Curious about which Hulu TV shows are worth watching?

Hulu allows you to stream thousands of shows and movies including Hulu Originals, hit movies, kids shows, and so much more! If you’re looking for a quick suggestion, our team recommends The Handmaid’s Tale, 11.22.63, Castle Rock, Last Man on Earth, and The Good Place!

So I secretly enjoy watching The Handmaid’s Tale when my kiddos are in bed – sound asleep. Do not, I repeat, DO NOT watch this show with kids around. It’s creepy, disturbing, hair-raising, unpleasant, and did I mention creepy? It’s often hard to watch, but then at the same time – hard to not watch.

The main character, Elisabeth Moss, is an incredible actress who shows such raw emotion and makes the show binge-worthy. There’s something to be said about a show that you talk about long after the show is over. – Collin

Just my opinion; I think it is worth it to spend a little extra to get the add-free option. There can be a lot of ads and it is so repetitive, or at least that was my experience when I tried the add version for a month.

    • blessedmommyx4

Saaaaame! I would get SO irritated with the commercials being repetitive and annoying! Lol

    • Rebecca

Same! I wouldn’t pay $1 for the version with ads/commercials.

    • rocme2

I got a free preview for 30 days and the amount of ads was incredible! Worst part is I had to watch at least two commercials before the start of a show, then there’d be another commercial or two right after watching the opening credits/theme song 🤦‍♀️

    • Linda

Can you tell me more about the ads. Are they throughout the whole show? Is it essentially like watching a show on tv with multiple commercial breaks during each episode?

      • shop4mybabies

yes like normal tv lots of ads

      • Natalie

Honestly, they are not that bad. It isn’t nearly as much as watching actual tv. The ad breaks are probably around 90 seconds long and you have a countdown until they are over. They are so repetitive and short that they don’t even bother me.

      • Heather V.

The last time I had a Hulu trial, the sheer number of ads was driving me INSANE. It seemed like they happened about every 3 minutes, and I’m not exaggerating here.

  2. Sandy:)

Thanks for this post! I was hoping that they’d run this promo again this year. Great deal!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re so welcome! Glad you could grab the deal!

    • Ann

Are you able to do it again if you did it last year?

      • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

The fine print says either new subscribers or someone who hasn’t had the service for at least 3 months.

        • L

I had a free 30 day trial that just ended yesterday. I was planning to keep paying the $5.99. This is a much better deal but I guess I am no longer considered a new subscriber as of yesterday??

          • Jess

You can use a different email.

      • Sandy:)

Last time, I was able to switch email accounts and get the deal again. Fingers crossed that it works again!

      • P.B.

You need to use a different email address and payment method to get the deal again.

  3. Garfee

Tried this morning….but was unable to. I previously had an account cancelled December, 2019.

My roommate has an account, but since we have the same address and internet IP address they claim the 2 accounts are “related”.

Guess I’ll stay with Prime and Netflix

    • jai

Thank you Garfee. I would have had the same issue. You just saved me time. And thank you H2S for your awesome posts!

    • dylanfan

I signed up under a different email address that I have. It let me do it no problem about being the same address or anything.

    • Angela Handrick

I just got another free email address and opened it with that.

    • Tom

When I had a roommate in an apartment, we used apt.312a and 312b to differentiate. It worked because of different names and apt.#

  4. Michele

Do they offer a deal for Hulu LIVE?

  5. chesca

I got the $1.99 deal last yr and it expired Nov. 28th so I went into my acct last week to cancel so it wouldn’t charge me $5.99. they didn’t want to lose me so they offered me the next year for $1.99 as well and have me dec free. It’s worth a shot to check it out if anyone was planning to keep it and just suck it up and pay $6. Check your acct they may give you the same offer. Happy Thanksgiving 😁

    • HBalke

I just tried it and they offered me 1 month free plus $1.99/mo. after that. Thanks so much for the idea.

      • chesca

        Yay !! That’s awesome 👍

      • ang

they said this is a glitch and it will still charge u 5.99 going forward. u can see in your account

    • Tabitha

I saw that in my account but it’s showing I’ll get charged 5.99 starting 12/30 so I would double check.

      • Ann

Same. I took the offer but it still shows as $5.99 for next month. Anyone else?

        • JILL

          Same for me

      • HBalke

Thanks for the heads up. I just checked and it shows it will be 6.78 with taxes starting 12/29.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

That’s great to hear! Thanks for sharing your experience, Chesca! Happy Thanksgiving!

    • LS

Double check that. I accepted the offer and it said that it still said the $1.99 expired November 28, 2020.

    • Kelley

Did you have to chat with someone or did they offer it when you hit the cancel button? Thanks!

      • chesca

It offered it when I hit the button. I did it all online thru my acct. Before I had to verify (for the 80th time 🙄😂) that I wanted to continue thru to cancel, it popped up and offered it to me.

    • June

I cancelled last week and I was offered one free month. I just went on and cancelled with out taking it. May sign up another family member under this offer.

