Hi! I’m trying to bookmark your Amazon Deals Page, but when I click on both your links it just takes me to another different page on your site. 😥

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

Yes, Lily, it’s taking you to our page where we post all the Amazon deals! There are new deals daily and once Prime day starts, you’ll see all those.

  2. Josie

I’m confused. Not all the deals go live at the same time. Are you saying if you already have them in your cart and check out at 8:00 a.m. and some of the deals don’t go live until later — throughout the day — that you will automatically get the sale price adjusted?

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

They don’t go live at the same time, Josie! If you have an item in your cart, once the sale for it goes live, it will drop the price in your cart and you can check out. Don’t check out till the price goes down though.

      • Josie

That’s what I thought. But your post says to “FILL your Amazon cart now with Prime-eligible products you love.” If you put *everything* in the cart early, the checkout strategy won’t work.

        • Stefanie

Add all the items to your cart and then pick save for later on all of them. When the price drops for an item, pick move to cart and check out.

          • Lil*5

In the past I actually had an identical item in the cart as the one that went down in price on prime day, and! the price in the cart did NOT go down. I had to go to the sale page and read the item in order to get that price.

I quit Amazon for over a year now, so I have zero stress about these things now, but thought someone might find this useful and check the price of the item they want on the actual item page.

A bit about freedom from materialism.
I went from shoppoholic (constantly checking fav stores for random items to go down in price) to shopping only when I actually need something, not shopping in advance and hoarding. I quit Xmas shopping too. I still have boxes of stuff to rid off. Starting purging on eBay and giving away, gifts, etc. Now I can actually afford a few items I really love and not waste on many items I don’t really like. I have more time to focus on a financially secure future instead. I love seeing savings grow while I enjoy a more balanced, focused and clutter-free life. Just thought I would put it out there. While it can be addicting to find the lowest price (I still compare prices and do research for say my next laptop), but it’s incredibly liberating to not panic when the sale is about to end. Get more sleep instead. Quality time spent with those close to us. Anything else that’s truly beneficial instead of getting caught in the wheel of consumerism. 😘

            • CAJ

Thanks, Lil5….something I might need to do myself 🙂

            • Anne

One of the things I have noticed is that once I put an item in my shopping cart on Amazon, within a few days, the price of that item starts going up! I’ve had this happen several times, and never knew if it’s some sales tactic.
I’ve also had to remind myself that just because something goes on sale, it doesn’t mean I need to buy it – unless I actually needed that item in the first place.
I’m really trying to only buy things when necessary now, not just because they’re marked down on sale.

              • PrincessMom

I keep things in my Amazon cart all the time. If I think of something I want, think of a good gift idea for someone, or see something when browsing that I like, I put it in the cart and “save for later.” Then, I periodically look through my cart and see what’s in there and for how much. If it becomes something I actually want to order, I decide if the price is what I’m willing to pay and then move it to my cart for purchase. If I decide later that I’m not going to buy that item at all, I just delete it. I’ve found Amazon actually helps me to buy less because I can put things in the cart and then go back later to decide if I really want them and at what price I’m willing to go for it.

            • Shelly

I hear ya & wish I could do the same
              I m a deal finder addict myself 😩

            • Kcarr78

YES!!!!! Panicking about Amazon Prime Day? I just don’t get it 🤦🏼‍♀️

            • barb

I love what you posted Lil*5, I feel the same way, I just need to put it into action more. I don’t surf the net for deals like I used to, checking every hour ete., etc., for a good deal to pop up on stuff I don’t need. I have purchased stuff I don’t need or will never use because it was a hot sale price, what a waist!!!! I have really tried not to tempt myself into making a purchase I don’t need by clicking on it – because someone else is profiting off my impulse needless shopping. Such great advice, glad you put it out there, Im also ready to cancel my Amazon Prime account because for $129 (thats about what it costs when you include sales tax) I have to ask myself is it really worth it? Amazon Prima day last year was a huge let down.

              • Lil*5

Glad what I said resonated with some of you. I struggled for a few years and a good friend of mine alerted me that it was a problem (not that I didn’t feel it myself), noticing how I was checking my phone for sales constantly and the boxes kept piling up. I just would get such a rush and was ready to press that buy button on more than just one site. All the calculating of discounts and then feeling like I won something major. It really consumed so much of my time. Luckily, I was able to gradually stop with some help. Once in a while I would slip, but now haven’t really bought much for over a year and I tell you, I didn’t miss anything, I am content, and I had more time to focus on a business idea instead. I focus on making more versus saving. I like ibotta for example, but don’t feel bad anymore if I forget to scan a receipt or miss an item I normally get anyway, and if it’s a low amount l choose time and dump the receipt. No more letting a sale or a coupon bully me into giving up my time or money.

