How to Thank Your Delivery Person During the Holidays

Order gifts online over the holidays?

If you’re like me and do the majority of your holiday shopping online, then most likely the packages have already started piling up. Today I’m sharing a fun and easy way to say THANK YOU to those hardworking delivery drivers! They’re an important part of making the holidays run smoother for everyone, and they definitely deserve our appreciation and a nice shout out. ❤️

How to Thank Your Delivery Person During the Holidays

Thank a delivery driver with snacks!!

Consider putting a small basket of refreshments on your doorstep for a delivery person to grab and go as they drop off packages at your home! I’ve even designed a nice FREE printable sign you can place in the basket that lets delivery drivers know to take a snack. It’s just a small act of kindness that can brighten someone’s day and can help fuel a driver’s energy.

So far, my basket is a success!

On a personal note, this basket has been on my porch the last couple days, and every delivery person has taken a snack! This one as you can see was around 8 pm. He dropped off the box and took a snack and drink. It’s actually been really FUN to watch and hear on our outdoor Nest camera. One FedEx person kept saying “WOW!’ and “Thank You!” 😍

I love this idea but I live in an area with a lot of college rentals surrounding my house and I’d be worried that I would get kids just grabbing stuff off the porch, leaving nothing behind. Any suggestions?
Also, I second those who suggest posting this next year in November as most of my shopping is already done.

Any suggestions on how to keep squirrels and raccoons out of the goodies? Love them, but they’re into everything all the time!

Other readers have suggested a small bin with a lid or cooler. HTH

This is a great idea! I wish I could also adjust it for our service drivers too, like the trash truck.

  3. Ann

    Everything would be frozen here…lol

    • Jenn

if you put it inside a cooler it usually won’t freeze, just as a cooler will keep things cold when you add ice.It also will keep things at temp or warm..
Like big holiday parties, when we cook hot foods, We load several dishes hot in the cooler and drive them 3 hours in the trunk of the car while it’s freezing , snowing outside..everything is still hot when we arrive and warm when we sit down to eat…

I have done this for the past several years but have decided to delay this year. The past 2 years, thanks to my camera outside have shown me that my delivery drivers that work really really hard for me throughout the year don’t benefit. We now have a slew of Amazon drivers daily coming to the house on top of ontrac that I noticed taking a bunch of items out of the box and then coming back through after a few minutes. But I have also noticed that my regular UPS driver is not coming nor are the normal 2 Fed Ex drivers. I live in really hot state during the summer months and have just opted this year to do something in a few months and then again when it gets really hot. Otherwise the people who have worked so hard for me all year, get nothing at all. Even my regular mailman doesn’t seem to be coming daily right now. I just don’t want the regular drivers to feel snubbed and don’t like being taken advantage of by the newbies that are here for under a month.

Amazon drivers work just as hard as some of those UPS and Fed EX drivers. We get heavy, oversized items and have to drop off door to door as the UPS and Fed EX do. I mean its your box you do what you want, but please do not think Amazon drivers aren’t doing as much or sometimes more of your deliveries as UPS and Fed EX. We don’t get special trucks with ramps and granted we may or may not be working as many hours, but we do have a lot of deliveries. I, personally would say thank you, but wouldn’t take anything, lol.

      • Mara

Ramps haha I’m a UPS driver and I’ve never seen a ramp! Also you drive around in a comfy sprinter van all day…cry me a river!

This is a great idea and I love the sign! My only suggestion would be to add Amazon, as an Amazon flex driver I really appreciate any treat during the holiday season. Thanks for posting this!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Sure! Thanks for stopping by!

  8. Angie

You inspired me to do the same! I made a box to set on my front porch. Great idea!!!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      That is so great! Hooray!

  9. Kelli

I do this as well and last week a fedex driver took the time to get out some paper and write me a thank you note and tape it to the package he delivered. I think it made my day just as much as it made his! I absolutely love this tradition.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

OH my! Yes!!! I love that – thanks for sharing!

  10. Anne

Just put mine out this morning. 🙂 Thanks so much for the handy printable!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Yay! You’re so welcome!

  11. Anna

Mine was a success today. Fedex too one treat and amazon lady even made some pictures of my basket 😂

  12. koffee

I left some Gatorade and some Special K chocolate chip protein bars yesterday. It was only USPS mailman delivered our mail but he did not get anything… Did I leave something boring to him? Should I leave more variety?

  13. Laurie

Thanks for this suggestion AND the printable sign. It’s been a hit with our delivery folks, and yesterday the mail carrier (who brought a package to the door) said she “just loves us”! Such a nice idea.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yay!! That is so wonderful to hear!

      • MA

Offered UPS driver homemade cut-out sugar cookie, but he said they could not accept any gifts/donations, etc., we insisted, but he said, “Please just eat and enjoy it for me.” Such a nice young man that really wants to keep his job. Just thought you’d like to know.
However, I think your idea would be great and perhaps the driver would feel like they could help themself. Thanks for the thought!
