I usually make berry or green smoothies, but it’s fun to switch it up a little and try something different. Customize this recipe by using your favorite milk and/or yogurt to fit your dietary needs and taste. If you use unsweetened milk and yogurt, you may want to add honey or another sweetener.

YUM! I’m “all over this,” and I’m gonna try & substitute silken tofu for my vegan foster son and see what he thinks. Thanks 😋

  2. Janet

Thanks for sharing Lina!! I recently took a nutrition class and they made a recipe similar to yours, but it was pudding not a smoothie. Either way they are both awesome and delicious!

  3. Jenni

Also add PB2 powder for a Choco/PB shake!

    • Whitney

Yes! Yummy. I just bought a big bag of organic peanut butter powder at Costco!!

Omg! This looks awesome! This might be a stupid question, but this would be a good low carb snack, right?

    • Jac

Fairly low carb, especially if you use unsweetened yogurt & don’t add sugar. I make mine without banana to keep it even lower carb.

I have never tryed avocado before, but I am a healthy smoothie lover. Can anyone tell me can you taste the avocado when it is in a smoothy or even in baked good. I’ve heard that is makes dishes creamier. I would like to try this recipe, but a little hesitant because of the avocado. What’s your thoughts? Thanks

    • ShoppyMcSaver

I use avocado in baked goods and smoothies and it doesn’t make it taste like avocado.

Avocado is delicious, I eat one (or half of one) a day. There is no taste in a smoothie, I put them in my smoothies all the time. It is a bland flavor that goes with so many things, that’s why a lot of people like it, not strong but super good for you! You can bake with it, I put it on my toast instead of butter, I put chunks right in a salad, you really can’t go wrong with avocado! If you’ve never tried avocado, make sure you buy or ripen one first, you can not use it if it isn’t ripe. Enjoy!!

    • Heather C

It makes it super creamy & avocado is a healthy fat

    • mel

Avocado’s are very bland until you season it up. Using it in a smoothie you won’t taste it.

I too was nervous about using avacado as I don’t like guacamole but much to my delight no one in my family knows I put a whole avacado minus peel n pit in every smoothie I make now!I cant even taste a difference but the texture is creamier now!

Depends on your definition of low carb. As the milk, banana, and Greek yogurt all have carbs. You could some unsweetened almond milk and plain Greek, if wanting to cut the carbs further.

    • Lisa

I get your reticence, but you can’t taste it. It’s fairly common in Latin America for smoothies (called “licuados”) to feature avocados. I had one that was avocado, banana and oatmeal that was surprisingly good.

Love all your recipes (and will definitely try this one) just wanted to comment that I wouldn’t sugges adding sugar, there is no reason to add sugar to most foods since so many people already eat too much sugar…we should be cutting our sugar not adding. I’m sure it’s delicious without added sugar.

This is similar to a recipe I used that helped me get back on track with whole foods (and no sugar) while training for a marathon. If it weren’t for this smoothie my chocolate cravings would be the death of me!
My recipe is slightly different, but super filling:
    2 bananas
    1/2 avocado
    1/2 can coconut milk
    1 tsp flax seed
    1 scoop chocolate protein powder
    1 scoop cocoa powder
add ice and blend. This gives me a larger meal size portion and small mason jar portion I save for an afternoon or evening snack.

What’s the calories and fat for this?

  10. Linda

There’s an avocado pudding recipe I use to make my kids rather than giving them regular pudding. 1 avocado, 1/2 cup milk (any kind, reg, soy, coconut etc) 1 tablespoon honey. Place everything in blender and blend until it becomes thick like pudding. If you want to make it chocolate add cocoa powder.

This is so delish! If you live near a Cash and Carry, they sell a bag of frozen avocado halves that are perfect for smoothies!

  12. Inkspell

I tried this at a fair once (they were selling some food processor thing) and it was super delicious. I wanted to just buy a giant smoothie for the day.

  13. Lesli

Sounds so yummy! Nice to have healthy options when you have a sweet tooth. Thanks!

Looking forward to trying this in our vitamix – yum!

I think this is great for those that this appeals to, however, I do not like the whole idea of adding an avocado to something like a smoothie which features chocolate. Yes, I know that you cannot taste the avocado and it is healthier but I can’t fathom the idea maybe it’s just knowing it’s there. I LOVE avocados by the way…just not in my drink. Thanks Lina, I do love your posts though.

  16. Elaine

Ill try this without the yogurt lol

  17. mar

Thanks love your recipes please don’t ever stop doing those wonderful recipes!

  18. Kerrie

My kids sampled a similar smoothie at Costco recently that they loved. It included avocado, mint extract, fresh baby spinach, milk, chocolate chips, and ice. They said it tasted just like mint chocolate chip ice cream.

  19. Karen G

I would suggest switching out the cocoa powder to cacao powder. It is less processed so better for you.
