Awesome!! So happy they’re doing this! My husband and I were just talking about planting milkweed to help the monarch butterflies 🦋!! Thank you for posting!!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

      You’re welcome Brandy!

    • Dawm

I live in Michigan, I had 6-8 milkweeds last year I saw no butterflies. Later someone told me milkweed is dangerous to butterfly Lava.

      • Ashley

Monarch caterpillars will only eat milkweed leaves which is why the monarch butterflies lay their eggs only on milkweed plants. Without milkweed the monarchs can’t survive.

        • Amy

Milkweed plants damage crops. They have deep root systems. They hog all the water from the crops which is why farmers spray for them. But they are also killing the butterflies. I kept a bunch of milkweed plants in my yard last year. Sadly, I did not see one monarch butterfly.

        • Kjhirshka

I had some on parsley plants here.

  5. JA

Nice to see they put some thought into this. Did anyone else see the possible problems with the seeds Cheerios gave away?

    • Amy

? We got our seeds and planted them already.

    • Wren

Yes JA, I saw that. I’m Not sure how serious that is…? We may plant them anyway… 🤷‍♀️

    • Wren

Ok, so I’m researching and one article I see has advice from a senior director of ecology and conservation, saying while it’s better to plant ONLY species native to your specific region, General Mills seed packet is not likely to cause any real damage. 👍

      • Amy

This is super funny. Most plants that are purchased from garden centers are not native to the area they are being sold in. Many are gmo.

  6. Jackie

Thank you! We love butterflies and usually my kids try to grow some and release them during the summer. I think they get the painted lady one but we see lots of monarchs around here during the summer.

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re welcome! Happy you can snag this kit for them Jackie!
