This Reader Made a Dog Bed Using Household Items
Have a furry friend?
Animals are some of the sweetest friends we know, but their essentials can get expensive. This week’s Happy Friday reader Catherine came up with a clever yet simple hack for making a DIY dog bed (which can also work for cats)!
This one is for all the animal lovers out there! Make DIY pets beds out of old (or new) items. I recently changed out all our bedroom pillows and was wondering if there was anything I could do with them. Then I thought, why not make a dog bed?! I had an old blanket and decided to try it out.
It turned out great! All you need is a few pillows, an old blanket, and a pair of scissors. Just lay the blanket out flat put your pillows on it, fold the blanket over them, and take your scissors and cut strips (just like you would for a rag blanket) tie them and you’re done. I think these dog beds would be great to donate to shelters and rescue groups!
Catherine, this is so clever and awesome! Think about all the animal shelters that need more essentials and would love to have these pet beds. I also love how you can switch up the fabrics/blankets with just about anything. Joann often has sales on fabrics, so that’s a great place to look if you don’t have a spare blanket!

This is a great idea. One of my dogs used to ruin dog beds by “digging” in them to make a hole. She liked her dog beds lumpy. We finally stuffed the dog bed cover with our old t-shirts and she stopped tearing it up.
So happy you enjoyed this post, Dee! Thanks for sharing your tip! 💕
Such a great idea! Thank you for sharing.
Brilliant, I was just trying to figure out an inexpensive alternative. Going to give it a try.
I did this to but used an old mattress topper…better than throwing it directly in the trash.