And the two times I watched Prime day, I realized how stressed I was the entire day and found nothing of value in the end! Some of us may even feel that we must buy at least something after that time and energy we have to clicking, clicking and clicking, and buy something useless. Regardless, Amazon gets what they want: customers checking out their products, getting familiar with navigating their site, comfortable at shopping there and guaranteed to come back. It’s really just a psychological game to them and we go and click and hope for some magic and all we end up doing is labor as shoppers. The cart thing on amazon is useful if you have control. I check my cart once in a while and yes the price goes up and down by algorithm to get you to buy. Might be good for an item you really need but then it’s tempting to see ‘what else’, maybe best to just to not put anything in it that you don’t even know if you need. My friend doesn’t watch any sales at all and just buys exactly when something is needed – for electronics, though, I intervene and help get a few hundreds off and that’s as close as my friend gets to ‘sales’. Someone once said “but it’s 60%off!”, my friend: “so what, I don’t need it and it’s not 60% off, it’s still $150” lol. Pretty much if you look at the price, you still have to give up cash, and why should you if you don’t need the item? Then this friend goes and drops $150 on a pair of hiking shoes. I never imagined just going and paying full price! But I am learning that my time is more valuable and I can actually buy what I really need and love instead of getting many items that I don’t even feel drawn to and now have due to the price I scored. But now that I look at my numbers, I have more money to actually splurge and get what I really love, say the color of sneakers that usually sells out and doesn’t even get to the low price where I used to grab shoes at. I would still see if I could get a few % off, might be good to have that experience ;), but now my goal is to have less clutter, have only items that ‘spark joy’ and have more time and money to enjoy the people close to me. Never realized until recently just how poor all the couponing kept me and ate away at my income and time that could be used to focus on growing savings instead.

It is not easy because, perhaps especially for women? Maybe we we tie it to care-taking, feeding, etc? But that rush of scoring big lol I am sure anyone can fall for. Perhaps this is as serious as gambling? Whatever it is, marketers figured us out and those of us that get hooked, not easy to get out. Someone told me it’s also the idea of ‘scarcity’ that works so well in capitalism. Think ‘abundance’ ☺️.

                ~~
Okay, I will stop now and take the advice I was given. Be a writer instead of just blabbing 🙂

Actually the the header for tip #2 says “Start building your Amazon cart now.” Then in the details for tip #2, it says “Don’t miss out on the items you want! Add them to your Amazon Wish List now with Prime-eligible products you love. ”

Add the items to your WISH list, not your cart. Then on Prime Day, you have to keep an eye on your Amazon account. If/when an item in your wish list goes on sale, you can then add it to your cart and you should get the discounted price.

I don’t know if Target will match Amazon deals this year but in the past they have and have allowed multiple transactions. Be sure and check. Got my fingers crossed that they do.

Just to confirm- if I have an item in my cart at 8am and the sale goes live at 8:30am, once it goes live, the price will be adjusted in my cart after I hit refresh on the page?
I tried this last year multiple times and it never worked so I kept having to go back and find the deal, then I missed it because it sold out.
Any other tips to avoid this?
Also, the site crashed on me so much last year that the stress of missing a deal almost wasn’t even worth it.

    • Lil*5

Yep. I had the same experience.

I don’t do amazon at all now, unless I really need something. Quitting prime is so freeing.

  8. Sarah

I’ve got to know where Collin got the wreath that is in the background of the banner pic that brings you to this post 😊

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

You’ve got a great eye, Sarah! You can find that Magnolia wreath on our sister site over here. We even show you how to make one!

  9. Ashley

I’m STILL using the diapers y’all posted about last year when I was 9 months pregnant with my last baby- coupons were doubling- it literally makes my day every time I think about it- $3-$5 for a box diapers?! Yes please!

    • Jen

Me too! I was 6 weeks pregnant and my now, 3 month old, is set through size 5 and some training pants. LOVE IT.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Aww, that’s SO awesome!! Hoping another stellar deal pops up again this year!

    • Sarah

I am all about the diapers too!!!

  10. Alissa

Prime day was such a disappointment last year. I continuously got the error screen when trying to browse items. I tried different browsers and different search methods to no avail and nothing in my cart or wish list (over 100 items) was discounted. Hoping this year will be different…

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh bummer! I hope so too, Alissa! Keeping my fingers crossed it goes more smoothly!

  11. Laura

Last year their carts glitched and dropped any save later items. This year we are writing down the item numbers and bookmarking each items page as well.