  6. bholmes

I just got it. I just signed up with a different email and it worked!

  7. Je

Well this stinks, i just sighned up 11/15/2020.

    • Polly

Go through the cancellation process and at the end they should offer you the 1.99 price

      • Jen

It did not and i called and they couldnt do it. I just cancelled it, i liked hulu but i refuse to stay when companies do this.

        • animity

I do the same! You aren’t missing much from Hulu anyway.

        • Polly

Too bad, not sure why it’s letting some people and not others

    • June

You could also just cancel and resubscribe through this offer. You would pay for your month and loose a couple weeks but it would be cheaper with this offer for a whole year.

      • Jen

I ttied that, tried 3 different emails and different payments and it says im not eligable.

  8. Sue

We recently cancelled our HULU they just don’t offer a lot of good shows and movies like they used too.

  9. Pj

Any deals on Disney + ? Mine free trial expired with Verizon. Thank you

    • RMS

PJ – I just switched my Verizon plan after my Disney + expired. We have 4 lines. I switched 1 of them to the Get More Unlimited ($10 more per month) and got to keep the free Apple Music we all use AND added the free Disney+, Hulu, and ESPN+. Switching 1 allows ALL of us to access these so well worth the $10 extra a month.

      • Pj

        👍 Thank you.

  10. kaylatrumble

Just a heads up. I tried getting this deal and it wouldn’t let me. I called and they couldn’t do anything about it unfortunately. I haven’t had Hulu since 2017. Oh well…

    • Jennifer Lisa

Use a different credit card. 🙂

    • Talie9

We couldn’t get it to work either, haven’t had Hulu in a couple years. Used different email and card. Not eligible. I even tried to sign up my mother in a different state , never had Hulu, didn’t work.

  11. Pumpkinjr99

    Worked. Thank you!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      You’re so welcome!

  12. Jennie

Thank you for the tip on cancelling and then getting offered a free month and then 1.99 month until Jan 2021. !!!

    • Sussan

Jan 2021 is only a few months away.. so will they charge you full price after that?

      • Jennie

Oops sorry I had meant to say Jan 2022. Butttt … I noticed they charged 5.99 so I chatted with customer service and they said it was a glitch and they are NOT honoring the 1.99 a month from the pop offer when you go to cancel. I just canceled the whole thing.

  13. Nicole221

Just signed up 2 days ago and they wouldn’t do anything, which stinks. Called and they Said I had to be canceled 90 days before they would offer anything else. Sad.

    • Jen

Me too i signed up last week and called and nope so i cancelled, i will not support bad customer service.

    • Staci

I havent been impressed with Hulu’s customer service. My daughter accidentally pushed something to do Hulu live and we immediately canceled and never watched anything but that voided our $1.99 deal. I like it to keep up with tv shows I cant see during the week.

      • Mel

Staci That is exactly what happened to us too. I complained that it should not be that easy for my kids to change my subscription and they said they couldnt gove me the same deal that I was on before. So annoying

      • Sharon

This happened to me 2 different years. They have terrible customer service! They would give me back the .99 a month for the rest of my 9 months. Last year I accidentally hit a button. Same thing, wouldn’t give me the rest of the year, for $1.99 a month.

  14. Erin

I had an account so I had to use the hubby’s email and a different payment, but I was able to get it. Thank you!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      Woohoo! You’re welcome, Erin!

  15. ang

that cancellation deal isn’t valid. it said i got it but it isn’t valid, bills show 5.99 and hulu confirmed this

    • dsquared95

I agree. You do not get $1.99 with the cancellation promotion. You only get one month free and then the rate is $5.99. I confirmed it with customer service after I accepted the offer and it said $5.99 will be charged in 2021. It is better to do the Black Friday deal. I am going to cancel it.

  16. Jill

I just signed up I don’t care about the ads lol 😂

    • Dkp91576

I have been doing the $1.99 BF deal rotating email addresses; I have been watching a lot of movies and rarely notice the ads. There are maybe a couple during prime time shows.

  17. Erin

Annoying I just got Hulu live basically for college football season. They already emailed me saying December the price goes up $10. I guess this is where that money is going. After the championship I will go to not live no ad option.

    • Wonderjules

Same here. I love the Live tv option but it’s already so expensive and now going up. I also pay extra for ad free but apparently there’s no such thing. I’m looking for a new streaming service that has live tv and won’t break the bank.

  18. an

I tried to do with new email and CC. It said I would get 1.99 and then showed 5.99 again. So annoying.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Hmm, maybe check again in a different browser. I’m still finding the deal to be valid now as I click through. Hope that helps!

  19. ay

i signed up with new email and credit card. it showed 1.99 black friday deal, but when i hit submit it went back to 5.99. so frustarting.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Oh darn! I do still find the offer available. Hope this helps!

    • sarah

Same.I cancelled and contacted the online support, they are going to refund that 5.99$.

  20. Blessed

I got this deal last year. Just signed up again in my husband name.

