Use my pantry organization ideas to tidy up your home!

Learning how to organize your pantry is a no-brainer with these ideas! 🤩

Proper organization helps you to maximize your pantry space and allows you to see what you already have on hand.

Are you currently struggling to organize your pantry? I’ve been there before (see my post on my pantry makeover) and am here to lend a hand! I’m sharing some of my best pantry organization ideas. Plus, I’ve found some clever and useful pantry organizers to easily elevate your space!

Put these organizers to use with these pantry organization ideas:

1. Purge and declutter.

a plastic grocery sack with groceries on a counter

Before I start any organizing project, purging is always the first step (less stuff always equals less effort to organize). I, too, sometimes overbuy one item and never use it, or my kids open a bag of chips, and it’s been sitting around months later! Declutter and get rid of as many things as you can, from spoiled food to unused appliances. Consider donating unwanted, unopened non-perishable food that hasn’t expired to a food bank.

2. Creating different zones is one of the best pantry organizer ideas.

hand holding bamboo plastic bag storage bin

One of my favorite pantry organization ideas is to create zones. Creating zones will help you quickly identify items so that there’s a home for everything. You can create a zone for pantry staples like canned goods, cereal, baking supplies, grab-and-go snacks, etc. I also have a zone for foil, kitchen wraps, and baggies.

3. Use clear kitchen pantry organizers to gather like items.

clear acrylic pantry organizers that allow you to see the food

As you’re creating pantry zones, consider separating like items so you can easily identify them. I have mac and cheese separated together, and stacked about some drink mix packets. I also keep all my vinegar and oils in their own organizers.

tea bags organized in stand up plastic organizer on counter

Love drinking tea? Those bulky boxes of tea bags don’t deserve to take up the valuable retail space in your pantry. Instead, scoop up one of these double-sided compact tea organizers! It can fit 80 or 120 bags depending on which one you buy. It’s so compact, that it’ll fit seamlessly anywhere on your pantry shelf or in the smallest of cabinets!

4. Use storage baskets or bins to separate snacks and small items.

Stacking Bamboo Bin – Naturalas low as $7.49

For one of my pantry organization ideas, I created a teen zone with all my kids snacks and open chip bags. This way they can grab and go as needed, and everything is corralled into one spot. This is so much cleaner and easier than keeping snacks in original packaging floating around the pantry.

My stackable bamboo organizers are from The Container Store and they have held up well for years. I love how beautiful they look and how functional they are.

Hip Tip: Check out this small heated snack sealer that I’ve been using to prevent stale food in my pantry! It works great and helps me avoid food waste.

5. Use vertical space for canned goods, bottles, and cutting boards.

The Simple Houseware Stackable Can Rack

These handy racks are one of our very favorite pantry organization ideas! Using all of the vertical space in your pantry shelving makes perfect sense, especially for storing canned goods. I have had two canned food 3-tiered storage racks for years and love how easily I can grab what I need and also see what I have! If you have the room, these are so helpful. They really maximize your space!

My exact racks are no longer available, but Hip Sidekick Madison says her mom has the Sagler rack and it looks very professional in an everyday pantry and works great for soda in the fridge, too!

these water bottle racks are one of our favorite pantry organizer ideas

Utilizing vertical space is also helpful when it comes to organizing bottles. Scoop up a pack of these pantry organizers that hold up to three bottles per row if your family is constantly battling the cabinet full of reusable water bottles! Or they also make stackable singles if you only have a few bottles to store or larger water bottle holder. They’re perfect for all your water bottles and even wine too! 👏

cutting boards and baking pans standing up on vertical pantry organizer

You can also use vertical space for cutting boards and bakeware! Our team loves this handy rack. You’ll be able to store everything from baking sheets, cutting boards, pizza stones, and more with this sturdy pantry organizer!

Hip Tip: Our team’s favorite chemical-free cookware and bakeware comes with its own vertical storage organizer!

YouCopia StoraLid Lid Organizer – $13.59 (reg. $16.99)

Lastly, rather than stuffing all those unused party supplies into a random drawer or cabinet, easily store them with this genius organizer! It’s such a simple design, yet goes such a long way and everything will easily be at hand’s reach when you’re about to cut some cake. Better yet, these pantry organizers are also perfect for all your plastic container lids floating around. No more shuffling to find the perfect lid, because this system keeps everything just where you need it.

