After a year of using my eufy Security video doorbell, I’m excited to share my experience which is sure to give you peace of mind, save you money in the long haul, and give you the clarity you’re looking for when shopping for a new doorbell. 🙌

Side note, this is NOT a sponsored post and I happily paid for this product out of my own pocket. I simply love this product and had to share it with anyone who’s curious about them. 🤗

row of video doorbells in best buy

I’ve always wanted a fancy video doorbell.

In fact, I’ve even written about two other popular brands (the Ring & Nest Doorbells – and listed all the pros and cons), but one thing I always told myself is I work from home every day. Therefore, I could never justify the upfront cost or the monthly fee that comes with them.

How silly of me to think that way! 🤦‍♀️

It wasn’t until our direct neighbors were getting an extensive amount of work done on their home by a notoriously bad group of guys that made me start to rethink my mindset. When I realized these workers would be camping out for weeks (which turned into months) on end and even late at night, it put a fire under my butt to gain more peace of mind.

So I reached out to my Hip sidekick, Emily, who I knew was also in the market. After extensive research, she knew the eufy doorbell was going to be her top pick.

The FREE storage is what ultimately sold me. 🙌 (and I trust Emily 😉)

When it comes to my family’s safety, all frugalness goes out the window. Therefore, I didn’t wait for a eufy Doorbell sale like you’re so very lucky to have (and ones like this DON’T come around frequently!).

Here’s the deal you can score on my doorbell right now:

These are the features that drew me to the eufy doorbell:

  • 2K WDR resolution – so we can see visitors very clearly.
  • NO MONTHLY FEES – and even stores video footage for up to 30 days!
  • Works with my phone – just simply download their app for iOS or Android.
  • Talkback feature – so you can take to guests remotely.
  • Connects to Wi-Fi – easy accessibility and setup.
  • Adjustable motion sensor – you pick the level of detection based on your needs and even choose motion detection on just humans or anything that moves.
  • Wide-angle lens – so you have a greater vision of your front door, yard, and head-to-toe visual of anyone approaching your home.
  • Comes with a mounting kit – it even includes an angle adapter so if you need your camera in a certain direction you can do that too.
  • Connects to Alexa & Google – I haven’t used this feature yet, but it’s such an awesome perk!
  • Option for battery or wired setup – so it’s perfect for any home!

There are many awesome perks I wasn’t anticipating too:

  • Surprise “Hellos” from my significant other while he’s away. (The BEST!)
  • Getting to say goodbye to the kids before they leave for school if one of us is already out the door.
  • No need to ask when family members get home since you can check in with the app.
  • We know when neighbors stop by so we can catch up with them later.
  • Know (and see) when packages are left at the door so no need to worry about them getting stolen or lost.

Setting up the eufy doorbell is so easy too.

We opted to hard-wire ours in place of our old, broken doorbell, but if you’re planning to just use it as a battery-operated doorbell setting it up will be even more of a cinch!

My significant other is pretty handy, but if you’re not comfortable working with electrical wires and plan on hard-wiring your doorbell, you may want to call in a professional.

When setting up your doorbell, you’ll first connect to your new home base through the app. We decided to store ours in our cabinet next to our router and it takes up very little space!

video footage of man standing at front door

As you can see, the video footage once you’re set up is incredibly clear! 🤩

I have loved being able to see who’s at our door whether I’m home or not and my significant other loves the ability to check in any time too. Plus, being able to talk through the doorbell is a huge perk and works seamlessly! (We have only noticed a small delay at times, due to WiFi issues.)

Over the last year, we’ve had a few strange people poking around our yard and/or touching things they should have when we weren’t home. Ultimately, our doorbell has provided us with the power and knowledge we wouldn’t have otherwise had without it.

I’m incredibly thankful we finally got this doorbell! 🙏🏻

185 eufy notifications on app

Of course, with everything there are a couple of things worth mentioning:

  • The notifications can get out of control. 😳 Granted, you can always turn them off (which I do), so this won’t necessarily be an issue. The doorbells are designed to detect things so if the kids are running around playing you’ll be getting quite a few notifications, but keep in mind these can always be shut off at your convenience – you’ll just have to remember to turn them back on or check in on the app at the end of each day.
  • Sometimes it lags. We’ve noticed occasionally our doorbell doesn’t pick people up right away. If there’s someone who doesn’t belong at your door, this could be a major thumbs down. Of course, our WiFi tends to get quite a few interruptions so with a new high-speed router I’m hoping this won’t continue to be an issue. Despite this, ours has always come through when we needed it.

Overall, our entire family is so thrilled with this addition to our home! In fact, we plan to add many more additions to our eufy system and provide peace of mind in every corner of our home’s exterior.

Thank you for all this information! I’ve recently started looking into video doorbells and it’s so overwhelming.

    • Sara

      You’re so welcome, Lori!

  2. Kelly Sculpher

I’ve had mine for over a year. I had tried Simplisafe first, but their after sales customer service was non existent. I bought ALL Eufy cameras, a flood cam out back, the doorbell, the wireless 365 cameras around the outside of the house, and indoor cameras (we call them Kitty Cam, so we can keep an eye on the cats when we go away and they petsitter comes by). You can talk through all of them, so we can talk to the cats, talk to a visitor, even talk through the floodlight. Eufy is also Apple compatible, which was important to my husband. The wireless 365 cameras actually do last 365 days before you have to recharge the battery. They’re amazing. Since they’re wireless, you can put them everywhere. Two of my neighbors attach them to trees.

