Kids + Boxes = 😍

Hip2Save reader, Andrea, made a large purchase, but little did she know that her daughter would become so entranced with the box it came in!

We recently bought a freezer, and my daughter wanted to play in the empty freezer box. My husband decided to take on the project of turning the empty freezer box into a playhouse. Two weeks later, the playhouse project was completed and decorated with a few items from the Dollar Tree.

My daughter really likes her playhouse and so do her friends. At her birthday party, six children were inside it and were comfortably playing. It’s been several months now and lots of usage, and it’s still in excellent condition!

How cool is that?

This is too funny! My family was talking about this exact thing during Christmas. We were talking about all the video games and high tech toys that the kids received and was wondering how we had so much fun with simpler things back in the day. The conversation ventured over to all of our houses and forts we created with boxes and how we had such imaginations back then. I had a house similar to this and I would take naps in it lol. Wow, thanks for the memories!

    • Andrea

You’re so welcome Brooke. My daughter and her friends like when hubby and I pretend to be the “Big bad wolf” and them the “Little pigs” and try to get them in the house, they have so much fun, and no technology needed.

    • Andrea

Love this! My son was the same way. He wanted any box he could fit in. He could use boxes like the vacuum box and cut a hole in it and put wings on it and make into an airplane, etc. It was hilarious….and then we couldn’t throw it away because he made it into a toy box…ha ha. Kids are simple…..so are the pets. My dog liked the empty Coke 12 pack boxes and a plastic bottle stuffed in a sock…..and to think we spend so much $$ on things and the kids and pets don’t care! Very cute…..and very fancy compared to our boxes!

    • Andrea

Thank you Me, I totally agreed kids are so simple, and pets too, my cat is the same way with boxes, he finds an empty box and he’ll curl up in it and be quite comfortable. It remind me of an episode of Daniel Tiger, when they were debating about the a box.

    🤔Will a freezer box house fit a 5’3” person?
    Asking for a friend….. 😂

    • Andrea

Hello Dianna, it sure will, just need to be a freezer over 17 cu . ft.

Funny. My DIL got the Barbie Dream House for our granddaughter this Christmas. Once it was assembled our 31 year old DIL tried to fit HERSELF into the box it came in. She is petite so it almost fit. Some things don’t change, even when you’re a “grownup” 😉

  18. Joyce

We covered our empty box with aluminum foil and added a rocket looking tip for our toddler who is now a 24 year old private equity guy…so I guess that worked out 🙂

  19. HBee

Love this! She will always remember this fun “toy” Daddy made!

We got a large keyboard mailed to us from Grandma for Christmas this year. As we opened it, both my girls exclaimed, “Oh THAT’S a good box!” and proceeded to look it over and list off all it’s good features. When we confirmed to them that yes they could keep the box, they immediately went through all the things they could use it for (final decision was a Polar Express train car). I guess the keyboard was fine too. 🙂
