Michaels is listed in both lists.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks, Melissa! It appears they WILL be open. The post has been updated!

    • CM

      Totally agree!

    • Marie

I agree Jodi! I worked retail for years, and my daughter now works retail putting herself through college. I used to love Black Friday shopping, but I feel bad for anyone that misses or has to rush through the holiday to go to work, so I no longer shop Thanksgiving. Last year was so difficult trying to accommodate schedules for my daughter and her boyfriend who both had to work. 🙁

      • dblD amber

Agree, my mother in law is HR at Walmart and she is required to work Thanksgiving day, wasnt always the case until the past few years. It was so difficult to get together last year. This years it will be the same, her having to work, so instead we are taking the mids to wilderness resort in Wisconsin dells.

  2. Sara

Aldi will be closed on Thanksgiving.

    • Amber (Hip Sidekick)

Thanks so much for the heads up, Sara! That has been added!

  3. Jodi P

I feel bad for the employees. I worked retail for years. I do myself and everyone else a favor by not shopping at all thanksgiving weekend. There will be more sales before christmas.

    • Jennifer

When I worked retail people fought for the actually Thanksgiving day hours for the holiday pay.

  4. Cheri

Can you do a list of restaurants/fast food?

  5. Happy Aunt

I noticed Shopko is listed as being open on Thanksgiving….oh how I wish it were true!! They closed all of their stores this spring and I miss them terribly!

  6. Emily

I don’t mind stores being open on thanksgiving if it’s later in the evening after Thanksgiving activities start to wrap up.
I am not leaving Turkey on the Table at noon to go shopping, though. 🙂

    • Beth

The problem with opening at all on Thanksgiving- even if it were say, something like 6:00pm- is that it still requires employees to come in to set the store up hours in advance. The merchandise has to be set out, cash drawers have to be prepped- there is tons of work that goes into a store opening. It’s just not as simple as unlocking a door. It’s awful that stores are doing this. BRAVO! to the ones that are closed. There will be plenty of special deals to be had on other days. Let’s leave Thanksgiving alone.

  7. Diana

Gander Mountain went bankrupt in 2018. If you are referring to Gander Outdoors….they are closed on Thanksgiving.

  8. Tawana

I will be shopping online. Do not go out to the stores on Thanksgiving or Friday.

  9. Cassie

I love that grocery stores stay open for a few hours on Thanksgiving. I always forget something, LOL, and my husband (with a smile on his face but an eyeroll out the door) is always the helper to run and get the random ingredient that didn’t make it onto my 10 lists. 😛

I don’t think stores being open on Thanksgiving is a bad thing re: retail employees. I grew up in a medical household and my mom, dad, aunt, or sister always worked holidays at the hospital. You know applying for the job at a large retailer that work on Thanksgiving would be a possibility. Just my point of view!

    • Beth

But…..if people wouldn’t shop on Thanksgiving, the stores wouldn’t need the employees. It’s only because of consumer demand that the stores are open. They don’t want to miss making a sale.

  10. Becky Smithwick

Its a shame people who work retail have to work on Thanksgiving; it is supposed to be a family holiday. Greed is what it is all about. Hospitals, police/fire departments etc are necessary to be open but retail is nothing but greed!

  11. Jw206

My store is open and I’m glad. The amount of extra payroll hours we get is based off of sales. So please, come shop! Just be nice 😉

  12. Amazon

Amazon warehouses are also open on Thanksgiving. You may be able to shop in a physical store but everyone has to work. The only full day they’re closed is on Christmas Day, but it’s up to Management what hours they want everyone to work.

  13. Sharon

DSW was open last year on Thanksgiving and will probably be open again this year
