Woman holding DirecTV Remote Control and cash

This is a MUST-READ if you’re a DIRECTV customer!

Hi everyone! It’s Bryn, Collin’s sister and sidekick. For the last 2 years in a row, I made calls to DIRECTV and saved myself $50-$60 per month for an ENTIRE year! 😱 And the best part, each of these phone calls literally took me less than ten minutes!

Fast forward to today, and Collin has bugged me almost daily to pick up the phone and call DIRECTV once again to see if I can secure similarly awesome offers. Truth be told, I was putting off this phone call as I just kept thinking there was no way this company was going to give me another discount again. But I was wrong…

My 10-minute call today just saved me $240!

So a $240 savings is not actually quite as exciting as the discounts I was offered in year’s past, but I am still thrilled to be saving over $200 annually for a service that I would be using regardless. And I am confident that some of you will receive much more substantial discounts after you make the call!

If you’ve been considering downgrading or canceling your DIRECTV service or you just want to discuss options to reduce costs on your account, follow these simple steps:

  1. First, dial DIRECTV customer service at 1-800-531-5000.
  2. State “cancel service” when you get to the menu options.
  3. When asked, be sure to state that you’re not moving (unless, of course, you’re in the middle of a move!). Your call will then be routed directly to the customer retention/loyalty department.
  4. Share with the customer service representative that you want to reduce your monthly bill and are looking for any special offers that may be available for your account.
  5. Within a few minutes, the representative will let you know if your account qualifies for additional savings!

Directv Remote control on top of DVR and cash

I was offered a savings of $20 per month for the next 12 months! That’s a total savings of $240!

Have you tried this recently, either with DIRECTV or another provider?

If so, please let us know what you did and how it worked!

Just got off the phone with them. They lowered my bill $50 a month for a year and discounted my movie channels $10 for 6 months!

Man! I did exactly what all you Hippers said to do and it WORKED! Our usual monthly bill for Directv is around $210.00 and with one phone call I was able to reduce it to $98.00!!! I know, still probably too high but it’s more than 1/2 what it used to be and I have all of you to thank for it! Love Hip2Save! I’ll have to call every year but until we find something we love more, it’s totally worth it to me!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Yay! That’s amazing!! Thanks a ton for the kind words and for letting us know how much savings you were able to score! Congrats!

Called today and was able to get off $40 / month for next 12 months! It had been $50/ month in the past – but I’ll take the $40! Thanks for the phone #. I will save it for future reference. The normal customer service do not have access to the screens that customer loyalty department has so don’t bother with the normal customer service.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome! You’re so welcome! Great idea to save the number for next time! 🙌

That’s AWESOME! You’re very welcome, Crystal R! Thanks so much for the update on how much you were able to save!

For other cable or internet companies if on the prompt you select cancel my service and you get sent to the same type of department. They want your business so explain that everyone you know has switched and is saving more than half of what you pay and you feel dumb but are in love with there company. They will then make it worth your while. Also if you receive eBt or are considered low income which you would be surprised how high that level is , you can get internet for 5 to -10 dollars a month. Low income relief.con has specifics per the company’s that are in different states. Just click on your state and scroll down to see what you can get and how to get it. Esp for vets, military active, students, ect. She also shows how to use TRIM which does it all for you and you split the money they save you.

Thank you for the great info! I just got off the phone and also saved $60 per month for the next year!! Woo hoo!!

    • Chelsey (Hip Sidekick)

Woohoo!! So glad you could score some savings!

Had a discount from Directv loyalty department last year after I told them that Spectrum TV’s offer was less by $60 ($85 instead for $145), but this year, I have called twice and was told that there were no current promotions, but to keep trying. I thought that the agents responded on an individual basis to competitive offers, but now it seems the agents can only offer promos if they are associated with an account in their online system. Perhaps change of policy due to AT&T? Odd in that we have been customers for 8 years, excellent credit record, and I understand that Directv is losing many, many customers.

They didn’t give me a discount
    So I canceled Directv

Not sure what is going on.. We have been Directv customers for about 7 years and I have always played the “call and threaten to cancel” game to keep our bill down. I was always able to get a discount until this last January 2020 when I called because our bill was up to $163. They didn’t have ANY offers so I cancelled. I thought I would receive a phone call with a win back offer.. Nothing. I have received my final bill and called two separate times to see if any offers were available to me before I sent my equipment back. All they could offer was $10 off per month! I was told by a rep that rules have become a lot more strict since AT&T has taken over. I’m kinda bummed, as we are suckers for Sunday Ticket.

I’ve been using a very similar tactic for several years now, usually just after the current 12 month discounts drop off. Was almost always able to get at least a $60/mo, 1-year discount, one that’s always been off-contract; ie., no commitments, just a month to month. Last year’s $70 dollar discount recently came to an end. When ‘renegotiating’ for the next 12 month period, I was disappointed that the best offer for the same programming was $50/mo./yr and that’s it. Nuttin’ else. Well, between that disappointment and the fact that DTV’s constantly jacking up pricing in a global sense in terms of programming and fees, I was ready to and did say, adios. Soon thereafter, I attempted to renegotiate an acceptable 1year deal, one that would unfortunately have to be committed to, no more month to month. I could have lived with that but what turned totally sour was the number of times in the past 3 weeks I’d asked for and by received verbally exactly what I’d wanted from a DTV rep only to find out just before reactivating that what we (both DTV and I) agreed to was not was I was actually going to receive; things like NO bundling of services and NO 24 month agreements, both of which I stressed as being absolutes and ones they’d agreed to. Bottom line, plenty of shenanigans (deception) going on with DTV. Nothing new really but in the 20+ years I’ve been subscribing, it’s never been this twisted. There are plenty of reasons why subscribers are ‘cutting the cord’ with providers nowadays but in DTV’s case, at least in my opinion, it is the deceptive and bait-and-switch tactical BS that goes on. All said, just for fun, I’m going to try ‘reupping’ once (maybe twice) again and see what happens…

I have been a DirectTV customer for over 10 years and I called today to see if there were any loyalty discounts to lower my bill. I was only offered less service yet the cost was still $25 more per month than a new customer would pay!

02/17/2020, Just got off phone with James from direct tv. I got $30.00 off per month for the year and showtime for 4 months with automatic roll-off.

Been a customer for 12 years, just called and they offered me only $10 per month savings. My bill will be $117 a month. I am paying around $85 now! What the heck, the service went up that high! I am also an at&t phone customer.
