2. Stock up during Clear the Rack events.
Clear the Rack events happen several times a year and are one of the best times to score deep discounts on designer brands.
During the Clear the Rack event, you’ll get an additional 25% off already reduced red-tag clearance items at the register. That’s a total savings of 75% off or more! 😱
During the event, visit the clearance racks at the back of the store and shoe aisles first. While much of the racks showcase Nordstrom Rack merchandise, there may be designer brands mixed in too. Especially on the black “Designer Row” clearance racks!

You can still score great deals online during the Clear the Rack events! Nordstrom Rack restocks and updates their site at 8 AM PST so be sure to set your alarm for the best online website inventory! And don’t hesitate because everything tends to go fast!

3. Shop for items that came from the main Nordstrom store.
It’s important to know that not everything inside a Nordstrom Rack store is passed down from Nordstrom unsold items. Nordstrom Rack also carries brands specifically purchased for their store.
Generally, these items are not your biggest bargains, so check the price tags to know if you’re getting a designer deal.
If the original white paper price tag says “Nordstrom Rack” at the top (as pictured above), you’ll know it’s an exclusive item sold at The Rack.
Looking for a hot designer deal? Look for merchandise with a “Nordstrom” tag. Those are items sent straight from Nordstrom stores! (Psst…the tags covered with red clearance stickers are typically the biggest bargains!)
Don’t see a Nordstrom tag? 🤔 Sometimes, Nordstrom Rack will repurpose the designer tags when they get shipped to their store by placing one of their small white stickers on top of the tag.
It likely came from a Nordstrom store if you find a designer price tag with a Nordstrom Rack sticker on top. This can vary by brand but is generally true for more sought-after brands like Free People.
4. Hunt for those $0.01 deals.
These deals are rare, but scoring them makes it worth the souring. One penny items are old inventory and are supposed to be shipped to Nordstrom’s Last Chance clearance store in Phoenix, AZ. However, occasionally they get missed and are sold as final sale.
If you happen to find one, snag it and run to the register! 🏃🏻♀️
5. Watch for “Altered or Refinished” items.
See an item with a tag that says “Altered or Refinished” on it? That means it’s an altered or refurbished designer item from Nordstrom and will have a Nordstrom Rack price tag. If the item is in good condition and fits well, you can often get great buys on these tailored items!
Need something hemmed? As mentioned on their FAQ page, select Nordstrom Rack stores conveniently offer alterations and tailoring services. This goes for both in-store and online purchases and could save you a trip to the alterations store. Simply bring your item(s) and receipt or packing slip to a select store. Contact your local Nordstrom Rack store for more details.
6. Start at the back of the store and work your way up.
Plain and simple, some of the biggest discounted items are typically at the back of the store. So, if you’re looking for the biggest discounts on items, start at the back and work your way up.