  21. Lisa S

Thank you so much!!! Happy Thanksgiving! 🦃

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

You’re welcome, Lisa S! Happy Thanksgiving!

  22. Anne

Thanks for posting this. I first saw this offer here last year. I had wondered if/when this would be offered again. I definitely plan to sign up. I prefer ad free but usually only take it for a few months. At $1.99/mo I will keep Hulu for the year. Happy Thanksgiving.

  23. Lyssa

I just snagged this great deal and we are choosing our movie now. Thanks guys!!

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

      You’re so welcome! Enjoy!

  24. CJ

Thanks for the reminder to cancel mine from last year. I’ve been able to alternate between two email addresses to keep this lower rate.

    • CJ

The commercials don’t bother me for the low price.

  25. Sue

Last year my husband got the $1.99 promo using his email & credit card. This year I was able to get the $1.99 promo using a different email and my credit card.

  26. Heather

Thank you for posting! My mom is on a tight budget and this is a great gift to give her something more than antenna tv to watch!!

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

You are welcome! I’m glad to hear this is helpful for her, Heather!

  27. Serranojs

This is my 3rd year doing this deal… I’m on my third email.. it’s definitely not taking any old emails.. the first yr it was 99 cents a month and these last 2 yrs it’s been 1.99 it’s well worth it…

    • Mika

Did you have to use a new credit card?

      • Serranojs

        Same credit card

  28. shubam

    thank you

  29. TracyS

For those complaining about ads. I use the extension uBlock on my laptop when I watch on Hulu and it skips the ads.

  30. Miss

Thanks! My free Hulu expired when sprint merged with t-mobile!

  31. Wendi

    Good score..Thanks 😊

  32. Hannah

Has anyone with an existing account (but NOT an active subscription) been able to claim this deal under their existing email??

    • Stephanie

I got an email offering me the deal with an old account, but when I click thru it shows one free month and $5.99 a month. So, no.

    • Sandy:)

I had the same experience as Stephanie. It also wouldn’t let me use the same credit cards. I used a new email and PayPal and it worked.

    • Nmd323

I did! I just went to the link from my email and I logged in and it gave me the $1.99 price!

    • Pat

I also had the same experience as Stephanie. I haven’t had an active account for over a year.

  33. Michelle W

Has Disney + come out with a deal yet? Last year they had the Black Friday deal for one year…hoping for something like that again.

    • Sandy:)

I’ve been hoping and watching for the same Disney Plus deal.

    • CJ

      Been wondering this too!

  34. Queenie

This doesn’t work for me tried different emails and ways bummer. Enjoy to those it does 🙁

    • Starlladawn

I wonder why? It says I’m ineligible??

  35. Starlladawn

I tried to sign up for this and it says I am ineligible for this deal???

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

DARN! Are you a new subscriber?

      • Starlladawn

        Yes, it doesn’t make sense

  36. Sylvia

    Got it Appreciate!

  37. cheetara

I already had HuLu so I canceled my old subscription then created a new account using a different email and credit card and it worked perfectly.

  38. Jennifer

Can u use this for Hulu live for an upgrade?

  39. sfc_abby

There is a good deal at Walgreens through tomorrow. We took advantage of this deal. You can buy 2 – $25 gift cards for Hulu and receive a free $10 Walgreens gift card. You can use the card for your payment. You can gift someone the other gift card..an idea.

    • Jennifer (Hip Sidekick)

      Thank you!

    • Cassandra White

I am not sure if you can use a gift card for this promotion,
“Offer valid for new and eligible returning subscribers (who have not been Hulu subscribers in the past 3 months) only. Not combinable with any free trial of the Hulu (ad-supported) plan or any other promotional offers or pricing (including the Disney bundle); not redeemable via gift card. Any plan switch after redemption of this offer will result in forfeiture of the discount pricing.”

  40. mumm

For crying out loud. If you don’t like the commercials go put a load in or move it to the dryer, dance with your kids, play with your pooch, do some dishes, do sit ups. Whatever floats your boat. Or suck it up and pay the extra. Thanks to the Hip to save gang for another great deal.

  41. Grace

Just signed up. No problems it was very easy. Prefer no ads, but for 1.99 its a great deal. Thanks for posting.

  42. IB

They are raising the price of Hulu Live by $10 in December.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks, IB! We’ll look into that!

  43. Michelle W

First year I signed up for 99 cents. Second year my husband signed up for 1.99. Now it let me sign up again for the $1.99 😊

  44. Ms. B

Is this post edited? I went back to reread it and the post makes no mention of the Black Friday 1.99/month price. And now the webpage title is different too right? In the past, I think this website updated posts by leaving the original text + adding an edit note and not just outright replacing the original text. The replacement of it made it a bit confusing; plus now the comments don’t make as much sense without the context of the original post’s content.

Love this website and really appreciate all you guys do. I realized as I was typing this all out that you guys probably just deleted the post’s old contents (since it was expired) to replace it with the current deal and keep confusion to a minimum. Hope my feedback doesn’t sound nitpicky or too dumb haha