6. Take foods out of large, boxed packaging.

prepworks prokeeper pantry organizer food storage for rice and beans

Food packaging takes up so much valuable space! As an example, I keep a container for our dog’s treats instead of the big box they come in. I also store spaghetti in tall canisters and cereal in OXO air-tight cereal keepers.

anchor hocking glass jars, some of our favorite pantry organizers

My dry goods like rice and beans are stored in these brilliant PrepWorks canisters with scoops inside. I love these pantry organizers so much as the quality is fantastic and they are sleek looking.

Glass jars make great pantry organizers. This inexpensive yet large 2-gallon Anchor Hocking glass canister, pictured above, holds the large box of K-cups from Costco nicely! I am sure you can use it to organize lots of other items like flour and other supplies. Those are nice quality canisters for pantry organizing!

organizing labels on clear pantry organizers

Also, since I bake often, it is so helpful to have a spot for all my flour and sugars. These clear storage containers work perfectly for my space as I can immediately identify what’s in each one. I also made these farmhouse-style kitchen labels using my Cricut vinyl cutting machine, and love the look and functionality so much!

7. One of our top pantry organization ideas is to think outside the box and use magazine or file holders for your produce.

Think outside the box with these beautiful wire organizers! Using them is one of our favorite pantry organization ideas! Thanks to one Instagrammer, we’re realizing just how easy it is to make room for so much more food and it’s truly perfect if you tend to buy smaller quantities of perishables, too! We even saw something similar from The Pioneer Woman, so we don’t think you’ll need much more convincing to grab a few of these baskets. 😏

By using some thinner and taller containers like a magazine or file holder, you’ll be able to maximize your food storage tenfold. Plus, there’s no denying it looks so sleek and gorgeous! Bravo, HomeSort! 👏

8. One of our really effective pantry organization ideas is to make use of your walls and the space behind your pantry door.

white plastic bag holder on wall which is one of our best pantry organization ideas

Speaking of getting rid of the packaging, we have a solution for storing leftover plastic bags. Hide them behind the pantry door! Plastic bags are handy to have around whether you use them as bathroom trash bags or to stash stuff before running out the door. By adding an organizer to the back of a cabinet or on the wall, you’ll have a clean and stylish place to store them when they’re not being used. Best of all, the organizer we love is slim enough for even the smallest pantries.

These easy-to-hang hooks even go far beyond your pantry! From gardening tools in the garage and cleaning supplies in your kitchen, now you’ll be able to easily hang all your favorite mops and brooms too.

While you’ve probably seen traditional mop holders, these hooks are much more appealing since you don’t need to drill holes and you’ll be able to customize the height and width unique to your own storage needs!

While we’re on the subject of easy-to-hang pantry organization ideas, consider scooping up a few of these self-adhesive bins! You’ll get to use up some of your unused pantry wall space and stash all your seasoning packets and smaller odds and ends right in one convenient place.

Just keep in mind, if you’re looking to hang heavier items, reviewers recommend grabbing some stronger Command strips.

I am really digging the water bottle organizers. I get ALOT of coffee cups and this will really help.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      I’m loving those too! 🙌

    • barbara

I have one of these and love it

  2. Amy

Love the water bottle holder! For my spice cupboard I bought this shelf organizer thing years ago that sort of looks like steps and it’s been the best thing. You can see the stuff in the back (top step) and middle with just a glance and it was super cheap. I like using those McCormick grinders so using a typical spice rack isn’t really ideal.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Awesome. Glad that option has been helpful in organizing your spices! Thanks for sharing with us!

    • Patricia Goff

Yup. I got one at a flea market somewhere. It is a homemade wooden one that is painted a pretty blue. Absolutely love it.

  3. Lisa

Take a look at dollar tree, there’s lots of bins and trays, if you don’t mind fun colors hidden in your cabinets.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for the helpful suggestion, Lisa! I do have some of the Dollar Tree bins in my kitchen for organization. 🙌

    • Cherrill

I purchased some for meal planning. It’s so easy to grab the container and have it all right there ready to go with the exception of meats or dairy that must be refrigerated.

  4. Angela

I like the magazine racks for produce but have to keep onions away from fruit and potatoes bc it makes them spoil faster

  5. Chrissy Goff

Why would anybody have that many water bottles? I am lucky if we have two bottles in the whole house. LOL
My brothers are going to try to make me a behind the door pantry storage. We have so much wood in the shop they think they can make it from scrap wood and then paint it with leftover paint. I can’t wait to see how it works. Thank you.

    • Lori

Let us know how it turns out. Would love to see pics when finished.

      • Chrissy Goff

Me too. Still waiting for them to finish it. LOL

    • Katie

I’m guessing a lot of kids in a lot of sports because that’s a lot of bottles!

