diy unicorn fluffy slime using glitter

Make slime with the kiddos! 🦄

This colorful and fluffy unicorn slime uses just three main ingredients, and it’s super fun to knead and play with.

using shaving cream to make puffy slime

This very basic slime uses Elmer’s glue, liquid starch, and shaving cream. Then you divide the slime into a few small bowls and add food coloring and glitter. My daughter calls these shiny cellophane flakes “unicorn skin”, and we used it in white slime for a pretty, iridescent effect.

Hip Tips:

    • This can be a messy craft because of the glitter and food coloring, so protect the surface and clothing. I’d suggest this slime for older kids.
    • Apply hand lotion to your hands if the slime is too sticky at first (it’ll soften and become less sticky).
    • Keep in mind that once these colors are all mixed together, they’ll have a cool striped effect for a minute, but then will turn into a solid color if you keep kneading – in our case a brownish purple. 🙂
    • Slime can be stored in a covered container to make it last several days or even weeks. Just toss if/when it molds or dries out.

Supplies Needed

  • 8 oz. Elmer's Glue in white, clear, or glitter variety
  • 1 cup shaving cream
  • food coloring and glitter for embellishing
  • 6 tablespoons liquid starch

Directions

1

Pour glue into a mixing bowl. Also add the shaving cream, and mix using a spoon until combined.

2

Divide the mixture into 3 different bowls.

3

Squirt a different color food coloring and/or glitter into each bowl. Just a few drops will do. Mix well. Make sure to use 3 different spoons for mixing, so the colors don’t combine.

4

Mix in 2 tablespoons of the liquid starch to each bowl. Stir and you’ll notice slime start to form. Keep stirring, then eventually use your hands to knead each bowl.

5

Lay slime side by side, and you can braid and twist it into pretty colors. Store in a covered container.

What fun unicorn slime!

My daughter is 11 and still into creating slime with her friends and watching all the slime videos online. This is fun for summer break or a unicorn-themed birthday party activity! We made several batches just to create different colors. So cute!

I love that you can really be creative and add all the glitter you want. I wasn’t sure that the gold glitter would turn out, but and that ended up our favorite color!

We use this recipe and it works great! I buy the big gallon of white Amazon brand glue instead of Elmer’s because it’s a little cheaper

      Oh great tip thanks Christine!

    • J.H.509

I bought the Unicorn Poopsie surprise at Wal-Mart on clearance for $28 and the lady that rang us up said we should be using the slime recipe using Sta-Flo and glue instead cause it’s cheaper. Boy was she right- the Poopsie surprise doesn’t work. I’ve never even heard of Sta-Flo but we will definitely buy some and make this fun slime recipe!!

We have a Poopsie & unfortunately paid the full price for it >$50!😒
I tried 3 different times & she leaks out, it turns out way Better just mixing the packages of Shimmer & unicorn food & just mix it up your own way.
We were very excited for Poopsie & wanted to collect them all – not after the 1st one bought. Not worth the $$$$

    Is the sta-flo non-toxic?

    • mamasweetpea08

the active ingredient in liquid starch is the same active ingredient in powdered Borax: sodium tetraborate

The Stay Flo liquid starch is $2.97 at Walmart! Muuuuuch cheaper than amazon!

Substitutions for the liquid starch? It can be hard to find.

I use liquid starch to make piñatas. 🙂 I made a unicorn one for my daughter’s birthday in November, with a punching balloon, lots of newspaper, some printout eyes and ears and a big party hat from the Dollar store, rolled in on itself. I’m making a regular balloon sized one for my son’s bday on June 1. It’ll only be him and his sister at that party, but I wanted him to still feel special. He’ll love whacking it. I have favors to go inside of it from oriental trading company. Should be fun!
