    I’ve been wanting to try keto for a while. Anyone who has tried it: is the hunger/tiredness really as bad as people say it is?

      The tiredness was bad but I was NEVER hungry, in fact I had to make myself eat dinner most nights. I was on it for 6 weeks, and I never cheated once! I loved the food and could have stayed on it forever BUT after 6 weeks I lost 0 pounds and I was still exhausted (which is the opposite of the normal results). It just wasn’t’ right for me. I would still encourage others to try it, I do think it works great for a whole lot of people and this is a nice comprehensive list of recipes! I will be making some of these dinners again even though I’m not still doing Keto.

      I’ve done keto off and one for about the past year and lost about 20 lbs. You may feel a little tired and have some body aches (keto flu) for a few days but after that you’ll feel amazing! I hardly feel hungry once I’m in ketosis, and I often have to remind myself to eat something. If you’re thinking about it, I would recommend doing some research before you jump in. There are ways to reduce symptoms of the keto flu and it’s good to understand the science behind what is happening to your body. I recently convinced my husband to join me and he loves it! He lost 7lbs in two weeks, and wants to keep going. Good luck!

        I agree with Jessica- it’s definitely important to understand the science behind keto and how it changes the way your body utilizes the ‘fuel’ you are ingesting. it’s not a fad; rather it’s a way of eating that is part of a healthy life-style. I am keto under the supervision of my primary care physician. I have degenerative disk disease and mild to moderate osteo arthritis in my spine, knees and hands. Since I’ve been eating clean keto my general pain level has dropped significantly, my skin is clearer, my digestion improved significantly as well. Yes, energy level is thru the roof, and like a few other keto-ers stated here, I often have to remind myself to eat. I do not miss the sluggish heavy bloated feeling or the intensity of the joint and spinal pain I once felt from eating all those processed grains and sugars. Plus my clinically depressive state has done a 180 and my ADHD has also improved past what prescription medication had done for me . If you don’t believe or understand the difference that getting past an addiction to unhealthy over processed carbs can make, then do some research before you blast the folks rightly singing the keto praises. I mean really…

      I’ve been on it a month and even with 3 kids who hate sleep, I have way more energy then with my previous WOE. The first week does suck a little but I quickly transitioned into the not starving and not tired mode.

      I’ve been on keto for two years and have lost 230 lbs. The first two weeks was hard as I was breaking a very strong sugar and carb addiction, but I wasn’t hungry…just hungry for. I took magnesium supplements so I didn’t suffer from the tiredness or flu like symptoms some people experience. After the initial two weeks, it’s been a total breeze. I don’t have cravings and there are plenty of great substitution recipes for just about anything I want. Just Google keto plus the recipe you want to convert, and you’ll find tons! I’ll never go back to eating crap.

      I have been on keto for a few weeks now and I have lost 15 pounds. There is no hunger issues. Keto is not a starvation or calorie deficit diet. It’s important to track your macro nutrients and follow them closely for results. You can’t just go “low carb” and achieve ketosis. There is a balance between carbs, fat, and protein that is needed for ketosis. You could eat zero carbs and still not hit ketosis if your protein intake is too high. Even the tiredness you will feel while starting a keto diet is treatable and not long lasting.

      There’s no reason to suffer from the keto flu. Manage your potassium, sodium, and magnesium intake and you’ll be fine.

      I started the end of May last year and lost 40lbs by the end of the year. I don’t feel tired or hungry and I don’t feel like I’m sacrificing anything with the food choices. My boyfriend and 10 year old also do low carb.

      I’ve very recently tried keto and I haven’t been hungry or tired. The only time I get tired is when I dont know what to make and go several hours between eating. The fat bombs are life savers though. They help me get through any craving I’ve been having.

      Yes it works! I just lost 17lbs in 14 days! The trick is to stick with low fat protiens and low carb veggies the first 30 days. Drink a ton of water too! No alcohol of any kind. You will loose weight quickly the first few days because you loose water weight an also the 5 pnd’s or so thats in your liver. After that you can loose on avg. a pnd. a day. Don’t eat packaged foods! You need control over what you eat. They put sugar in everything even cheese. Snack cravings go away after about 14 days. There are so many great recpies too. You can also just change recipes you already know. Just swap out the carb and sugar ingredients. Again, it works if you follow the rules and dont cheat! You will be amazed how fast the weight come off!

    I’ve been doing keto for 8 months now and lost 48 lbs. At first you will feel tired, have some headaches/flu like symptoms and have cravings, but after a week or two you will adjust. For me cravings are completely gone, I have so much more energy than when I was eating carbs, and I just feel amazing. You will also feel full and not as hungry. I follow strict keto in which I do not eat berries even though some are allowed and I do not eat dairy which a lot of keto recipes have. Dairy for me causes inflammation so I avoid it. I also make sure I have electrolytes bc with keto you expel more water so you can loose electrolytes quicker, and no I don’t mean drinking Gatorade lol. I measure out pink salt, magnesium supplements and I make sure to eat a lot of potassium such as avocados and spinach. Overall, I wish I found this WOE sooner, bc I definitely feel amazing on it.

      I spiral them, place them in a bowl and microwave them for about 2 minutes they still have a little crunch but you can cook longer if you’d like.

    I’d like to suggest something 100% different for whoever is interested. I started the WFPB Diet and lost over 60lbs in about 7 months. I feel amazing and am healthier than ever. It’s a lifestyle for me. I’m never going back!

    Carbs are such an essential part of our diet!!! Limiting them only makes us feel horrible. We thrive on carbs!! There’s so much misinformation out there.

      I’ve been vegan (sometimes 100% raw) for 5 years and have never felt better. Never get sick, so much energy,etc.

