everything work. Got an email 2 minutes after placing order that the entire order was canceled.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh darn! So sorry to hear that.

  12. eileen

For the buy three get $5 cash rewards, can you do it in more than one trip. Walgreens cancelled one of my fructis shampoos which also means I won’t get the booster.

    • Chelsey (Hip Sidekick)

No, unfortunately it all has to be done in one order. Could you call your local store and ask them to substitute with a different type of Garnier Fructis shampoo or conditioner? I’m not sure if they are able to change it once they’ve picked the rest of the order but you could give it a try so you don’t miss out!

  13. Amber

My original purchase total including tax and bag fees was $21.59, with nail files substituted for the clippers. I used $20 in Walgreens cash. One shampoo was cancelled but after all was said and done, I ended up paying $0 oop and my Walgreens cash used was adjusted to $18.69. It says I should get $14.20 back and I did get the $4 RR, so all in all a good haul even with tax. Thanks!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

You are welcome! That’s an incredible deal, Amber! Thank you so much for sharing!

  14. Deejays

I was having trouble placing my order online for some reason so I decided to go into the store to shop myself. I was able to find all the items but I noticed that the pricing on the clippers was way different in the store so I tried again and was able to place my order online. The staff were gracious enough to scan the items I had shopped myself to fulfill my online order. It worked great. I don’t know if all Walgreen’s will do this, but it’s worth a try and it actually saves them time.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

That is so sweet that they did that for you! I love hearing how they were so helpful at your Walgreens store.

  15. Stephanie

Just keep in mind that not every Walgreens will give you Register Rewards for an online pickup order. I do not receive them from mine. I was also told in an online chat that you are not supposed to receive them.