    • Sara

WOW! That is so awesome! Thank you for sharing, Kelly!

  3. haileymaxwell41716

If you get the door bell and the cameras, do you just need one home base when you buy?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

From what I am reading you can have up to 16 cameras tied to one HomeBase!

      • haileymaxwell41716

        Thank you Jennifer

  4. Patricia Lavenz

Not sure I want it on my wifi. We always go over our limit already. Thanks for sharing though. I think I will stick with my dogs telling me somebody pulled in the driveway or the neighbors driveway. LOL

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Dogs make great alarms! I had a Corgi for 17 years that yapped at everything.

      • Patricia Lavenz

Yeah. My pitties yap at everything too. They sound scary but they once you are inside they just want head scratches. they will keep bumping you with their head till they get one.

  5. xoxos

Ummm.. woooowwww. I couldn’t even read the whole review because I’m too stuck on the part where apparently construction workers are notoriously dudes up to no good smh. And if you only meant that particular company, it doesn’t make it okay to lump the entirety of construction workers into the same equation as those guys.

    • Ashley

      Completely agree!

    • Kim

      Same!!!!

    • Sara

Hi there! I hear your concerns and I do appreciate your feedback. I also understand how my words could have been taken that way and I have updated my verbiage in the post to hopefully reflect a better understanding of our situation. Please know there were numerous reckless and dangerous events involving these local workers that lead to my decision in sharing how the Eufy made my family and myself feel safer at home and my intent was never to group all construction workers together. My significant other is also in the line of construction so I greatly appreciate how hard they work and what their industry provides for our communities, economy, and overall country.

    • Juma

I agree with you. This is just wow. I work in the construction industry and we have never (thank goodness) had any issues with our clients/customers feeling like we are out to get them or create problems/issues for them. If this is a statement that’s posted about the construction industry then the same could be said about every industry and individual/client/customer…. there’s good/bad in everyone/occupation.

      • Sara

Hi Juma, I hope my previous comment above was well received and again, my intent was never to group all construction workers in any way. No one deserves that and I do agree there are good and bad people in every single industry. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.

  6. savemore1

I bought the doorbell last time it was advertised here. It’s great. Was very easy to install and works very well. No monthly fees. Good video quality. You can talk to whoever is coming to the door. No complaints at all, for this price it’s perfect.

    • Sara

That’s wonderful to hear! Thank you for sharing your feedback with us, savemore1!

  7. AmJunks

I don’t need a doorbell, but I love the sweater with the zippered pockets! Can you tell me where I could get one of those?

    • Sara

Hey there – I love this sweater too! It was actually a local consignment shop find so I’m not sure how old it is, but the tag says “Lucy and Laurel”. I did find a few different sizes for sale online at second-hand shops in sizes XS, Medium, and XL! I hope this is helpful and you find what you’re looking for, AmJunks!

      • AmJunks

Ooh, I love a good consignment store find! Thank you so much for replying and taking the time to post links to the sweater! Super helpful and so appreciated. Happy Friday!

  8. maria

I have a wifi data cap how much data does this eat up.

    • Sara

Hey Maria! Since I do not have a cap on my WiFi, I went on Amazon and looked at the Q&As and one answer states that “This is connecting to your router at 2.4 GHz on the wireless band.” Hopefully, this helps! Please let me know if you have any other questions!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing! The one in the post is the 2K. The one from their site, in that link is the 1080.

  9. Shawn

Do not buy this door bell camera. Literally had the UPS driver come up and ring the bell. No notifications events. Had to see when he came on a second camera. WTF he rang my doorbell. This system sucks

    • Sara (Hip Sidekick)

I’m so sorry, Shawn! I have never experienced that when someone rings the doorbell but the few times we’ve had WiFi interruptions we don’t get notifications but those have been few and far between.

  10. Kerri

I’m going to get one. I have been overwhelmed by the choices out there and your review has helped me a ton.
    Thank you!

    • Collin (Mrs. Hip)

You’re so welcome, Kerri! Glad this was helpful! πŸ₯°

      • Katrina

I want one but i do not want my hubby to get notified and see all my secret deliveries lol πŸ˜† πŸ˜…

    • Sara (Hip Sidekick)

I’m so thrilled I could make this an easy decision for you, Kerri! I too was overwhelmed when shopping around last year so it’s so nice to know I’ve made this process easier for you. Enjoy!

  11. kalynn

We have a Eufy and we love it!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Happy to hear that, Kalynn! πŸ™ŒThanks for taking a moment to comment! πŸ₯°

  12. Rebecca

So am I understanding that if I don’t have a doorbell on my home that I could do the battery install?

    • Sara (Hip Sidekick)

Yes, Rebecca, that’s correct! I haven’t tested the doorbell being installed that way so I don’t know much more than that. I do believe you’ll have to charge it every once in a while so just something to think about. Then again, any battery-powered doorbell you buy will have to be charged. I hope this helps! πŸ™‚

      • Rebecca

        Thank you!

    • kalynn

Yes! We didn’t have a doorbell, and we were able to do the battery install. I think we have only had to charge it once in the 8 months since we have had it!

      • Rebecca

        Thank you!