    • Lo

I have a insulated bottle obsession lol. Yes overkill but I have a ton. We have a shop also and my fil does scrap projects. Hope it turns out great!

  6. Patricia Goff

I have one of those old metal fridge containers from the 40’s or 30’s with a lid. I put the container on the lid and put all my gravy mixes etc in under the toaster oven (under the cabinet). I also have an old wooden seed packet box that I keep some of my packet mixes in too like beef stew mix etc. Love them. I have an old ice bucket that holds coffee filters in them. Love it.

    • Irene (Hip Sidekick)

That sounds like a great plan, Patricia!

      • Patricia Goff

I love vintage but I try really hard to find a use for it. I don’t want to be a hoarder. LOL

  7. Jen S

Marie Kondo would not be happy with the two cabinet-fulls of water bottles. Extremely excessive 😉

  8. Crafty Bargainista

As I posted the other day, I got something very similar to spice racks posted, but what I got was actually cheaper. Vertical Spice has 3-rack combo for $93.35, where the one listed above is $67.99 per rack. It is seriously well made and has amazing reviews on Amazon (just search for “vertical spice”).

  9. skimperscamp

Another idea for organizing your water bottles is to use a pretty wine bottle rack. I have been using my wine rack for the larger water bottles.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

That’s so true! I love using wine bottle racks to store items!

    • KellZoll

Great idea! We have those modular wooden wine racks out in the garage gathering dust.

  10. tt

I love the idea for the water bottle holders…but I’d need it to fit my starbucks cup collection! If anyone has ideas that work for the venti size in a small kitchen…PLEASE let me know 🙂

    • Jen

I use an inexpensive over-the-door shoe rack for all of our bottles (family of 5 here). I wish I could post a picture to show you. It has freed up a TON of cabinet space, and we can see at a glance which bottles are clean. It fits various sizes and I’m sure it would work for your venti Starbucks cups. We even have hydroflasks in there!

  11. Nancy

I love wine racks for rolled up guest towels as well as bottles. I also bought a metal cd holder and painted it and use it to store extra rolls of toilet paper in my bath room…looks really cute

    • Lisha

If it’s not a bother, would you share pics. I am on an organization odyssey, one room at a time. Keeping the bathroom inviting for guests is on the journey. Thanks.

  12. Jarrod

For nearly the same price, I much, much prefer my Shelf Reliance FIFO (First In First Out) can organizers. They are durable and rotate the cans for you.

  13. pnwremod

Look up Home-man Laundry room organizer on Amazon. It is a four-tiered shelf on wheels that works perfectly for canning jars. Able to fit quart and even half gallon jars. I think I figured I can fit 24 quart jars on it. It is flimsy, but sits in a narrow spot so has support on each side so that is not a problem. Spendy, but totally worth the $$.

  14. Patricia Goff

Wow. I think we only got one water bottle. LOL We just use tupperware and our coffee cups. They fit in our holders. I think they are a waste and more plastic for the land fill.

  15. Jen O

I use an over the door pocket shoe holder inside my panty and I use the pockets to hold my gravy packets, taco seasoning packets, etc. If it’s a packet, it’s in there. So much easier to deal with and I can find things in a flash. No more digging thru my tiny pantry to find things. I don’t have wall space for the clear boxes to hang on the wall. My pantry is a converted coat closet. So it’s a good option for those of us with no space.

    • Jen O

That should say pantry, not panty LOL. That would be uncomfortable! Hahaha

      • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

LOL! It sure would be! Thanks for the update and the fun comment. It sure gave me a giggle! 🤗😂

I have the over the door shoe holder on my pantry door too and I totally agree! It sure is helpful! 🙌

  16. Denise

I actually just ordered the drawer spice rack holder from Amazon but not with the bottles, different brand.. (Lynk Professional® Spice Drawer Organizer – Heavy Gauge Steel 4 Tier Spice Rack – Drawer Insert Tray for Spice Jars, Herbs and Seasoning – Kitchen Cabinet Drawer Storage – Silver Metallic, Large $24.99) I honestly was too lazy to buy one with bottles and have to transfer spices into new bottles, I just wanted my different size store bottles to fit – and they did. But – I happened to walk into DD’s discount over the weekend, and was able to buy two of them in rubber which equaled the same size and spent a total f $8 – so I sent the one back on Amazon just because of the price difference. Otherwise if you need to organize your spices in a drawer, I would highly recommend them.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for sharing your spice rack holder finds, Denise! Glad you could score such a great deal to organize yours! 🤗🎉🙌

  17. Chrissy Goff

I have some old crates that I keep in my cabinets that I use to hold all my pan lids. Love it. I keep my tupperware lids in an old seed box too. I love vintage containers and I try to use them whenever possible. I have an old stoneware crock (huge) that I use as a trash can in the bathroom (kroger bags fit it perfect) and an old coal bucket that I use for trash in another one (target bags fit perfect). Quirky but they work. I have an old crock butter churn that I use to keep extra toilet paper in in the guest bathroom. I don’t use laundry pods very often but I do send off for free samples but I keep them in a big old glass jar in the laundry room.

