This highly-rated Insignia rice cooker is the BEST and one of my most-coveted kitchen tools!

woman using insignia rice cooker

I had no idea how much time and energy a rice cooker can save…

And before I even start dishing about this appliance, I do want to mention that this post is NOT sponsored. In fact, I reached out to the team and asked if I could write a product review on this rice cooker. I love it so much and just had to share!

Anything that can make my life easier at home while cooking dinner for the family is a winner. Having a dedicated rice cooker has been super helpful as I no longer have to stand around and wait for the water to boil on the stove! 🤪

In case you have been curious about if it’s worth having a rice cooker around, my answer is HECK YES!

insignia brand rice cooker

In lieu of a Christmas party a couple of years ago, my husband’s work gave us the option to pick from a gift catalog, and this 20-cup stainless rice cooker was our pick. He was honestly a little annoyed at the thought of storing another small appliance, but my handy Insignia rice maker has definitely earned a spot on our kitchen counter!

I am not alone either, because it has over two hundred 5-star reviews on BestBuy.com!

insignia rice cooker

I noticed the Insignia rice cooker occasionally goes on sale at BestBuy.com, and I was hoping to share this when there was a sale going on. That said, this is still well worth the cost even at full price, which is pretty rare for anyone at Hip2Save to say! 😂

dishing up rice from insignia rice cooker

There’s no more guessing how much water to boil or having rice come out overcooked or burnt.

You can make a little or a lot of rice at once and have it perfectly warmed for dinner. I would usually just boil water on the stove and make rice using that method. It’s easy, but using a rice cooker is so much more convenient! Now I can make a big batch of rice and my family can dish it up at different times if needed in the evening… and it stays warm.

Plus, if there is leftover rice, I can roll it into a batch of easy fried rice for dinner the following day!

making rice with signia rice cooker

I love how easy this rice cooker is to use. Add rice, water, and press a button — that’s it!

To make rice, you just fill up the pot with water to the designated markings inside of the cooking pot. Then add the rice using the 3/4 cup measuring cup included with the cooker.

In addition to the measuring cup, it also comes with a steamer basket and a couple of spatulas. I actually cut a small piece from the user guide’s directions and taped them to the back of my machine to remind myself of the ratios to use and in case my kids or husband need help! 😂

rice button on rice cooker

All you have to do is close the lid and press the white rice button. Then in about 20 minutes, you’ll get ready-to-eat fluffy rice without even getting a pot out to boil water! It’s a very hands-off approach to making rice which is so convenient.

What’s that you say? What about making rice in my Instant Pot? Honestly, I find my rice cooker more user-friendly than an Instant Pot because you can open and shut the lid to check on things without the quick release. I definitely enjoy making rice in this appliance more!

making steamed veggies in the best rice cooker

There is a steam basket that also comes with the rice cooker which fits perfectly inside.

You can use the steam basket alone, or steam your veggies at the same time as making rice! Then clean-up is super easy to do as the inner pot has a nonstick interior, so food slides off very easily when washing, and it’s also dishwasher safe.

making oatmeal with a rice cooker

My rice cooker is surprisingly versatile!

In addition to the white and brown rice settings, it even has an oatmeal button to easily make hot oatmeal in the mornings. I get up before my kids do so it’s easy to add in some oatmeal in the early morning hours, then when they wake up they can dish up a fresh bowl with all the fixings like brown sugar, raisins, and nuts. YUM!

My rice cooker has 9 preset functions including white rice, quick rice, oatmeal, quinoa, mixed grains, brown rice, steam, delay timer, and keep warm, so you’re bound to find a function to fit your needs!

In conclusion, this is the best and most stress-free way to make rice EVER!

I’m not sure what took me so long to jump on the rice cooker train, but I am so glad to have it.

It would also make a great wedding gift or Christmas gift for someone who likes to cook.

Can’t live w/o my rice cooker! I cook buckwheat and barley too! 8)

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Oh awesome!!! Yes, it’s so handy!

  2. Michelle R

This is exactly what I’ve been needing, Lina! Thank you! I have a Dash mini rice cooker, but it is just too small for a family of four. This one looks perfect! I’m excited to try oatmeal in it too!

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Yes!! I hope you love it as much as I do 💕

  3. Kylie

Is the vegetable steamer basket plastic? Or is anything else plastic that the food would come in contact with? Thank you.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Yes, the basket is plastic.

  4. sarahreibold

Hi, stupid question but does the rice come out like the white rice you get from Chinese restaurants? If so, what kind of rice do you use? Thank you 😊

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hey there! It looks like you can make that type of rice in this cooker when using a sweet rice. Hope that is helpful!

UPDATE: You can use medium or short grain rice. ❤️

      • Winnie

No pls do NOT use sweet rice if you want to get Chinese restaurant style rice. Just use medium or short grain rice. Sweet rice is another type of rice which is sticky and glutinous while cooked. Short grain rice is for sushi and it has a little bit of stickiness and chewiness. But if you can’t find short grain, medium grain is fine too. Long grain rice is cheapest but tastes bad.

        • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for the helpful response, Winnie! Good to know and much appreciated! 🤗

    • Audrey

The rice they use in Chinese restaurants is Jasmine rice. I found this rice (Imperial Dragon Jasmine Rice) to have an extra aroma & it tastes great using left overs for fried rice. I get it from Walmart.

      • Judy Trac

        Try elephant brand

  5. Holly

How hard or easy is this to lean. I’ve had a bad experience with a supposedly non stick rice cooker where the rice sticks like glue.

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

Very easy. Just one button to push. No sticking at all. My mom in law used ours then asked for one for christmad so she has it now too! Ha

    • Holly

Oops. How hard to clean? Not to use. Thanks.

      • AnaM

This is my opinion, if you can not remove the cover, its difficult to clean. You have to clean the cover good and dry them so you won’t have smelly and spoiled rice the next time you cook. The best rice cooker are those that you can remove and wash along with your dishes. This one is too time consuming to clean in my opinion.

I bought one for my brother and he uses it all the time. I am not into the new gadgets I tend to go old school. Still use my mom’s pressure cooker……..

    • Lina D (Hip2Save Sidekick)

      Nice! Thanks for sharing that!

  11. Sarah

Is it just me, or are the scale marks on the inside hard to read? Other than that, I’m loving it!

    • Claudette (Hip Sidekick)

Hey Sarah! I agree with you and I just use my measuring cups to premeasure before placing in the cooker. Glad to hear you are loving yours.💕