      I will say that carbs aren’t the devil like some diets would like you believe. I also believe that it depends on the person and how they feel when they eat a certain way. I can’t go without carbs because I feel sick, but at the same time my sister gets headaches/low energy when she tries to go vegan. All a matter of personal preference.

      Yes, carbs are necessary, but on keto, we eat healthy carbs, not sugar or starchy carbs. I’m glad you like your diet, but please don’t pass on misinformation. Keto has been proven to be an extremely healthy diet. I’ve lost 230 lbs, no longer have congestive heart failure or diabetes and have perfect numbers on my blood tests now. My blood pressure is no longer high and my resting heart rate is now 50 instead of 70. Facts don’t lie.

        I’m sorry to say this, but it is very misleading when you say “healthy carbs, not sugar or starchy carbs”. Starchy carbs have been scientifically proven to be some of the healthiest foods we can eat. Societies with the healthiest individuals and the most centenarians eat a diet that is over 80% starchy carbs. In our Western world we are so confused about what is actually healthy. We have the highest rates of heart disease and cancer. People don’t seem to relate that to diet, but we are what we eat, and that is very clear to whoever wants to pay a little bit of attention.

      There are ESSENTIAL fatty acids (you must ingest because the body requires them for good health but cannot synthesize them) and ESSENTIAL amino acids (ditto). There are NO ESSENTIAL carbohydrates. Your body can use fats for fuel directly, especially when keto-adapted, and can, through a process called Gluconeogenesis, synthesize glucose to use for fuel from non-carb foods we eat. The fact that most people make carbs a large part of their daily diet does NOT make them “such an essential part of our diet!!!” nor does limiting them make everyone feel horrible. The replies in this thread testify to that. If what you are eating works for you and makes you feel well, I’m glad that you have found it. However, that does NOT make it the ONLY way for everyone, nor disprove the personal experiences of the others who replied. The original question was about others’ experiences with starting keto, and your reply added no information about that. Beware of being part of the “misinformation” you decry.

      Yes they are but most people eat the wrong ones and too many of them… thats why Keto. On the 2nd phase of keto you start to introduce good carbs in moderation back into your diet.

    And I ate WFPB (vegan, whole foods, plant based), for almost a year and I didn’t lose a single ounce and I felt like CRAP. I was getting constant migraines, always tired, and the last straw was when I tried to give blood and they wouldn’t take it because I had extremely low iron. Despite constantly eating broccoli and kale and other dark leafy veggies that have iron in them! I was also on a supplement. Went back to eating red meat and I feel great again. Obviously it just depends on your body!

      You just make it your lifestyle & stay on it forever ☺️… Fad diets don’t really work. It has to be lifestyle change forever.

      Shannon, carbs don’t make you fat. Fat makes you fat. I have lost an incredible amount of weight and my diet is about 80% carbs.

      You get fat when you go back to old habits of eating unhealthy not adding in carbs (let’s say the appropriate/needed amount).
      Example: long ago I had a fear of water but wanted to do a triathlon. Swimming was my biggest hallenge by far. Eventually with much practice, I finally could swim the amount needed without having a panic attack. Years later, I stopped swimming and as time went on, I lost my strength for swimming long distances and even some of my fear came back…..
      moral of the story, if you don’t continue practicing what you have learned you will likely lose what you have gained or in a weight loss relation…. you will likely gain what you loss.

      This year I loss 30 lbs doing a weight loss program. I have now translations out of it and have added a normal balance of nutrients, count my macros and exercise and continue to lose weight. I even have ice cream every once in a while!!!!! Guess what? I’m fine and not gaining but losing. Most people gain weight because they treat themselves to unhealthy snack/snacks and overeat EVERDAY! You have to be smart.

      My husband does keto on and off. It is probably different for everyone, but he’s lost a total of 30 lbs and doesn’t put any weight back on when he goes off it. And when he goes off, he goes OFF, lol. Doughnuts, soda, pie, you name it.

      You can slowly incorporate carbs back after your initial weight loss. Can I go back to toast for breakfast, sandwich for lunch and spaghetti with garlic bread for dinner? No. I will end up right back where I started. But, I can have the occasional spaghetti. Just not every day.

    Absolutely Shanon I have tried every diet out there I finally got down to a size 1 and I looked so sick when I got with my husband I started eating regularly and went up to a size 9-11 Only diet that makes me feel great is a low calorie one it is a lifestyle but I have to if not I have a lot of stomach issues but overall my stomach has went way down in 2-3 weeks the shape of my body is changing

    this list is just great! I’ve been trying keto in the past and it did start my weight to go down (I’ve hit a plateau for a few months). I have to say that I only want to lose maybe 10-12 lbs, not much. I felt great, wasn’t hungry. On my normal day I would eat quite a lot of carbs and about 30 min later my mind is already thinking about next snack time. With keto – to my surprise- those thoughts were really rare. I was also surprised that I did not miss much bread and sweets. However, I love tomatoes and fruit, so that what I missed the most.

    I’ve lost 40 pounds. 14 away from my goal weight. What worked for me* was quitting sugar FIRST (candies, soda, sweet tea, etc.). Then I cut the other carbs. Energy SOARED through the roof. As a mom of a special needs kiddo….I can’t remember a time where I wasn’t thinking of my next chance to sleep. I BOUNCE out of bed, SUPER CLEAR mind….the fog lifting is the most amazing thing honestly; weight loss is a bonus. I did not experience the keto flu. Also, (before starting) I had a required health check up last year (insurance requirements) and have had a required health check up this year….my triglycerides, LDL, HDL, total cholesterol, and glucose numbers are in the PERFECT range. Couldn’t be happier/healthier/ready to start the day.