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for taking a moment to share how you upcycle items to make useful storage in your home, Chrissy! I love repurposing vintage containers too! 🤗💖

  18. Justina Inez

I’m loving the cord keepers for the mixer, just odd though, the blue link says 2pk, but then the amazon title says 4 pk, but all the review pics are of singles or one of a pair, do you happen to know if the amazon page is correct, the preview does show 4, but reviews only 1 or once a pair, thanks!

    • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks for bringing this to our attention, Justina. ❤️ It looks like the 2-pack option that was previously linked in our post is no longer available; however, the 4-pack that the link goes to now is the same price! 🙌 I’ve updated the wording in the post on this too. It seems that the review images may be sharing one to show what they’re using each cord keeper on, or there may have been an option previously for just purchasing one. If you happen to order and only receive one, instead of the 4 mentioned in the title and description, you might reach out to Amazon for further guidance. Hope this is helpful!

      • Justina Inez

        Thanks Jessica!

        • Jessica (Hip Sidekick)

You’re very welcome! 💕 Happy Friday!

  19. Sue

I use a magazine rack to hold my cutting boards, and a file folder rack to store my frying pans handles up to alleviate extra back pain from bending to the lower cabinet. The other thing I came up with was to use an under the cabinet shelf to hold various things like plastic wrap, foil, various bags, etc, but I use it in my pantry. I re-use the containers from Target’s bulk size nuts for my dishwasher pods and miscellaneous snacks. Something I was told by multiple people was how they liked I put my under the kitchen sink cleaners and supplies in a tote that can be slip out to clean or work on the pipes, etc. I do what I can on a budget and if you want to pretty things up you can always add wrapping paper, fabric, or even shelf paper to items to make them more matchy – matchy if that is important to you.

    • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks a bunch for sharing how you organize the items in your pantry, Sue! Love these ideas! 🥰

    • Happy Aunt

I have done the totes concept for under the sink storage and it really makes a difference. Cheap dishpans work well for this too.

  20. Happy Aunt

My top cabinet shelf is just barely reachable. I now use this space for my metal cups and water bottles. I purchased the plastic magazine/file holders from Dollar Tree and have them lined up. Each one holds 3 each and I can slide them in and out as needed. Freed up space on lower shelves things and the solution was cheaper than other alternatives.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

How cool! Thanks for the heads up on how you’ve been able to organize your cups and bottles!❤️🙌

  21. Terry

The teabag holder link (YouCopia TeaStand Tea Bag Organizer 120-Count – $9.99 (reg. $24.99)) pulls up an organizer that holds only 80 bags and is $19.99….just fyi.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks, Terry! Those details have been updated. 🥰

    • MaineMom

I’m sorry I think it’s a little excessive especially for being on a money saving website (that I love, don’t get me wrong). It’s just that today there’s so much social media pressure on these “picture perfect pantries”etc, that come at a hefty price. I don’t think it’s realistic for the average person and some is wasteful. Use what you have, there so many frugal tips out there. Yes it’s nice to have one or 2 of these products but to have 2 entire cupboards all for water bottles is extreme in my view and not for the average budget consious person. I do understand everyone’s pantry is they’re own and if that gives you joy to spend lots of money on these items then that’s wonderful. I feel like there is pressure today to have these products and I’m kinda over seeing them 😂. What I would like to see from Hip2Save instead of this post and on your other recent post about “organization” (with the huge list of all the stuff to purchase) is how to organize your home creatively, frugal and on a budget. They’re are so many smart, thrifty and pretty ways to organize that don’t cost a small fortune. Hope you consider it.

      • Trish (Hip Sidekick)

We sure appreciate you sharing your honest feedback with us MaineMom! Thank you for the request for other organizational posts! I’ve passed this along to the team! 🤗💖

  22. Terry

And that’s why Americans have a much larger carbon footprint than other nations…. it’s usually described as about 11 times that of most countries. I buy most of my clothes at 2nd hand stores but I recently went through my Amazon order list to see hoe much I spent on things I never used & it negates any cost savings I’ve made. We’re taught to be buying machines from a very young age 🫤
