Yeah, that just doesn’t sound like a good idea sipping through cheap metallics. I do think those that work with paper crafts would find great use for them though. Makes me think of all the things I touch (like the store receipts) that are said to be harmful in some way.
Yes, metallic straws sound like a health hazard. I would be wary.
Does anyone have a suggestion for cheap helium balloons other than Dollar Tree?? The 3 near me are all out of helium!!!! They told me there is a shortage??! I can’t bring myself to pay $4-5 for a helium balloon that I can get for $1 🙁
Unfortunately, there is a global shortage of helium and the majority of it right now is getting shipped to hospitals since it’s used for various medical reasons. (MRIs, etc). They are unable to keep up with demand at this time and it sounds like it could be awhile until we have cheap access to it for balloons.
You could buy the balloon at dollar tree and fill it at party city or publix
Family Dollar by us sells the the star shaped helium balloons for $1.00. The ones with prints are little more expensive.
Walmart has balloon sticks 20pk for 1.99 so buy the ones you want, air them up with an air compressor, and put them on a stick.
I believe they would conform to some standards even if they are sold at the Dollar Store not to mention there is no guarantee on stuff sold at other stores either since price is not a measurement of safety.
I hope my store has those straws. I’ve been looking for something a bit prettier than bamboo skewers to hold up my succulents.

Never had any luck with those paper straws. Metallic or not, I find paper completely useless for sipping beverages. That said, they should make for some very fun crafts.
